Excellent video. I have been buying used reels that need line and would like to control how much I put on them. I have been using a lot of braid lately and will use my flourocarbon for backing and leaders. I have an old broken rod I could use for re-spooling and add the line counter!
Definitely valuable for accurate loading of a new spool. AFA accurate for on the water, can't be that far off, the fish don't have a set depth, but do show up in schools so being in that general depth is fine. This is a lot more accurate than counting pulls from the reel.

Yes, I have one of these too; went looking on-line to see how others were attempting to get this silly thing to work, & there I found your most excellent production! I have also taken the two (2) screw-in covers off (very carefully of course), & actually observed that funny little "line-contact" wheel inside. Yes, doing this helped me understand just a little bit better how this contraption is supposed to work. In the very lowest (middle-grooved) section of this little wheel, I noticed a soft plastic-coating, which I think helps with getting a lil bit of grip on the fishing-line when it passes over & through the mechanism when measuring. Later on today I plan on going outside in my yard and doing some simple calibration tasks to see just how accurate I can adjust the thing to work somewhat properly. Thanks again for your video!
Thank you, excellent idea. im sure that most fishermen would do the same thing. thats the information I was looking for. running a backer line with some older line, helps to keep it out of the trash, and also saves money when filling a new reel with good/expensive line. I want to ask a question: how many guys know which knot to tie, to connect braid to mono or flouro? is it a blood knot? Palomar? triple surgeons knot? please. p.s. Greetings, I was so hoping this would work for me; perhaps because I was using 10# braid it didn't track. It tracked for approximately 90' then stopped. Reset it several times but no dice. Returning it to the store prior to warranty expires. ✌️
I use it all the time. I needed to add line to a closed face ultralight reel I have. It had been forever since I'd used it, and had no idea how much line it held. On the outside of the reel it said how much for each weight of line you might use. I grabbed the line counter and put on the right amount. So much easier then taking off the cover to see how much is on, and having to put it on and add some more.
I have not gone out and actually measured to test accuracy, but with the use of 25 yards of backing I am able to fill 4 reels from a 300 yard spool of braid, putting 75 yards of braid on each reel. Could it be off a few yards one way or the other, I'm sure that's possible, but each reel appears to have the proper amount of line on them, and I've had no problems since I started doing this.

How the heck do you adjust it to work?
Just make sure you attach it to your rod backwards from the way it should be attached to count out line.

You say its repeatability accuracy is good, but is the actual accuracy good. Is 100 yards by counter 100 yards by measurement?
