Legit soared into my top 10 favorite pokemon of all time (so far) because of just how good the design is. Even with the modern animations lacking attitude like the GC era, it just feels so derp and cute.
Clodsire truly is Quagsire 2.0. By every definition of the word it's either bad, mediocre, or horribly outclassed, but it's too unaware of what a tier even is and just goes wherever it feels like, and not a single soul can say anything otherwise.
This reminds me a bit of Clefable. Stats that are just kinda good enough, two great abilities that each require a different counter, and a shitton of good tools.

This is what I do. I usually play PU so I can get away with using eelektross and cacturne or other silly mons Your favorites are probably good everywhere, unless your favorite mon is cosmoem
The weakest mons in the strongest positions almost always are the reason why the meta changes drastically so the day we see clodsire win a tournament is the day the casual pokemon fanbase can finally use their favorite mona on one team and not be judged for it.

KNOW YOUR WORKPLACE MANNERS Clodsire: I'm a specially defensive wall with unaware and another great ability which changes my answers and checks. Aww how sweet! Clefable: I'm a specially defensive wall with unaware and another great ability which changes my answers and checks. Hello human resources?
Both Clod and Quagsire are overall well designed versions of the whole low stats and kinda carried by abilities, typing and movepool approach. Both had a noticeable and effective niche without being too much of an unmanageable headache (even for the pokemon they're usually tasked to deal with). And of course, Clodsire is the friend shapiest of friend shaped mons.
The part about it being good in Go- it gets mud shot which is great for energy generation and has similar bulk to that of the Tin Can- Registeel. It also has some pretty hard hitting moves like stone edge, sludge bomb and earth quake.
Also it has a big defence stat and a (fairly) low attack stat so because of how the combat power calculation works it's able to be much stronger than 'better' pokémon while still having under 1500CP so it can be played in standard. Also it doesn't insta-lose to skarmory which in the current meta is a huge gamer trait.
@@sigmarthcipherius5153 Shouldn’t be, Bug isn’t STAB, and it isn’t needed as coverage. It’s sort of resisted by all the same things as both Ground and Poison. I figure they just gave it some random move because it was a new Pokémon(ie: people want it anyway) No matter how much I try to theorize a situation that it could possibly be good, it always loses out to Stone Edge at least. Bug offensively just doesn’t do much. Maybe Wo-Chien and Ting-Lu will be oppressive enough to justify it. …That could be it actually. We have a Rock/Poison resist weak to Bug, and a 4x Bug weakness that resists Ground. It’s probably still better to run Stone Edge/ground move, but eh.
Another great part about clodsire is the toxic + stab earthquake. The 2 types that are immune to poison, poison and steel, are weak to ground, so you can toxic everything that can be poisoned and chunk everything that can't with a supereffective stab EQ
It's good in Pokemon GO because the CP limit in Great League being 1500. There's no special/physical split in GO. It has bulky combined stats and strong coverage moves. Poison Sting and Mud Shot generate lots of energy to throw out an Earthquake/Sludge Bomb or possibly Stone Edge if that coverage is preferred. Poison is a decent defensive typing in GO, resisting the all-powerful Fighting type fast move Counter. Ground, similar to the MSG, is a great attacking type. It can flip losses into wins with a slight energy advantage to fire off an EQ. It can simply eat moves, lose and damage troublesome Pokemon to set up an energy advantage with another Pokemon too. The big issue is that it loses to the Water/Ground types, Poliwrath, Gligar, and Skarmory. It has no fast move pressure. It requires 6+ fast moves to generate energy to fire a charge move. The combination of low fast move pressure, slow-ish charge moves, low attack, means opponents can "set up" an energy lead and force a CMP tie (two charge moves fired at the same time, Clodsire usually will lose the tie, go second, but faint).
A massive con of unaware clod is that it also ignores the opponent's stat drops, for example in ubers water absorb clod can tank 2 consecutive draco meteors from miraidon without dying due to the second having its halved damage after the stat drop while unaware clod can't
I recently bought some clay and keychain rings and made myself a chimecho keychain, I'm seriously considering making a closire one since it's got a pretty simple shape and is cute af
Clodsire I feel is the exact opposite a lot of my problems with how Gen 9 powercrept its mons. It doesn't have a perfect balanced stat spread that inflates its BST, it doesn't have any flashy new moves or abilities that only it gets, it's just a rearanging of elements that existed beforehand, and in doing so it ended up being one of the most unique and interesting new additions.
On topic of favorites not being the most competitively viable, I absolutely adore Hisui-Goodra. The problem it has competitively is it's extremely slow and has no good form of instant recovery. However, experimenting with Goodra anyway has led me to making a pretty fun team using Alomomola to pass Wish healing, along with other partners like Gliscor and Rillaboom. They actually have really good defensive synergy, which ended up meaning I could fully invest in the 110 Sp.Atk Goodra has and become a really scary wallbreaker. And with Assault Vest, Goodra can face-tank a Focus Blast since it already has a 150 Sp.Def. I know this is pretty long, but point is: Use your favorites! Have fun playing with the Pokemon you enjoy even if they might need a bit of extra support to work properly in competitive.
Rillaboom can enable so many different strategies, I'm currently on a tear using Choice Band Arcanine-Hisui to blow holes on teams, Rillaboom both enables entry points with U-Turn and heals potential hazard damage so you don't have to run boots
I'm positive this exact team _clapped_ Joey (PokéAimMD) during a relatively recent Showdown live. He always talks down on Goodra, but offensive ones pop up and demolish him from time to time lol
I just realized that this thing would be an absolutely amazing Xerneas check if the Uber deer was in Gen 9. Poison-typing combined with Unaware makes it absolutely able to tank Xerneas' Geomancy + Fairy Aura Moonblasts all day with max SpDef investment while setting up Spikes, Stealth Rock or T-Spikes. Clodsire would have to fear Psyshock, but that's the ONLY thing Xerneas could do to seriously damage it, and the Uber deer really wants Thunder or Focus Blast for its other checks. Granted, Necrozma-Dusk Mane and Primal Groudon are far better Xerneas checks, but hey, you take what you can get.
