- Bazm e Khas presents "Graj Garj", a beautiful composition based on Raag Megh Malhár by Fareed Hassan and Mohd. Amán. The original song was also sung by both of them in the web series "Bándish Bàndits" under the music direction of Shankar Ehsaan Loy

My father when he was alive once sang megh malhar and it actually rained ... honoured to be born in a family where we generally talk in music ragas are the soul of music.. and #shankarmahadevan sir must be commended for introducing it to the so-called main stream music scene of India ...
But Shankar sir's Karnataki Music, which is his base always influeces his Music directed even for Hindustani Music. For ex- The music during Dhadake & at some other phrases like Kali ghata following the aalaap can be felt like Karnataki Music.

@@manishsharma6415Woh basically Karnataki Music sikhe huve hain. Veena bhi bajana janate hain. Srinivas Khale( we call him Khale kaka) , one of d renowned Musician from Marathi Rangabhoomi further trained him in Hindustani vocal. He has sung Khale Kaka's " Bagalyanchi Maal fule" in which it clearly shown his Karnatak imusic influence. He has given music to "Katyar Kaljat Ghusali", in which also this clearly been felt.

For those who don't know, the name of the taal (rhythmic cycle) here is 'Ektaal'. When this taal is taught, it is taught along with its characteristic 'bol', namely - Dhin Dhin Dhaage Tirekita Tu Naa Kat Tin Dhaage Tirekita Dhi Naa.

There is a possibility that people would have heard even better maestros. Such people are bound to dislike. There is a thing with classical music - if you have heard the best version of a bandish, you would hate any attempt that's just a notch below... For example, depth in voice of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi or that of Pt. Jasraj is far better than both the maestros here.
By the way I did like this version.

Why don't we here more from the Sa Re Ga ma Pa 2012 competitors. Mohd Aman in particular. But equally awesome were Jasraj and Jasim. I think the best ever singing reality show to be aired till date. I have watched the season on repeat so many times. Even that SRGMP Marathi guy was pretty damn decent.
