No I definitely agreed. I was excited watching your first vid. I got the shoe, started reaching for them a lot over my new X2’s and preferred them… but now after 150miles in them, they don’t feel springy and fresh and I prefer my Mach’s over it and prefer to race in my Nikes 😢 great reviews. Glad it’s not just me

Pretty much nailed it Mike. I have the Carbon X 2, got in a sale UK £74 so good price. 100 miles in. Initially enjoyed and used it for a very hilly paved half marathon which actually seems to be it's best place and you can benefit from the rocker uphill and heel downhill. However since then, I've found it too firm and on a 20 mile run really hurt my feet. So switched to the ASICS Glideride 3 for my upcoming Chester Marathon this Sunday... Comfort cruising😉

Hi! I have owned the Hoka Carbon X3 for 4 weeks. I ran 3 times and I can say that I am satisfied. What is very important to understand with these shoes is that we have to change and adapt your techniques running. I like to use them for tempo runs. But yes, I am satisfied

IMHO: Hoka One One has been resting on their laurels for way too long. It's time to come up with an improved midsole foam. I find all of their shoes boring, Nike, Saucony and New Balance are lightyears ahead. Keep up the great unbiased reviews.

Great video as always. I got a second hand pair of carbon x2 to see what they are like due to negative or average reviews. I love them. The stability is great due to the wide platform and they roll you through your stride. Comfy and once on I forget about the shoe and cruise at a consistent pace. Great for triathlons as a result in my opinion. Looking forward to the release of the rocket x 2 - perhaps this will finally be a hoka road shoe that wows people

I've been looking at a new shoe as I normally run in Nike Pegasus which did me well being flat footed but I've had some injuries, so I'm looking to change to a new shoe that still offers me stability but being neutral and ok for flat footed runners. Would this work well?

I purchased a pair, because I like the initial feel and looks of the shoe. It put a lot of spring in my step and initially hurt my calves of my legs (I have 2 new knees) and have had multiple knee replacements, but after using them they help my feet and legs. All that said, I am retired and paid dearly for these shoes (165 dollars) shoes only and added a pair of Artex insoles and ended up with spending about 230 dollars. I should not have added the Artex insoles because they were not necessary because I did not like the insoles and the standard insole that came in the shoes were sufficient. End result, really too expensive for me. I had to sacrifice other things to try and help my aged legs.

I transitioned from a wide GTS adrenline and a Hoka Bondi to this shoe where the upper let my chubby feet into a regular fit shoe, allowing me ginally to have a carbon plate show that worked. I had a repeat (high arch, long first toe) joint tendonitis issue with high mileage…..the plate fixed that be supporting/restricting the toe box deformation….i recovered with this shoe, went from 50 to a 75 mile per week training peak to my first BQ this year in a well pired Rocket X shoe. Mr K, for an almost elite running rock star like you, this i see is a fair review……but regular schmoes like me, age 55 3/4 after 10 years of failing….it helped me get a BQ so was a game changer….so if you have feet issues, get this shoe….i found the upper durable, soft enough vs other shoes for long run comofort…but not too soft to wear out (+100 miles vs the adrenaline, and 150 miles better than the bondi) nor to coddle the foot and make it weaker. Plus the rocket x pairing was perfect on race day….for me.

I got a carbon X 3, I kind of like the shoe but hate this upper. If you want to get one either get de x 2 which seems a bit better or wait till they release the x 4. The rocket x is also a really good shoe if you want a Hoka with carbon plate and it feels less stiff and clunky.

From a very slow road ultra runner's point of view, the Rocket X is a better half -full marathon and the Carbon-X is a beast for long road ultras. Notwithstanding Endorphin Pro other carbon racers are too unsteady for me.

I get the feeling we are really spoiled as consumers generally speaking. Whether it's running shoes / watches, cars, even when I researched and bought an entry-level digital piano, basically all reviewers seem to have the same take on things: You almost can't go wrong with any popular brand or product. It really just comes down to personal tastes and small preferences. Everything seems to be so dialed-in, and competition is fierce... anything that is below a very tight standard drops off the map in 1 product generation, generally a year or two. This might not be the case in 2024-2025. Corners might have to get cut once again... 90s plastic crap might make a come back.