I'm trying to run a (honestly kinda just ok) sand team in OU with Clod in it, and honestly some of the biggest highlights have been when water absorb clodsire completely shuts down rain teams single-handedly because he just slowly spreads toxic across their whole team while successfully 1v1ing Duraludon because that man gets 0 coverage while clod heals more than it can deal with its stab
As someone who knows far too much about pokemon go PVP: TL;DR - Clodsire's an obscenely tanky boye who has good typing and very solid closing moves! Long version: In Pokemon Go, clodsire 's stat spread is almost perfect for PvP! Pokemon have 3 stats: Attack (how much damage your moves do), Def (how much damage you take from moves), and Stamina (how much HP you have), which are used to calculate your CP, or overall combat power. Due to how CP calculation works, pokemon with less attack can have a larger stat total - attack is weighted more heavily, meaning in battle leagues with a CP cap (Great league being capped and being the only one played In tournaments), a pokemon with low attack and OBSCENELY high stamina (HP) like Clodsire can have more stats within the 1500 CP limit! in particular, it's INCREDIBLY tanky. This also ties into its moveset: Clodsire's fast moves (main attacking moves) do poor damage but have above average charge move generation. it also has very strong Charge Moves (delayed moves that you have to build to); but because it's so bulky, it can hit for good damage with charge moves, and still have the time and health left to build up to a powerful Earthquake or Sludge Bomb, which makes it great for either forcing your opponent to burn a shield to protect against it (every player has only 2 Protect shields per match, meaning you can only block 2 of your opponent's charged moves and have to predict what moves you really don't want to be hit by.) or closing out matches without being walled by those shields! Poison and Ground is also a very strong defensive typing in a meta with many fighting type move users, electric types, and a few strong predominantly tanky Steel types - though it's still vulnerable to very common water and Psychic pokemon, like Medicham an Azumarill (two obscenely good pokemon). Even then, in the right circumstance or with the right moveset, it can still hit them well! And it even can run Stone Edge to snipe the many flying pokemon who normally give it trouble, and are very common to handle Medicham.
I could tell you why it's good in pokemon go, since I play it competetively. Clodsire has access to poison sting and mudshot as fast moves, which are high energy generating. Due to it's low stat product and natural bulk, clodsire can reach most of its potential before powering up to the 1500 combat power limit for Great League, making it one of the bulkiest pokemon in the league, with hard-hitting charge moves like sludge bomb, earthquake, and stone edge, although you can only use two charge moves per pokemon. It's poison ground typing allows it to resist some of the more difficult fast moves like counter(fighting) and spark(lanturn is really popular rn) and since steel, electric, fighting, flying, and fairy are the types of the top cores that exist in great league rn, it matches up really well as a reliable safe swap in 0,1, and 2 shield scenarios against the current meta, with a slight fear of dewgong(except you can run stone edge) and azumarill(except you can run sludge bomb).
Quagsire was my fave since I played Gen 2 back when I was 6 and Clodsire is basically his brother so of course I love him too. I am happy that Quagsire and Clodsire despite being low base stated Pokémon just so happen to be very great niche pokemon. They're both amazingly designed both actual character design and gameplay wise.
I thought the video was just gonna be like "he's the bestest boi cause look at him!" which I would have agreed with 110%, but showing actual competitive stuff too is really nice! but yes, clodsire is the best pokemon and gamefreak will never reach this perfection ever again.
When I saw Paldean whooper I kinda rolled my eyes because I expected GF to fumble on Quag's derpy perfection. I am glad to eat those words. This is the most perfect boy.
Clodsire is perfectly friend shaped, and if it existed in this world, I'd probably move to a marshier state like, idk, Louisiana? to justify keeping one in a nice place he could do a happy soak in.
I used one in my playthrough of the main game and named her "Friend" because of how lovable and friend shaped they are and despite not giving the line a second thought before now this bundle of pure joy made me grow to love wooper and its evos
I don’t play competitive but for my entire play through of Violet-including dlc bc I got to lazy to swap out teams even if it made most of it easy lol-I kept this boy on my team and he’s such an awesome tank. Also setting up toxic spikes so worse case scenario I can poison stall opponents without having to waste a turn by using toxic?? Disgusting but I love it.
Fun fact, in VGC during Series 1 (the first one pre-paradox mons for those that don't know) Clodsire was one of the very few pokemon that could absolutely hard counter Tatsugiri + Dondozo. The most common set for Dozo back then was Order Up, Earthquake, Wave Crash and Protect. With how prevalent it was back then, you always needed a Dozo counter which famously was Murkrow but I thought that was boring. So here comes that boy, Tera Fairy Clodsire with Water Absorb holding an Air Balloon. It's immune to Order Up, Earthquake can't touch it and Water Absorb happens before any contact so it was impossible for Dozo to actually touch the Clodsire, and Clodsire also gets Haze so you could not only ruin the Dozo's day by removing the boosts, they couldn't do anything about it either.
I love Clodsire! Definitely my favorite Pokemon introduced in generation 9. A way cooler evolution than the unspeakable creature that evolved from Wooper in Generation 4. I named mine Lego Scatterer as he sets up Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes, and stepping on Legos is just as painful as Hazards in Pokemon.
I feel like Clodsire will become way more useful when box legendaries become legal in VGC. -Immune to Electro Drift/Water Spout/Origin Pulse/Surging Strikes -Resists Play Rough from Zacian and Collision Course from Koraidon -Doesn't care about Intrepid Sword/Grim Neigh -HUGE Special bulk idk, it might be based
I distinctly remember one time in show down where the last Pokémon I had was clodsire(affectionately nicknamed “the man”) and the person I was fighting had a hydrapple(named mark) and g.slowking, both of whom had regenerator. We ended up in a situacion where the battle proceeded to last 110 turns until the man successfully got pp staled and took himself out with recoil. And the thing that makes this so memorable was that the last thing the person said in chat was “gg the man”

