Putting lots of work, dedication and also love in these projects makes those videos to be my favorite. Great job and can't wait for next episode! I love how it let us imagine the geography, the terrain and the settlements back then.
Thank you kindly. Alex did a great job with pronunciations in the voice over, and we've had help from Calin Cretu, a cool Romanian dude who checked all of our pronunciations. In the Battle of Vaslui video I was mostly responsible for the poor pronunciations, but thankfully we've improved :)
Many of romanian rulers made the same (Stephen the Great, Michael the Brave). We have many brave rulers. I expect a video with John the Brave (Ion Voda cel Cumplit). Was one of the bravest romanian rulers.
As i've seen below, somebody already congratulated you on the pronunciation of Targoviste, Bucuresti too, and i wanted to do the same and wish you all the best in the future, your videos are astoundingly good. I actually paused what i was doing to see this video of my hometown. History is a pleasure when presented in such a good way, hope you become a millionaire, really do :D
Thank you sir. Neither Alex, nor I speak a word of Romanian, so I truly appreciate your positive feedback. I tried to research proper pronunciations this time, I did a horrible job in the Vaslui video sadly. We also had help from a cool Romanian guy who corrected our pronunciations, and Alex did a fine job with the voice-over in the end.
For previous videos I should have been more thorough myself and not just depend on you / my own experience for pronunciations. Your script work is fantastic and having your Romanian friend check it was invaluable!
Best videos Sir. I love what you do and how you do it. You will always have a like from me and others at every video of Romanian history and of course at every video you release 👍! I think you're becoming one of my favorite TH-camr already.
Most leaders of that era were too wimpy to fight on their own. Vlad was trained in combat from a young age and had a very personal vendetta against the Empire he was sold to as an innocent child. God knows what they did to him. Kind of brought this on themselves.
Hilarious part is that much of his training and tactics used against the Ottomans were taught to him by themselves. Bet they regret that in the long run.
Humiliating your father's killer by forcing him to dig his own grave in front of his men, Sneaking into an Ottoman fortress, assassinating the guards and eliminating the garrison... Man this deserves to be turned into a movie series - its literally the Romanian version of Game of Thrones.
Please continue with Romanian history! I am Romanian and I never find videos about Romania! I subscribed to you the instant I saw your video about the battle of Vaslui.Keep up the good work!