I was looking for a new shoe since I'm starting to feel like my X2s are starting to compress a little too much to where I'm starting to feel a little uncomfortable on my feet after 7-8 miles which is something I rarely experienced with Boost or early on. I don't think I'll go for another carbon shoe, or if I do, then I'll probably just keep doing another X2. Thanks for the honest review!! Carbon X3 is my first Hoka and frankly am a bit disappointed as it didnt give me the similar level of propulsion or motivation during the run when compare to my retired Vaporfly. I agree, bought the Carbon X3 as a long run trainer, having enjoyed the Carbon X SPE as a steady cruiser at marathon pace. Most aspects of this shoe fit me well, within the intended purpose: fairly stiff, good turnover, comfy upper, excellent stability, built for those Sunday mornings 😉 But ... just like you experienced it, it's a decent pair of shoes that sadly doesn't provide anything more than that. A solid work horse. Not so exciting.

Hi Kofuzi! Many thx for this great review and for maintaining a critical angle despite all the X3 hype! I like your channel very much! I am not worthy of lecturing you on running, but may I ask - are you aware that your foot mechanics during landing/rolling is actually that of a forefoot runner? It‘s clearly visible at 02:19, 04:36, 05:52 or in the slo-mos from the back 02:50, 03:10 or 03:17 that you actually land on your distal midfoot/forefoot. Also when looking at the wear pattern of the sole at 02:41 or 04:11 it‘s quite striking that after 100 miles there is almost no wear on the heel and the heel extension. I bring this up because as a forefoot-leaning runner you might not have any benefit from this class of shoe, because during the landing phase (past the heel) you would not create any deflection of a carbon or whatever plate that could be re-gained during takeoff over the toes. Just a question that crossed my mind. Best wishes and keep on running! Mathias

Great Review! One thing that occurred to me regarding any shoe with a carbon plate is comfort. Especially for racing shoes and the super shoes, I hear people saying that they expect to sacrifice some comfort for a faster shoe. Well I have a hard time understanding this because I personally run faster in shoes that are more comfortable. If a shoe that is designed for speed causes discomfort to my foot, Im going to run slower than a non-super shoe that has more comfort. I have tried the vast majority of super shoes this year and with the exception of the NB FC Elite and the Atreyu The Artist would/could not run more than 13 miles in any other supershoe without experiencing pain. So, I guess my question/comment is, It would make sense to me that any person would run slower in a shoe that is less comfortable, so why do these SUper Shoe?marathon ready shoes focus more on snappyness and responsivness rather than comfort?

The one thing I can't understand: The elf tab that's supposed to help you put the shoe on. Alright, it may help, but how much time do you waste without it? Two seconds or three? And the ridiculous elf tab collects debris from the unpaved road throughout the run. I am really worried that most running shoes are succumbing to the market for lifestyle shoe absurdities.

I am not racing marathons, I don't want a shoe that I will need to get used to and will only last a very short time, so I'm not your typical Carbon shoe buyer. It's surprising that Hoka aren't really going for an out and out racing Carbon shoe with lots of Pop somewhere in the line up. I think there is a place for a shoe like this, but surely a Super Shoe Race Day shoe is needed from Hoka.

Does the outsole normally wears down fast? I only registered 27km on my pair and I already can see wear issues. I'm only using it on oval tracks.

I am looking for a 100km runningshoe for next summer and i am wondering if the Carbon x3 would be an option for it? ( probably the other carbon racers arent really suitable for such a long distance )

Yeah Mate, I've got the Carbon x3 and definitely think it would be good for a 100k, the rocker's quite good so it will just keep pushing you forward when you are tired, but the shoe is a bit stiff though

My podiatrist recommended this shoe because I have metatarsalgia and need a shoe with a rocker and firmness in the middle.

Dear people it is worh mentioninig that if you hapen to have any problems with you're Hoka shoes at least in the UK customer service is a joke. You can check Trust pilot reviews to understand how bad it is. So for me at least never again will I buy their shoes.

Hoka is about design and marketing, not technology... For the price paid, other brands offer much better shoes.
