I'm one of the local home-owners who live less than 3km away from where the burnouts were performed.
Despite the hooning, the crowd is so well behaved, even if loud and proud, that Summer Nats have earned a lot of goodwill over the years. Ok, it took awhile crowds were riotous initially, but they've been cool for the last decade or more. Still petrol heads, but less drunken stupidity, more technical expertise and pride in appearance of their street machines. A good bunch, and if they get a little wild at times, they're not assholes.

Meanwhile they were trying their hardest to rid Canberra of the Summernats. Went to many lived in Canberra for donkeys yrs and the best nats were the 1st few yrs.

Ian true story in 2003 spring nats in shepparton Victoria, I was driving my tractor though the town to get to the other farm, just before sunset, lots of people on the streets watch all the cars parading up and down the main street. And I the imposter driving my tractor was getting the most support and cheers. Well that's my 15 minutes of fame. Keep up the good work.
My mum taught me to do burnouts in her HZ Premier right after I got my licence.
But I had to break the news to her that my sister had already taught me in her VB Commodor.
I tend to prefer doing burnouts off road in my GQ Patrol (lifted 4x4).

Fortunately, a lot of the car culture here in the States is starting to reach that point. People are realizing, "Man, I didn't used to care for these, but _this guy_ made something cool." - and it snowballs from there.

at 3:45 i know who owns that van the imported it to australia and fixed it up he has done over 25cars in restoring and they have only missed 2 summernates in there life time (uncle and aunty) they are huge burnout family

The little "hammertime" lifted 4x4 is a Daihatsu Feroza, known as a Rocky in the U.S. As an owner of a Feroza, I was quite proud of its 4th place position. Good exposure for these little known beasts

I mean I'm an Aussie, I know Summer Nats...but seeing you just love it so much makes it even better.
Our car Culture has always been insane. I myself built a Trophy Winning 1974 Celica Back in the day, I wish I still had it. It was clean, debadged, I built a fully worked, blueprinted Turbo Twin Cam. Running small block Chevy pistons & valves, ported & polished head with lumpy cams. Celica 5 speed gearbox was awesome, BMW modified clutch...it was a 1600cc but I don't know the capacity in the end. It had about 250bhp at the rear wheels and used to destroy everything, V8 , rotary...unless I met another modified car....them hit or miss. Anyway, cool video. Lot of fun.

I thoroghly enjoyed summernats this year, here in Canberra we've been in and out of lockdowns with all events cancelled for the last 2 years... it was awesome to finally get back into some action!

Another Rad Review mate!! As soon as we get our license here (16 and a Half) the Burnout is the first item we practice on our own :) Back in my day (I'm Mid 40's now) we started off in a Holden Gemini or Ford Escort then progress to Rotaries or a V6 or V8 ..The End..

@@IWrocker it's a mad event, personally haven't been since no.19 , unfortunately lived too far away for a lot of yrs and just haven't had the finances (It's an expensive trip even just to spectate).
Been trying since no.16 to get a car there but looks like I finally might if I can get my car finished this yr 🤞, doable if I can stay motivated and nothing major goes wrong this yr 🤞, only major things it needs is an exhaust system and a tune but I've gotta get a welder and a new daily driver as well, it's nothing as exciting as those blown monsters but I'll have to make do with my baby turbo v6 89 vn commodore but the cool thing about summernats is that they accept all builds and just being there finally after all these yrs will be awesome, I've got a couple of mates entering too so will doubley awesome 👌

Thanks for the memories!! i grew up in Canberra and back then it Summernats went from Boxing Day until New Years Day and it was THE BEST!! Everyone was awesome and happy. No fights. At the end of the week they had the Northbourne Ave street parade and there we'd sit on the side of the road cheering and drinking until it was time to go to The Private Bin or Subway or Dickson Tradies lololol
The night after going to Summernats all you will hear in your head while trying to sleep is burnouts, possibly even the day after 🤣

Hi Ian Sumernats is held in Canberra every year and that's the main street they are driving down..no skyscrapers we have a building height restriction but we have a ton of trees and are known as the bush capital.. and yes we definitely have kangaroos in the suburbs.

Lol yeah mate took you long enough to check out Summernats lol. We learn burnouts at a fairly young age as it's a bit of a cultural thing. Very common to hear someone shredding tyres on a Friday or Saturday night.

That white LC Torana is the highlight here. A restored to original classic. It's literally worth upwards of $80,000 now. The owner is a genuine Holden guy who's owned other Holden's. I like that.
I'm a canberran and for the 4 days of summernats every year this place goes off like a frog in a sock. It used to be held over new years, but they moved it cos there used to be some trouble with people drinking too much and causing a ruckus. Definitely recommend everyone goes to summernats at least once in their lifetime

He hit some bad road (corrugating) through a fence, over an irrigation channel, and fractured sternum, 3 fractured ribs and a broken spine. The idiot walked out 100 yards to the road. 😂😂😂😂
