I loved this video! You mentioned every one of my holy grail products! I get all my recommendations from you, so I shouldn’t be surprised. I’m in search of a body sunscreen that doesn’t feel or smell like sunscreen. I feel like body sunscreens are really lacking from Asian skincare. I hope this changes in the future.

The Make Prem Toner is a must for me. I recently discovered Isntree's Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel. WOW. Love at first use! It has an amazing texture; it really just glides on and disappears.

K-beauty has always had retinoids and other potent actives-what changed is the marketing! Korean brand Iope was actually one of the first in the WORLD to stabilize and launch a cosmetic retinoid product (which they still sell to this day😊)! Previously, these potent actives were only found in Premium and Luxury (mid-high end) brands-think Sulwhasoo, History of Whoo, Iope-as these were marketed to older women (40+ generally). Whereas the brands we’re more familiar with globally have been marketed to a younger demographic, who use social media and are more likely to speak English these days with changes in the Korean education curriculum.
So now, with these “younger brands” gaining traction globally, and the demand for more actives due to western influence, we see an increase in the offerings where they were previously absent, as the Korean youth simply had no interest.
The actives were always in K-beauty, they were just in “your mom’s cosmetics” brands 😅

Thanks for sharing more info! I've known about Iope for a long time of course. I think it's important to know it wasn't an integral part of a k-beauty routine as it is in the West, as you mentioned. Retinol of course has existed in skincare around the world for a long time!

Ok you mentioned a lot of my favorites here. I’ve been using the BoJ retinal as my face and neck retinoid basically since it launched. I’ve emptied 5 tubes and I don’t plan to stop using it any time soon. I’ve had very bad experiences with strong retinoids but this one I can use DAILY with no irritation. A holy grail, if they ever stop making it I will cry.
Illiyoon…. What can be said that hasn’t been said already. I use it on my face as part of my retinoid sandwich and on my hands at work. I wash my hands a lot at work so I go through it pretty quickly. It’s a nice waxy formula so it doesn’t leave residue when I touch things. I have gone through a full 500g tub of it and made a sizable dent in my second tub.
Hey Kelly, love this video ❤ I have some finds I thought might interest you. I lately started using 'the lab' oligo toner (simple but nice) as well as their green flavonoid cream (very interesting. Light yet nourishing). I've also discovered the pure'am barrier cream (delicious for evening or winter time). And lastly pyunkang yul Ato soothing mist (feels like water but then... Strangely replenishing). All fragrance free.
I'm in love with the Dr ceuracle essence ! I'm on my second bottle.

I love watery toners that come in massive bottles so I can use them as sprays. I do that with the round lab toner sometimes. Admittedly, I like the Make Prem so much more. I have tried a lot of hydrating serums/moisturizers/toners/essences and NOTHING gives me the hydration that make:prem does! I don’t even have to layer it to get that hydration, which is really convenient. I have gone through 1.5 FULL SIZE bottles of it.
Such a good video! I’m picking up the Make Prem toner and the Dr Ceuracle essence asap!

Haru haru chemical sunscreen is the best one hands down
Love this video ❤ I am using BOJ glowing serum and I can tell my pores are smaller. Also love their eye cream but only use it at nighttime. I am 49 oily skin.

I found this new serum essence at Marshall's . Farm stay. Clear snow mucus moisture toner and snail mucus moisture Emulsion. I love it 7.99 for 5 ounce bottles. I love korean skin care. I also use the dr ceuracle. Great moisturizers.

Won't go without the BOJ Eye serum, Dr Ceuracle Vegan Kombucha Tea Essence or the Cosrx snail essence. The Heimish Cleanser was was so drying/stripping, all 3 BOJ serums weren't bad but they did nothing for my skin. I'm torn from getting the Haruharu sunscreen and the P. Calm Water Barrier Sunscreen.
those Beauty of Josan serums are beynd amazing, The Arbutin one is my fav. I combine it with the Centella ampoule from Skin1004
Numbuzin Toner 3 Super Glowing Essence definitely lives up to its name. After wetting White Rabbit Naked Cotton sheet mask stripswith this essence and placind them on my face, I cover it with one of those generic silicone masks attached behind the ears (with openings for the eyes and mouth) and leave it on for at least an hour. Remember to first fully hydrate the skin after cleansing, very important. The glowing results are amazing and last for more than a day if you spritz your face with water or lightly splash with water before moisturizing again (absolutely NO hyaluronic acid in the moisturizer).
I can't say I noticed an appreciable difference when I just used it as a toner as part of my routine, but when used as a mask the results are amazing.
I recently found a mineral spf gem! Axis-y complete no stress physical sunscreen. I also find them drying but this is the first one I used that feels somehow hydrating even and minimal whitecast
That one is very good, I tried it a few years ago and was impressed! I know they tweaked the formula since I tried it but it sounds like it's just as good!

I dont agree with some of the products but I tried many of them :) When it comes to cleanser I do really recommend the isntree green tea cleanser as well as their yam one for dry skin or as a gentle morning wash for all skin types. Both are amazing and I switched over from krave beauty. Also a recent new discovery is the benton vitamin c serum 20% - the formulation is without water and way less iritating, non oxidizing

Random but have you ever tried the celimax dual barrier line of products? I was looking thru moisturisers and toners and came across the brand. There aren’t many reviews but from what I’ve seen and heard, they sound wonderful! I love the sound of their Dual barrier milky toner and the dual barrier wearable cream- both are chock full of ceramides and appears that they would be wonderful for supporting your skin barrier. Love to know if you have ever tried them and your thoughts!