clodsire is an example of my favourite kind of pokemon solid typing, stat spreads that are good enough but still below average, multiple builds that counter different things, access to support options but also ways to punish passive play without being pigeonholed into support pokemon with access to great tools that aren't like, a busted signature ability/move but still make up for middling to bad stats feel quite rare nowadays, but then i guess power creep makes that a tough balance to strike also clodsire is cute as a button and we need more salamander rep

Gholdengo (3 Nasty Plots): I SHALL DESTORY EVERYTHINGGG
Clodsire: nuh uh
I'm so glad this beautiful creature is ou
I love Clodsire! Definitely my favorite Pokemon introduced in generation 9. A way cooler evolution than the unspeakable creature that evolved from Wooper in Generation 4. I named mine Lego Scatterer as he sets up Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes, and stepping on Legos is just as painful as Hazards in Pokemon.
I feel like Clodsire will become way more useful when box legendaries become legal in VGC.
-Immune to Electro Drift/Water Spout/Origin Pulse/Surging Strikes
-Resists Play Rough from Zacian and Collision Course from Koraidon
-Doesn't care about Intrepid Sword/Grim Neigh
-HUGE Special bulk
idk, it might be based
He's so adorable...
And the thing that makes this so memorable was that the last thing the person said in chat was “gg the man”
Clodsire is my goodest boi and i will always use him regardless of the competitive meta game
Its even more sad when your favorite pokemon is not even present in the game-
Marshadow, Melmetal, Tapu Koko, Togekiss & Mega Lucario
Ariados can set up sticky web and die. That’s two whole things. It’s pretty good.
I love this plump round clod boi
I have been waiting on the Powerpoint for the main character (Clodsire) and it did not disappoint. I can't wait to see this channel take off with its Powerpoint and I too am a fan of Clodsire.
YEAH CLODSIRE! THAT'S MY GOAT!
Probably my favorite hazzard setter also one of my favorite pokemon of all time.
Most correct take on clodsire
"Oh My GoD iM dYiNg" - weak baby pokemon
"what's going on? 🗿" - clodsire (the best pokemon)

Yooo its clodsire himself introducing clodsire!
Man, it’s great to see all the new Mold Breaker Pokémon being added in the DLC, now we can finally Annihilate the Annoying Appalling and Absolutely Abhorrent Axolotl!
clodsire propaganda = serotonin boost
Such a happy derpy friend shaped mon
clodsire is an example of my favourite kind of pokemon
solid typing, stat spreads that are good enough but still below average, multiple builds that counter different things, access to support options but also ways to punish passive play without being pigeonholed into support
pokemon with access to great tools that aren't like, a busted signature ability/move but still make up for middling to bad stats feel quite rare nowadays, but then i guess power creep makes that a tough balance to strike
also clodsire is cute as a button and we need more salamander rep