This is a very interesting way of teaching history, you transform every aspect in something so captivating. Your work is amazing and much apreciated! Especially loved the Battle of Vaslui and this one because I live on those territories once ruled by Stefan cel Mare and Vlad the Impaler.
It's really impressive how you presented how Vlad transformed and reformed Wallachia. I really love this, Here in Romania, they don't teach un history as well as this. They almost teach us nothing, just general things. The fact that Vlad was a dueler was unknown to me, and so was that he was such a modern national leader, implementing such modern centralisation methods. I trully love your work on my country's history :)). I would love you to present more about Romania's History and her evolution :)). Again, I personaly trully thank you for this video. I love my ancenstor a lot more than before thanks to you presenting him so well :))
Very kind words sir. Thank you very much. I too love the history of the Balkan and Carpathian regions, so I'll will surely do more videos about these parts in the future. Targoviste part 2 should be out sometime in June.
LOL, they teach you, if you want it an if you care to know more about your own country. They...who?! Do you think that in other countries everybody is learning everything about their country? That any professor is teaching kids about everything?
I live in Targoviste and it's so cool to walk around the city, looking at castle ruins and think: "Damn these have been here for hundreds of years. This is where Vlad lived"
Thank you for the covering my country's history and I hope you will cover more of it. You did great with the pronunciations and the overall content. Keep it up, excellent job!
Thank you sir. Yes, this time I did better research on pronunciations than in the Vaslui video. Alex's did a wonderful job with the voice-over, but we had lots of help from a great bloke from Romania, who checked everything and recorded audio of how names should be pronounced.
I'm really glad that you made this video. Definitely, Romania had some great rulers and its history deserves to be tell. You do some great stuff, I love all your videos and I hope that in the future you will also make one about the Armada Invencible ( Battle of Gravelines 1588)
I'm quite glad you think that. I'm constantly trying to improve the visual presentation. Changed a lot of small things over time due to suggestions and negative feedback from viewers. Thank you for watching.
A history fact is that Vlad the Impaler was actually a role model for Ivan the Terrible. Ivan was a great diplomat and some of his cruel and diplomatic actions was inspired from Vlad. Another fact is that when Ivan was a child he was asking stories about Vlad and he was very impressed and excited. The best part is that Stalin was considering Ivan the Terrible the best leader that ever exist.
Bit of an amateur compared to the Mongols, who when they stormed Baghdad killed every man, woman, child, and animal (down to the rats and mice) as a warning to others who might think of resisting!
Great video! And I can't believe someone makes video documentaries and strategic animations about us! I thought we were forgotten, completely forgotten. Our history is great, our culture is ancient, and we managed to survive here, around so many enemies. Thanks, man, for paying this tribute to Romanian history!
As a romanian i am very impressed with the pronuciantion of our cities and leaders, it's spot on! Highly educational and qualitative video. thank you very much.
Thank you sir, I do try to improve any aspect of how the videos look and feel. I've made changes bit by bit from one video to the next, and it's nice to see people notice and like the changes.
You gota admit - walking into your enemy's camp with just a handful of men, telling them to lower their defenses, is quite ballsy for a prince of all people to.
Really great and well explained videos, I particularly like that your videos include the context for the battle, because more often than not it makes the big battle to come far more interesting.
As a romanian i am proud to see this narrated with such voice force.. this guy can read my grocery list and make it seem like an epic journey :D. looking forward for 2nd part
LMAO, then as you're leaving you turn to the cashier and, doing the voice of Robin Williams from Good morning Vietnam, you say: "Picture a man going on a journey beyond sight and sound", and then defiantly walk out of the shop.
Was bored with nothing too watch and then I noticed you guys posted a new video! Keep up the great work. This is definitely becoming one of my favorite channels on TH-cam.
I made a comment on a previous video criticizing some aspects of the audio effects and music, and I'd like to say that all those issues have been perfectly addressed, and your channel is now top tier as far as I'm concerned. Congratulations.
Thank you sir. I personally like seeing negative feedback as long as it's constructive, and I really try to address it. It's not always perfect, but bit by bit things are improving :)
Thank you sir. I've had help in my pronunciation research from a cool Romanian guy who checked everything. Then it was up to Alex to bring the names to life, did a fine job dare I say.
He was a mad man and a psycho who is burning in hell for all the women and children killed. In the end he lost his dead and I have no sympathy for him. And you would be here if not for him. You’re implying that if Muslims rose we want to kill everyone, bullshit. In our religion non Muslims can go to heaven and Christians and Jews are people of the book.
This is amazing! After ~10 years of Romanian history, I did not even remotely have this image of Vlad. Thank you and please do go on with Romanian history clips.
I've watched all your videos by now and I think this is the best yet! You know how to tell a good story and, even better, make a good video to go with it. I really, really love the visual style and quick, steady pacing. And you're a fantastic narrator. You've got major potential, man, and I can't wait to see what the future holds :)
Thank you very much, truly appreciate your positive feedback. I research a ton of material for each script so it's nice to hear praise. The narration is done by Alex Doddy, I too love his style and delivery.
VLAD TEPES ROMANIAN NATIONAL HERO! Much revered and missed by today's romanian people! Thank you sir, great quality graphics, commentary and soundtrack, HAIL to you from Romania 🇲🇩!
Thank you, Alex did a fine job on the voice-over. We've had help from a cool guy from Romania who checked and recorded audio with proper pronunciations.
as someone with an armenian background, i think vlad is a christian hero and his bravery is impressive, especially how he punched above his weight class without a second thought
Doing videos with Romanian battles makes me feel very good and also those are very good for education purpose. I hope to see in the future more of them. Thanks a lot and keep the good work !
There are legends that say that in these days the mugs of fountains were made of gold and nobody stole them for the fear of being impale...maybe those are just legends, but i'm sure that man can be controlled by fear
Yes I too read similar things, how a young woman could walk along Wallachian roads alone while carrying a purse filled with gold, and she wouldn't be harmed due to the fact that Vlad virtually exterminated bandits and petty criminals.
Legend says in his tme was a fountain with a can made from gold for anybody to drink water. Nobody dare to steal it cos thievs and traitors were impailed. In that day when he died the can was stolen.
This is absolutely amazing! I love the close up maps and the new info you bring about battles like Târgoviște, it's really interesting! Never knew so many of these things, even though I'm romanian and it's my history, but now I do, thanks to you! Keep it up and I hope your channel blows up and gains millions of subs! Definitely sharing this one with my friends!
