I think a big problem with stars is that Adam Silver has been seperating the NBA from college basketball. Back in the day they used to build up collegiate players to be stars the same way it's done in football.
What I hear nobody talk about is how it’s often very hard to legally watch games. During the MLB season whenever you turn the TV on there’s probably a game on that you can watch from anywhere in the country. Meanwhile with the nba unless you sign up for league pass you only get 4 or 5 national games a week. There’s local games but if you’re a fan of another team then you either have to fork over a bunch of extra money or just hope they get a national broadcast.
Was about to explain my thoughts but you said my exact thoughts, teams all play the same, there’s no identity. There used to be lob city, ball moving spurs. The physical grizzlies with zbo and gasol etc, but now every team just shoots threes, no mid no post, barely any dunks. Maybe they should move the 3 point line back further so only the real elite shooters make them consistently
Also, all of the young stars being foreign or not playing in college makes it less likely for them to have fans before entering the league. So, if they go to a team I don’t root for or don’t see on prime time I don’t care about them
to me it’s just like watching the same things. back and forth get it in the bucket. there could be some good shots, passes, blocks, etc in there and i’d just be like “wow that’s crazy.” only really fun in the post season
I am from Brasil and the fact is i can't watch all the games, because here the lakers games end so late and doesn't seems to matter that much. I started watching nfl this year and after learning a bit of the game it looks so much unique and exciting.
Me personally I’m a hockey guy. There is less scoring but I think that’s a good thing at least for me. It makes scoring feel more significant compared to basketball where no matter how bad a team loses they will still score a bunch of points.
For me it’s because they blackout all the Cavs games in my area. You have to sign up for a stupid app (fan duel formerly ballys) and I’m not doing that.
My problem with the whole indentity thing too is that players move around too much, there’s too much money being thrown around and it’s making it hard to follow every little thing. Like I havent really watched basketball since the Derrick Rose Bulls and I’m trying to watch but its just not appealing anymore. The Finals used to be so fun to watch with family, now I legit just dont care. Like I said theres just too much going on. It feels like Star Wars over the last 5-10 years where you need to have watched every single side thing to understand the lore. But yeah the identity thing for me is the biggest. Like I dont even know what teams are good anymore and I dont even know whos on what teams. You made many great points in this video, thank you for the insight! 👍
Warriors helped in the nba from 2015-2019 they were so dynamic and as a warriors fan since 2010 it was so good watching the warriors be so dominant because before they were a team that never had many excitement
The college product is just better. if you like watching basketball for the strategy the physicality or the atmosphere the college game wipes the nba. Pretty much every measure of the game. The only reason i could think to watch the nba is it’s more polished. But nowadays barely even that. like you said it’s AAU now 50+ 3s a game or just unguarded layups and free throws.
What if the NBA converted their scoring to 4s and 5s. Now instead of long shots being worth 150% more than short shots, they're only worth 125% more. Gameplay would level out. Free throws would be worth 2pts. Shooting fouls would result in 1 free throw and possesion.
I think it’s time for new teams and more draft positions it seems too limited also the tv blackouts and the fact that it’s becoming a tad political and I’m even if you like that half of USA doesn’t so there goes a huge chunk of that viewership
It’s a lot of things. Too many games while football is still on. Stars I grew up with aren’t on good teams. 3 pointers being the only focus. Games being called way too soft. Stoppage time being horrible at end of games.
I feel conflicted because Curry single-handedly changed a majority of the game to become mostly a 3 point contest, making games more predictable/less physical. At the same time tho, I love players like Dame/Trae Young who can drop absolute bombs efficiently, so idk lmao. I just want driving allowed to be more physical again so we can see more tough layups/dunks like before (I know a lot of rule changes were for safety, but damn it's made some games BORING 😂😂).
I think people might realize that the games don't mean as much since there are 82 games, and even in the playoffs, the first couple of games of a series don't matter all that much
