I just hate that the main character turns into a damn near different person within one episode of getting powers. The only aspect of the original him that remains is him being traumatized by the god thing, his whole persona and “””character development”””” both feel so fake
Honestly, I quit watching after episode 7. As a 19 year old male who is fixated on both fantasy and shonen anime, I seem like the perfect dude to buy into this kind of thing. My main issue was just that I found Sung Jin Woo... boring. He was entirely too one-dimensional for me to get invested in his story or goals. I spent several weeks watching the episodes as they came out, and I don't remember a single line of dialogue he had. I was battling sleep for most of the show. Even the spectacularly animated action scenes stirred no emotion in me, only admiration on a technical level. I'm fully capable of turning my brain off and just enjoying the ride, not everything has to be a masterclass in writing. But when there are so many works of fiction out there that have better characters, better fight scenes, or both, there's no reason to watch something that didn't have strong enough points on either side to be entertaining.
They removed almost all of his internal thoughts. He has very strong voews and opinions that are at best, morally grey, to japanese audience. I'd recommend reading the manwha, its smooth and the art is beautiful. From chapter one you can immediately see how much was cut out from the 1st dungeon...
As far as we get in this first season, I get most of your critism absolutly. We kinda lack a real goal or direction at this point, or rather as you put it, its a one dimensional "get stronger" That does change later on tho, so you really should watch the following seasons!
Honesty, I personally think you got it pretty spot on. The story starts good but kinda flats out pretty quick. The majority of the manhwa community thinks so as well, it’s kinda regarded as the „Demon Slayer“ of manhwa.
This video was not it. 5:00 makes no sense. It wouldn't be a reveal if we already knew. And your framing of them not doing anything is just false in terms of what is actually going on in the story. We see some guy talk to someone else before the events. Clearly something is being set up but you just framed it in a negative light so you would sound correct
I guess he feels those scenes are not enough for him to care that this random guy is now crazy that dies immediately. Not showing that he is outright crazy for some surprise I do agree with though for it to be some kind of reveal.
It's only the beginning homie. He's only just now getting his shadow army going. It's all about him getting stronger but the journey to that end point is so worth it. Plus, maybe someday they'll turn the spin-off/continuation into a manhwa then anime.

@@misterkrabs2254 That's fine, some liked the story, others didn't. I liked it, but I disliked the typical stoic hero with the Korean charm, but then again, that's a trendy thing for manhwas. I enjoy the trend, but it gets way too damn same same after a while. I very much so enjoyed the the growth of his army over time. But I a part of me sis still a sucker for that nice guy Korean charm regardless, it's part sexy, part smooth, and part cool af but not in an overbearing way like Black Star from Soul Eater. Although, I love my Black Stars too. lol
If you dont like than do not poop in public places it stinks... Its a Solo Leveling. If you do not know what it means than just learn it, this is not for you.

Yeah though that's not good that the introduction to this has nothing that hooks the viewer.
I actually read the webtoon tbh I'm excited that it's an anime. There is a lot in the story.

It get's better, it's only the beginning. Every story can't try and hook people in with shocks, some a slow starters that run at a good pace.
But the hook isn't that strong the first place and having a slower-paced introduction doesn't have to be a slog.
