UH-1H Huey:
The utility of the Bell UH-1 series Iroquois, widely renowned as the "Huey," solidified air mobility as the primary means to insert infantry into combat environments. The Huey began arriving in South Vietnam in 1963. The UH-1H is a late variant of the Huey, the most common utility helicopter used in Vietnam. To save weight, the Slick was fitted typically with M60 machine guns used by door gunners. By the time the conflict ended, more than 5000 Hueys were introduced throughout SE Asia. The Huey was a versatile aircraft and was employed in many aspects of operation. They were used as air assault vehicles, command and control, medical evacuation, gun ships, counter-insurgency, and transport.
HH-1K Huey:
27 HH-1K Huey aircraft were produced primarily as US Navy sea/air rescue helicopters. The Sealords were flown in various missions in Vietnam: Logistics, SEAL inserts, SAR, medivac, and others as directed. The Sealords were actively involved with supporting the Seawolves, SEALS, and Riverine forces with their respective missions throughout the Mekong Delta.
AH-1S Cobra:
The Bell AH-1 Cobra is a two-blade, single-engine attack helicopter manufactured by Bell Helicopter, developed using the engine, transmission and rotor system of the Bell UH-1 Iroquois. AH-1 Cobras were in use by the Army during the Tet offensive in 1968 and through to the end of the Vietnam War. Cobras provided fire support for ground forces, escorted transport helicopters and other roles, including aerial rocket artillery (ARA) battalions in the two Airmobile divisions. They also formed "hunter killer" teams by pairing with OH-6A scout helicopters. A team featured one OH-6 flying slow and low to find enemy forces. If the OH-6 drew fire, the Cobra could strike at the then revealed enemy. On 12 September 1968, Capt. Ronald Fogleman was flying an F-100 Super Sabre when the aircraft was shot down and he ejected 200 miles north of Bien Hoa. Fogleman became the only pilot to be rescued by holding on to an Army AH-1G's deployed gun-panel door. Bell built 1,116 AH-1Gs for the U.S. Army between 1967 and 1973, and the Cobras chalked up over a million operational hours in Vietnam; the number of Cobras in service peaked at 1,081. Out of nearly 1,110 AH-1s delivered from 1967 to 1973 approximately 300 were lost to combat and accidents during the war. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
I was an instructor in the UH-1D/H for half of my Army career, and the sweet spot for the iconic popping sounds the MR made was at 70 kts, 200-300 ft/min rate of decent. Then imagine 10-15 aircraft approaching an LZ at once. That sound got the “crunchies” (ground troops) hearts pounding

I think the two Huey's are slicks. Number 1 is an Alpha Model, and the other an H.
The Huey cobra pilot have absolute control that helicopter. Amazing the way he was able to stop on a dime in mid-air.

I just love that sound of the Huey. Very familiar from movies, games and of course from the real world when they were used quite prominently as rescue choppas in Germany.

I'm sorry about the audio and not being able to hear the helicopters. Some pesky piston-powered warbirds were getting ready for the next act and had taxied into position right in front of me. Next year I'll find a better spot. I love the sound of these helicopters!
I think that it is rude for the people who put on this display to tell the pilots of the Warbirds to start the planes
@@michaelcorbeil9719 not rude at all, it's just how it works. I was near the hot ramp where everything starts up, so once they all started up they were right by me. It's still way better than being near the speakers.

We used to call the Cobra RTT's "Coordination Maneuvers" :)
None are still in active deployment service however there are still a few operational UH1 at fort Polk used for JRTC as OPFOR aircraft I think 🤔 at least there was a few years ago because we have potential enemies still have some variants in service

Back around 1988 - 1995, I remember seeing an advertisement in _"TRADE-A-PLANE"_ {or something similar} for a restored Bell AH-1 Cobra. Price: $5,000,000.00 {5 million USD}.
If I had not been $4,999,999.99 short at the time, I would have purchased it...🤭

@fight2flyphoto >>> Maybe it is just a camera _parallax_ issue or something, but in the first part of the video it looks like the UH-1 closest to the camera has more of an 'angle' built into the main rotor mast than the other UH-1.
Seems such a waste to have the Cobra go up, with an empty seat.....

How much faster was the cobra compared to a slick ?
A slick just over 150 mph depending on the model . A Cobra over 170 mph. Apparently the Cobra could exceed 200 mph in a shallow dive.

Any AH-1G's still flying that can be used?
There are still many AH-1F's out there. I think Pakistan operates them. G models are likely museum pieces at this point (possibly flying museums but don't know).

Well it’s not Usually an (HH-1K) it’s usually mostly called (Bell XH-40)
Only in the commercial capacity would it be called the Bell anything. The Navy would use the government designated variant of H-1.

The Vietnamese always said they sounded like tractors, every once in a while I'll hear one and it takes me back.