Another thing is the over-saturation of international players. Don’t get me wrong, some of the foreign-born players are my favorites-but it’s become a problem. Jokic has arguably been the only thing worth watching in the NBA for 5+ years, and Americans need some American heroes too.
I've heard similar sentiment with the decline of boxing in the United States. People tend to want to cheer for people from their same country, for better or for worse.
the face of the league convo and old players being the biggest draw is simple to me. how can you only push one generation of players for years. they can say whatever they want about commercials or ad deals but the only people that play national TV games are the old guard of stars. it’s been that way for 10 years too. Hell start marketing these dudes before they even get drafted the kids make money now lol. people don’t know who the best player on small market teams are until they get knocked out in the second round
MLB has actually seen a spike in viewership. They listened to their fans and made changes. Speed clock sped up the game. Larger bases to increase stealing. Pitchers not able to pitch out to try and pick a guy off more than a couple times.
Too much scoring, and not enough variation in outcomes. You know a guy is going to come down the court, pass the ball a few times, run a play or two, then shoot. Baseball and football have WAYYY more potential outcomes. Football - sack, interception, run play, pass play, TD, FG, etc. Baseball - walk, strikeout, hit, double, error, etc. Watching the SAME PREDICTABLE thing over and over again is very boring.
I don’t watch cause it’s almost impossible to watch nba games unless you own every streaming app possible . Yes there’s stream east but something about being 3 mins behind a live game just makes me not want to watch. Also I was a huge John wall and wizards fan and we suck so that’s a reason lol
The regular season is too long and watered down. I mean you got 20 out of 30 teams make the playoffs now. And that’s including the usual 4-5 teams that are purposely tanking.
For me its the constant interruptions. Anytime it feels like a team is building some momentum the opponents call a timeout and then the next 10 minutes are dancers/mascot/tshirt toss before finally getting back to the game. feels like they do this every 5 minutes.. Im here to watch basketball, not the mascot do tricks. And then when they finally do get back to playing the ref just keeps blowing the whistle
The sort of joke I suppose is that the last 2 minutes of an NBA game take half an hour. Between the timeouts, the intentional fouls, commercial breaks, etc. It takes all the wind out of the sails at the end of the game.
Lack of effort and passion from way too many players, too much conformity of style of play, way too many unlikable personalities dominating the league, and way way way too much liberal politics being shoved down viewers throats. I got so damn sick of Steve Kerr, Gregg Popovich and Lebron lecturing everyone on social issues.
I would argue, though, that the NFL has been even more vocally political and their viewership has been spiking! Definitely could be a factor for some, though.
@@DaftRaincloud NFL has died down a ton in the past year on the politics because people watch sports to get away from that kinda stuff. Also football is a sport in America that will always have good ratings
For me it’s the fact there’s so many games, that if I watch a game the win/loose factor doesn’t keep me as excited as the NFL or even NCAA hoops
Same thought i have with the MLB. I don’t have enough time in a week to watch one game, let alone 3-4.
I mean, same can be said with pretty much every other major sport besides football.
@@DTLions26
And every sport has miniscule numbers compared to football lol

I think it’s the problem with having such a big and long season where in the end the regular season matches don’t really matter at all.

So much info and detail. This dude is legendary work I swear every video is thought out
I try my best when I can. Thank you for the nice words.

How come people in hockey use that as angry enemy against ⚽️ when you just used it for hockey 😂😂😂 y’all hypocrites even though I’m a leafs fan

Tbh when it comes to luka hes nice asf but hes just losing athleticism, his knees are giving out a lil early
I just think it’s boring. I’d much rather watch my Auburn tigers play college ball.
War Eagle
War Damn buddy! Johni is gonna take us home!!!
The home of the great Charles Barkley!

Is every sport in America/Canada dying minus the nfl I always hear the nhl and mlb are dying but never the premier league champions league or NFL

That's true! They're looking very good even with Chet out.