Whether you consider his actions murder or justice, one thing is for sure - this man didn't waste time sitting on his hands! He could have ruled Wallachia and grown fat while doing absolutely nothing. He had high connections with all his neighbors - the Moldavian warlord(a man of legend himself) was his cousin, the Hungarians saw him as a loyal servant and he rubbed elbows with the Turkish sultan since they were children, being more like brothers rather then rivals. Instead, he chose the path of action...
^This. That's why I think that, while Vlad's rule was brutal, it wasn't because he was inherently a brutal man. In choosing to attempt to set Wallachia on a new course, he considered the brutal measures as a necessary evil for the benefit of Wallachia
An excellent video but your 'opinion' that he was not by nature a cruel man is absurd. In a time more brutal than most his example of TERROR was exceptional. Even the Turks, the standard bearers of cruelty, saw him this way as in the end did his own people. Effective yes. Stalin was too but VERY brutal. Why the reality denial?? Don't reinforce today's resurgent ignorant reactionary nationalism and bigotry. (NOT cool, anymore than anti free speech Liberal PC is).
It seems only empires have the monopolistic right on efficient terror. Well, I'm sure Vlad learned first hand, from the Ottomans, how to do it, only he did it better. He went to both the Sandhurst and School of the Americas of his time simultaneously and apparently graduated first of his class, arguably besting even Stephen the Great or Michael the Brave in military strategy and tactics. You are wrong, Mago is not Romanian, so the "resurgent ignorant reactionary nationalism" is only in your head. The standard bearers of cruelty... hmmm, you probably never heard what crusaders did in Palestine or when they sacked Constantinople, to mention just a few examples already happened in Vlad's time. There are so many more, many without any military justification.
*autnocens* Vlad did learn about impaling from them but they used it as a SPECIAL punishment for traitors, Not en masse As for Crusader insanity I get accused of anti West propaganda even though the majority of evidence for Christian insanity (Jerusalem) and slaughter comes from the Christian writers of the time. Lastly i never said Mago is Romanian but this history attracts the worst sorts See other comments (see all the WW II neo Nazi fans)
I like how you talked about how he strengthened his country, I don’t care what people say about him he was an amazing leader. He singlehandedly held off the ottomans for a decent amount of time. Especially impressive because he was in civil war too. Walachia didn’t need a nice ruler, they needed a merciless dragon who was willing to do anything that’s necessary.
I wonder what would have happened if the Hungarians and the Moldovians joined with Vlad and hit the Ottomans? Missed opportunity. Looking forward to the next one in this series.
Ahh the great what if's of history. I've spent countless hours... days even, thinking about alternative history topics from various parts of the world. Part 2 should be release sometime during June.
A true hero he was. "It is not the love of God that brings people to the church. It's fear of hell's agonies!" "And you want to embody them, Highness?" "I must lead the country to righteousness! Mehmed is close! Before him, the country must be like an invincible steel sword. Swords are hardened through fire." "Not hell's fires!" "I haven't another handy."
This looks so professional! I wish we'd had this kind of high quality channel a few years back at school, it would have boosted the interest in history, including of other countries! Great job, might be yout most appealing video yet! For a little negative feedback, idk if it's just me but a little bigger and broader summary of what follows the events discussed in the video would be appreciated. But it's just me and it's nitpicking at this point!
Thank you very much for the kind words. For the 'aftermath' part of the story, I only mentioned briefly the Wallachian population in Bulgaria, and I slightly touched on the general political/military situation after Vlad's 1461 raid, I couldn't go more into detail because that's where the story will continue in part 2. Hopefully the story will be much more complete when I finish the video.
Vlad Tepes, Janush Hunyadi, and Skanderbeg are the medieval Ghostbusters that helped slow the advance of the Ottoman menace. They were all in correspondence with each other and if they were able to unite their forces the Ottomans would have been finished in the Balkans. This was a well put video and popcorn worthy. Bravo!! P.S. Since your interested in Balkan history you should look into Skanderbeg since there aren't that many pieces on him and I think you'd be interested.
Holy fuck this dude just decided battles by cutting people in half during duels, sent heads as messages to kings, impaled whole armies, burnt alive the homeless, killed everyone who opposed him, forced people to dig their own graves, made infiltration operations by himself and took the fight with one of the mightiest empires of that time... this is both more brutal and epic than any fiction I know. Anyway, great job on this video too!
If you're looking for feedback, I really like the design, organization, and content of the graphic at around 3 minutes. It's extremely clear and easy to understand, and it's a good counterpoint to the non-military aspects of this slice of history.
Always looking for feedback, positive and negative, keeps me on my toes. Thank you. I agree completely with what you said. Presenting certain parts of the story in that way allows for more info and details to be added and connected with the rest of the story.
A very nice piece featuring some history and warfare , I had not known about in such detail . A excellent piece of military history and looking forward to part2 [bows in homage] :D
Thank you very much. We've been heavily criticized in our Battle of Vaslui video for incorrect pronunciations - that was in large part my fault as I'm the one writing the script and checking pronunciations. But for this video we had help from Calin Cretu who was so kind to check our pronunciations.
Thank you sir. Been researching a lot for part 2 already, and I've just received help from a group of professors from the Justus Liebig University in Germany. They've sent me their research papers, one of whom spent the last few years in Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, going through local sources while researching this very topic. So I hope to re-shape my script and put in as many interesting details in the video from their work.
Firstly, I am from Romania myself (living in the US) and have to say I enjoy these videos because the content is much better presented than any lesson in school. We had to learn all these dates and battles in the most boring way! 😩 I had a conversation with an ignorant colleague and had to explain why Vlad was revered. The same way Ivan the Terrible was revered and the adjective used was meant to create fear for his enemies. We have to remember these were medieval times and diplomacy did not work (it was a weakness).
Thank you very much. Always nice to know that one of my videos takes someone's mind off things, even if it's just for 10min. If it's no trouble for you, share the video with your friends.
Greetings from Turkey. Here I see a very neutral, fluent and successful narrative of history. We, as modern humans, should use history not to use it with perverse feelings, but to understand the truths and wrongs of the past, and to get to know our cultures and identities better.
Hello, certainly, but some of you people, still live on the battle field, it is just annoying for everybody in this region, we should to renounce to our historical frustrations and develop our countries...
Amazing video! I have seen many of your older videos, and I can gladly tell that their quality has improved quite a lot since those were published. The animations are gorgeous, the narration is captivating and the visuals are stuning. Keep up the good work guys!

