    I’ve been reading detail forums for better part of 10 years and this is the first time I’ve heard a fact based explanation of why you still need to condition coated leather. The discussion of increased permeability over time was fascinating. The idea of treating leather differently year 1-3 vs 3+ makes so much sense I’m mad I didn’t think of it.

    This is timely, as I have two cars at about 3 years of age with leather interiors that needs a little attention. One has a drivers seat that is getting a bit too shiny for my taste. Looking forward to the next videos on this!
    PS: What would they recommend for protection against methane gas (with hydrogen sulfide gas)?

    I've used this product on my BMW with leather and it worked very well and left a nice matte finish. Matt - I saw your video on Leatherique and now the videos on the Colourlock products. I have cream colored leather in my 1997 car that need some help (feels dried out). Which product would you choose?

  • @eurospec905
    @eurospec905 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man this content is invaluable to the community - thanks for a great informative video. From the looks of it ...
    -Swissvax leather cleaner = colourlock mild leather cleaner
    -Swissvax leather cleaner forte = colourlock strong leather cleaner
    -Leather cleaning brush looks identical from both companies
    I’m unsure if Swissvax leather glaze = colourlock leather shield or colourlock leather protector and where Swissvax leather milk comes into play?
    If Colourlock manufacture the products for Swissvax and they’re the same products but different packaging it begs the question how Matt will set up the leather maintenance portion of the interior package now

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Swissvax cleaners are their own formula not Colourlocks. The brush and Leather Creme is sourced from them.

    So my brother-in-law has that king ranch leather and it’s beautiful leather but it’s so finicky, and I wasn’t sure what we could really put on his leather for him and I didn’t want to recommend like Gyeon’s product line such as their cleaner... Now the information on the brushes that was very interesting, at least for my leather on my Subaru I’ve always used something like the creature with Gyeon’s leather cleaner and I just use that to clean my leather because I don’t let it get too dirty to where I really need to have a brush but I’m going to try that brush theory unfortunately I have some chemical guys leather protectant left over🤦‍♂️

  • @Piglet6256

    water vapor permeability or water/liquid permeability? Cos im pretty sure we dont need gasses to penetrate the leather but liquids like condtioners / cleaners. Cos if i farth which happens in traffic jams I dont want my gasses to reach the leather necessarily :D, And yes that grandma cover on your steering wheel is a fabric, no leather :P. I did know that, but learned a lot in this video. it was informative!!!! good job

    I wish I would have been able to ask these guys their opinion on the coming synthetic leather companies like Modern Meadow who are producing biological synthetic leather which is indistinguishable from cow leather but never came from a cow. They produce it from the cells up. Super interesting stuff and I think the future of leather and eventually the future of edible meat.
