      You need to look at the exact requirements for the countries you are interested in. For example, you can teach in Spain through the Auxiliares program for Indians but you need to take an official English exam, Spanish exam and have a degree in order to apply. Having a TEFL is helpful too.

    A friend of mine has recently told me I should not get my TEFL Certification that it's a waste of time. She said a friend of hers has a Masters Degree in teaching, speaks 5 languages, and said it's difficult to find a decent paying job. Is this true? I was so excited :( I have already started the Level 5 TEFL courses. I'm bummed - this was my dream.

    • @ESLTeacher365
      @ESLTeacher365  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That sounds like a lot of hearsay! If it’s your our dream - I say go for it. If you are concerned about making money, then make sure you are qualified. That way you can access the best paying jobs. It will also depend on where you are teaching. Higher paying positions will be in the Middle East and Asia, as well as international schools.

    I'm not American nor British and I feel like a lot of places tend to look down on non-native speakers (despite me having a degree in English Lit & Civ lol) but I just don't know where to look.. • @ESLTeacher365

      Yes, it’s a good idea to try teaching abroad for a few months before committing to a longer program or contract. I volunteered as an English teacher in Costa Rica for a summer before I decided to do this full-time. If you don’t have a TEFL certificate yet, another option is to do your TEFL course abroad. Greetings from an American expatriate EFL (and sometimes Spanish) teacher in Taipei, Taiwan! Do you have any tips for reaching affluent parents and other affluent students who won’t try to nickel-and-dime you to death when they hear your fees? I live near some nice apartment buildings with expensive cars visible in the parking garages as I bike past them, but unlike in the USA, there’s no community bulletin board nearby to post flyers and security certainly won’t let someone in to solicit private teaching business. Thoughts? Thanks!

      Some ESL companies don’t require a degree but the pay isn’t good. Teaching 1:1 abroad is tricky because you need a proper visa to work in another country. Some countries do offer freelance visas.