Edit: would the purito seoul - b5 panthenol re-barrier cream be in between the illiyoon & the skin1004? And May I ask if there is something similar to the illyoon? I can’t have soy ( or oats ect ) in ingredients on my face unfortunately! Thank you so much again
I haven't tried anything from Celimax yet! And I think it's fair to place Purito B5 Cream in between Skin1004 and Illyoon!
I love K beauty products. I think the Cosrx dual essence is superior to the snail essence because it feels nicer on the skin. I find the snail essence can dry out pretty quickly
I've been wanting to try that for so long. Once I'm finished with the Snail essence I'm going to get it. Just wondering what's the texture like ? Is it oily? And do you have issues with it pumping out an even amount ? A lot of reviews I've seen people complain about the pump not pumping out an even amount.
@paulayarbrough6930 the texture is not as slimy as the OG version and pretty watery. For me, the OG version feels like you leave a thin film on your skin once it dries out. That's why I prefer the dual essence. It's true the pump gives you uneven distribution of products.
i'm a male mature skin care junkie influencer that is in mid 40's and early 50's that is more focusing on well aging or anti aging and that needed more a skin care support , example brands like : AHC eyecream for face , the history of whoo , sooryehan , Dongibi , isoi , isa knox , Ihope , Ohui , or Sum37, or the saga of soo more ( hang ban skin care )

Listen this is crazy but I went to Marshalls the other day to get some gym stuff and checked the beauty section and almost everything on this list I saw at Marshalls it was nuts . It was like K beauty heaven and they had lots of good western brands too. I did order the Kaine Kombu toner from Iherb got it this morning it took 3 days to get here counting the order day so super fast.

You don't need both, however, they are different in texture and can be effectively layered in the same routine for lots of hydration.
Hi Kelly I have been using K beauty for several years now and it mostly works well with my highly reactive rosacea and eczema prone skin. Cleansing oils, toners, essences and serums mostly come from K beauty brands for me. As I have extremely dry skin I tend to find a better match in moisturiser from Western brands as I love a rich buttery cream and K beauty tends not to offer those eg the Illyoon is far too lightweight for me. SPF I stick to my longwear Ultrasun and have for more than a decade (it’s a European spf). Quite a few of the products mentioned I have tried and unfortunately some of them don’t work for me eg Dr Ceuracle and the Cosrx snail, but I like all the toners mentioned and the Benton propolis essence/serum is a favourite. Beauty of Josean serums have worked well as does their retinal eye cream. Their moisturiser is fine as a Summer pick as it sits really well under my spf btw, but it is too lightweight for my skin outwith Summer. Best wishes x

Have you tried the newer Laneige Intensive Cream (it’s the dark blue one)? SHE THICC. I picked up a mini during the Sephora sale and I’m mad at myself for not getting the full size 😩 I’ve been reaching for it over my Illiyoon and my Olehenriksen Strength Trainer

I use the Skin 1004 as a summer serum 😂 It is SO not a cream!
I think the I'm From Rice Toner is better for oily skin. My skin is more on the dry sensitive side and this actually stung my skin. I didn't find it hydrating or moisturizing. It was more of a thin watery texture but I could feel it sitting on my skin.
That's quiet interesting to hear, because my skin is dry and extremely sensitiv. I react to almost everything, but the rice toner is actually the only toner i can use. It feels so soothing and hugging:)

@@curryisgood6103my favorite toner is Paula's Choice Skin Recovery Toner ❤ It's so soothing. It's creamy but light weight and instantly absorbs. It leaves no residue at all. It might a little pricey but PC always has sales plus it's a big bottle and lasts me months. I highly recommend trying it.

I haven't tried the 5.5 foam from Soon Jung, I tried the whipped foam version and it was so drying! But I've heard 5.5 is gentler.

If you're using products with hyaluronic acid in them, that is very likely a large part of your problem. When the air is dry the hyaluronic acid sucks the moisture out of your skin. When the humidity is high, it draws the humidity from the air into your skin. Hyaluronic acid is grossly overrated and should be avoided like the plague.
Hi Kelly, how does the make prem toner treat your skin in the dry winters, since it has hyaluronic acid in it?
I avoid anything with hyaluronic acid in it like the plague. They keep talking about how it attracts moisture from the air, but if there is low or no moisture in the air, then it "attracts" it out of your skin, and everyone ignores the fact that not everyone lives in a high humidity environment. Especially in the winter. This slavish devotion to hyaluronic acid is absolutely ridiculous and it's moisturizing claims claims not borne out in real life experience.
I use it year round and love it! There really isn't that much sodium hyaluronate in it.

It sounds like it's a packaging/logo change based on some folks getting a different design on recent purchases.
Did the Illiyoon get reformulated again since it was made more occlusive and heavy? Or is that still the current formulation?
It was reformulated in 2022 to have a thicker texture with more emollients, nothing new on formula as of this comment (some people suspect it's being reformulated again because of stock issues, I haven't heard anything concrete.)

Look up some of the Dermatologist videos, like Dr Dray or others. Or simply look up skin care Ingredients Pregnant women should avoid. I know for sure you should avoid anything with Lavender in it. There is something in it that can mess with the fetus.😉

@KellyDriscoll I asked cuz it felt like u were saying these were more hydrating than the Isntree Yam. Also, how is the hydration/moisture level of the Dokdo toner compared to Isntree Yam?
If you want watery hydration go for Dokdo Toner, if you want rich heavy moisture go for Isntree. They are 2 very different toners.

The Heimish green foam dried out my skin and smelled awful. There are so many better options out there. I like the About Me rice makgeoli foaming cleanser.

Same here. It was one of the worst cleansers I've ever tried. Straight up stripped my skin and yes, it smells awful. Almost like a terrible chemical smell. It was even drying on my body, I tossed it.
Can I just remind everyone that retinol was nothing new to the Kbeauty industry. Iope was one of the first, if not the first, K beauty brand that came up with retinol back in the 90s.
