On the Democratic front (haven’t seen Republicans yet) I would say Sweeney is overly tied to the status quo, Fulop comes off as a prick let’s be honest, Spiller is well rehearsed though seems a bit vague at times, and Baraka (in my view) comes off as articulate and well meaning. That’s just my assessment for the Democrats thus far. As for the two other major candidates (Gottheimer and Sherrill) I would say, Gottheimer is just a massive ego maniac who comes off as someone who is a finger in the wind politician. As for Sherrill in theory she sounds like a dream candidate and though I do admit she’s a strong candidate for me she’s overly obsessed with discussing federal issues as opposed to statewide issues. I totally get that if she was running for reelection in the house, but for Governor it just seems like a placeholder spot for a presidential or vice presidential spot in 2028
Baraka acknowledges (a few times) that too much corporate funding and payouts to the wealthy need to END within the current D. party - no one else touches this issue. He is also super knowledgable about the education system. He’s a former educator in the public school system. Knows we need a higher minimum wage NOW, based on affordability and expenses in NJ. Baraka gives off vibes of genuine integrity vs. just campaign rhetoric:) Spiller just sounds like he’s memorized campaign rhetoric right before the show:( Anyone who’s been around for a while knows Sweeney well enough to know he would be a bad choice.
@25:00 thank you Sweeney for saying the quiet part out loud which is south jersey is seriously neglected in public transportation. I am a frequent user of nj transit in south jersey so 50 points for that
I appreciate this conversation on the Democratic side to see how insanely radical they are. School racial segregation has been banned since 1947 in our State Constitution. Communities should be allowed to maintain their cultures. Wildwood with their zone looks. Sussex County with their farms and mountain houses. Newark with their urban density. But don't force communities to look like your communities. That is mono-culture we should reject.
School racial segregation is banned de jure, but de facto segregation still exists due to policies like redlining which have had a profound, long-term impact on defining communities by wealth. Black people are still significantly poorer than white people. Ultimately you have to get at the root of the issue and work on policies that will alleviate the massive wealth disparity we have. Then the racial wealth disparity will improve. No one is suggesting "forcing" communities to look like other communities. You talk about maintaining cultures, and then you say we should reject mono-culture? The examples you give (Wildwood and Sussex) are heavily white. They are far more "mono-culture" than the more densely populated parts of the state. So are you saying those heavily white mono-culture areas should be changed? You just sound like you are afraid of mixing races. Are you afraid of mixing races? The KKK opposed race mixing. Do you support the KKK by any chance? Lastly, what about the discussion in the video was "insanely radical"? Can you provide time stamps of what exactly sounds "insanely radical" to you? Just so we're clear.
I've never heard of Steve Fulop before he put his hat in the ring. He mentioned the carrot and stick approach. Which when I've complained about rent to older folks that own their home they immediately object with drawing down municipality resources. Schools that are almost already maxed have to find a way to accommodate more students. But that can be a challenge especially if the lot the school is constrained on land. If we're building more affordable units. I'm not sure the composition of those units. But if it brings in people that require more services than normal that also has to be taken into consideration because nobody wants to live around poor people. I'm generally more of policy focused but it seems like people care more about vibes recently.
Funny because Sweeney, who is present here, has gotten a shitton of endorsements from South Jersey. He’s also raised almost 2.2 million dollars which beats baraka by over 1.6 million. Several of the other candidates have gotten endorsements from mayors and county officials in the south.
Mayor Baraka made some very good points in moving New Jersey forward. Pretty impressive...

Durr doesn’t really want it. Keeps pointing at Bramnick without really noticing he’s doing that.

All those senator need to take a pay cut. No one wants to speak on that

Sweeney was mad because he was kicked out of government
Just more of the same old party lackey boxed set the north Jersey Democratic machine pumps out.

@@i_am_anxious02 It's still the party bosses who will decide which left wing clown will be governor. Every Dem named supported the Murphy regime.
