With Masculin Pluriel, I find it perfectly simplistic. I’ve found that once a fragrance reaches perfection, there is no need to add more notes to try and make it something it’s not meant to be. Furthermore, I’ve come to realize that just because a fragrance is more complex doesn’t necessarily make it better. The quality is obvious and purpose it set out to achieve is unmatched.

Exactly! You don’t always need to do more than is needed.

I need that Tom Ford it would be the number one, was a little surprised in a good way to say Viking at the number two spot. And I definitely got a step up my barber shop game, a lot of these I’ve never even heard of!

Yeah those two are so solid, I would feel comfortable wearing them in basically any situation. Yeah man you need to check out Sartorial and Jet Set from beach Geeza.

Well done! I enjoyed this countdown my man. I def need to grab a couple of these soon. I think the fougere is the ideal masculine year round signature scent for me. Office friendly, not off putting, and super versatile. Lavender also happens to be one of my favorite notes.

You are one of the few people I've seen mention a Beach Geeza fragrance. I have Coco Moon, and man is that stuff good! Super, super strong, probably the strongest fragrance I have. I've smelled it on me 48 hours after application with a shower in between. I need to try his other fragrances like Jet Set

    • @northwestscent9455
      @northwestscent9455  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I hope to eventually own all of the fragrances from them, I agree though Coco Moon is one of the best! Yes if you like aromatic fougeres that lean soapy, you need to try jet set.

Very true about Russian Leather. Still in my top 3 from Memo. And BdJ of course a true winner. Have a decant of the original from the private line bottle that I've been hoarding like gold. 😄 Such a good frag.

Beau de Jour! Sartorial! Bracken Man! Viking!
Love your review and immediately subscribed! Let me start with Bracken Man. Very similar to The Granddaddy of Them All - Houbigant Fougere Royale (2010), which I personally include in my top 10. Very earthy deep green. So earthy in fact it's as if they took the fern's roots with soil and mud still clinging, along with the deep verdant Green of the fern frond itself. Absolutely fantastic. More earthy than the Houbigant remake but similar. I don't really consider either one of these very "barbershopy" though. Not like most in my Fougere collection, which seems to suggest that the Fougere evolved some since its 1882 classic founding. I think your reference to "the soapy, clean direction" identifies the "barbershop" sub-classification of fougeres. Funny thing with Bracken Man: it could be named "Jimmy Hoffa's Resting Place" because it smells like a marsh or swamp - traditional dumping ground for mob hits. Lol.
Viking. I don't consider Viking a full-on fougere. More of a Spicy Oriental with lavender. It does have some Fougere elements, like the lavender for instance. But overall the note structure seems more Spicy Oriental. Which incidentally is what classic Old Spice is (world'sfirst for men). But I don't think Viking is as close to Old Spice as many do. Its overall vibe is closer to a bay rum (without the rum) to me. An easygoing, sweet-spicy (and very mentholated in Viking's case), everyday wear kind of sent. I think Bois du Portugal would qualify as more of a Fougere than Viking. With more prominent woods, elevating the scent to greater elegance. As I tell people, Bois du Portugal may be "an old man in a barbers chair" and dated, but that old man is Frank Sinatra, and when he leaves the barbershop he'll be meeting Sophia Loren at a 5 star restaurant. In fact, I do have BdP's near-clone, Lalique Pour Homme lion, in my barbershop Fougere collection.
Sartorial. My #2 "barbershop" Fougere in my barbershop Fougere collection. Interestingly created to replicate the olfactory charm of a specific London tailor shop, it does double duty as a near-perfect barbershop scent. Aldehydes, beeswax, honey to replicate steam from the shop's steam press. Steam is clean.
Beau de Jour. My #1 barbershop Fougere in my collection also. #5 overall. But it is different from most of the others. A Fougere like Rive Gauche Pour Homme can almost be characterized as smelling like actual products your barber would spray/dab on the back of your neck. BdJ seems like an abstraction of that. Very concentrated, kind of "perfumy", it's like a minty lavender shaving foam explodes on your face, with beautiful aromatic contributions. A truly unique and beautiful take on the barbershop Fougere.
Other frags near the top of my barbershop Fougere collection:
    - Tom Ford Fougere D'Argent
    - MDCI Invasion Barbare
    - YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme
    - MMM Replica Series At the Barbers
    - Davidoff Zino
    - Drakkar Noir
    - Azzaro Pour Homme
And again, at the top of my non barbershop Fougeres, Fougere Royale and Bracken Man.

Beach geeza jet set! Awesome fragrance!
I recently acquired a vintage EAU SAUVAGE PARFUM vintage from the 2012 to 2015 before reformulated in 2017" for a reasonable price ( thankfully after so many year's searching lol ) and honestly have to say there is no comparison! Some reviews said after awhile the 2017 batch dried down to what the 2012 smelled like and there totally wrong! Lol. Straight from the beginning of the 2012 batch it's a darker citrus on top and the dry down is this heavenly creamy myrrh with a touch of sweetness absolutely beautiful. The 2017 from the beginning a bright citrus and remains pretty bright throughout the fragrance life in the deep dry down you'll get some sweetness. If you really love eau Sauvage Parfum you need to hunt down 2012 to at least 2015 batches

Like I mentioned that 2017 batches don't hold a candle on the 2012 to 2016 formulation " everyone trying to buy my bottle and offering me all sorts of Roja parfums fragrances for it. Lol. Eau Sauvage Parfum early formulation is a true masterpiece in my opinion for sure