That pronunciation of targoviste was spot on, especially for a non native, well done
HistoryMarche no problem and actually all pronunciations were top notch not just that. Very nicely done video, sub.
You should've asked a Bulgarian for correct pronunciation of Търговище
a king who fights his own battles... that says a lot about the man
Many of romanian rulers made the same (Stephen the Great, Michael the Brave). We have many brave rulers. I expect a video with John the Brave (Ion Voda cel Cumplit). Was one of the bravest romanian rulers.
Wouldn’t that be a sight...
Vlad Tepes was a real badass and had balls of steal to enter personally in the enemies city or camp.

When is the REAL Vlad getting his own movie. What a badass to take on the Ottomans alone.
Agreed. There are so many interesting topics that would be great on the movie screen, but we get Avengers and Transformers part 53...
Dracula Untold is the best version of the vlad story imo
There is also a Romanian movie called Vlad Tepes made in 1979 if you want to see it

Valid point.
This is a very interesting way of teaching history, you transform every aspect in something so captivating. Your work is amazing and much apreciated! Especially loved the Battle of Vaslui and this one because I live on those territories once ruled by Stefan cel Mare and Vlad the Impaler.
Thank you very much sir. Nice to see when someone from those parts enjoys the video.

Ivan the Terrible : I am the cruelest person alive.
Vlad the Impaler : Hold my beer.
LMAO
A history fact is that Vlad the Impaler was actually a role model for Ivan the Terrible. Ivan was a great diplomat and some of his cruel and diplomatic actions was inspired from Vlad. Another fact is that when Ivan was a child he was asking stories about Vlad and he was very impressed and excited. The best part is that Stalin was considering Ivan the Terrible the best leader that ever exist.

Definitely sharing this one with my friends!
Thank you sir. Glad to know you learned something new from the video. And thank you for sharing the video.
In choosing to attempt to set Wallachia on a new course, he considered the brutal measures as a necessary evil for the benefit of Wallachia
ionicafardefrica
I would consider him a murder

I had to use Google-translate. You're very much welcome, thank you so much for watching.
