I am 18, and I wear pleated dress trousers with a high rise and a 2" inch cuff and side adjustors, and nobody has called me an old man for wearing it. A few people even asked me where I got those trousers from, and they complimented the look.
I think that a trouser's slihouette is the most important aspect in making it look good. Looser and fuller cuts look good with heavier weight fabrics and there is a thin line between having flattering drape and having your trousers flap around due to excess material. My trousers have a fuller cut compared to your trousers and I opt for a 7" leg opening whilst yours was below 7". And I am quite slim at 5'8.5" and 145lbs so a 7" ankle opening flatters me. It's the perfect middle ground between drape and having clean lines for my body type. You described your trouser fit as "tapered fit" and my trousers have more of a "modern fit". Either way, I am lucky to have found tailors who create custom clothing for me at a very low price, and your videos provide me the knowledge I need to excel in my style choices. Thank you.

      @DemetriosLevi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Dude, that's awesome! I remeasured my trousers and they actually are 7" so we're closer in our preferences than I thought! I agree it's the perfect middle ground for our body type. You are very lucky to have good tailors in you can rely on...that always makes things better! Thank you for the support brother

I am 21 now, and I still wear high-rise trousers, except that now I opt for 8.5 inch ankle opening with a much fuller cut and a much heavier fabric.
It suits me since I have gained mass in my upper body and now I weigh 154lbs.

If you’re into pleats don’t forget to look at second hand and thrift stores. You might be able to find a pair to try out the look without dropping a ton of money.
I agree with the high waisted part. If the pants don’t sit on your natural waist, the pleats are more likely accordion out even when you’re standing, which isn’t a good look. Cuffs also help to add weight and make them drape better.

What an awesome look and style. The thing about high-waist pants is, you wanna see them, right, because they look so great, and the profile is so amazing? I mean, you should probably wear a tucked-in shirt or a a shorter sweater, or even (*gulp*) a tucked-in sweater. But I'd imagine being in _relatively_ good shape goes some distance toward making this a stellar look. You look spectacular, though, truly.

  • @ericpapaclarinet

I actually go full vintage and wear high rise pleated trousers that are wide in the leg (think 10" open at the cuff when lying flat). If the pants are cut well and you are confident in the look, you don't look like a "grandpa".
Pants that are cut wide and straight in the leg can also be more comfortable to wear in warmer weather. In "To Catch a Thief", Cary Grant opens the movie by wearing grey flannels in a warm climate. Normally these would be way too warm to wear, but he can do it because the fabric is draping instead of hugging his leg. When combined with a shorter hem, the fabric takes the sun off the skin while allowing air to circulate in the leg (note: This really works well in dry heat. If the humidity is high, it doesn't really matter what you wear. You're gonna sweat!)
In general, I see many people lean toward tapering the trouser leg because they are scared of looking old. If you get a pair that fits and drapes nicely, you might be surprised with how they look.

First of all, TH-cam and their algorithm has to have something against you! That’s the only explanation as to why you haven’t blown up. Keep being the incredible story teller you are!
Secondly, I’ve just picked up my first couple and waiting for them to arrive (from Natalino and Ralph Lauren). I purchased them due to my not-skipping-leg-day legs - my concern is my body proportions... which has been the reason why I’ve held off for so long, and I’m hoping that that waiting doesn’t turn out to be justified. My torso is short compared to the length of my legs, so a high rise will be very interesting to see...

@@DemetriosLevi So... first things first quick Natalino thoughts - quality of materials?. perfect. Quality of fit?.. Top notch. Quality of manufacture?. Probably at par, or slightly below expected honestly. Plenty of loose stitches and tack stitches didn’t seem that strong. But that being said, I won’t be returning them or putting anyone off them anytime soon, and because I only got a single pair, it might have been a once off :) Value for money seems like a solid proposition, just would like their shipping to be a little bit cheaper... it might make more people willing to give them a crack - ~$50 to send to Aus? Ouch
As for how they look on me, I find that from the side view they look fantastic, from the front, it does look a little weird - but I guess that’s due to us so used to mid and low rise pants cutting our body in half. I will be 100% comfortable wearing them with a jacket, or with open knitwear (ie. like a shawl collar cardigan) - but will see how comfortable I get over time with just the trousers and a shirt :)

Pleats could still make the baggy trousers look slimmer by shaping and splitting the leg in two parts and playing with light and shades. Moreover, the pleat going from the hem to the waist is underlining the length of the leg. Also, it can make the trousers look a bit more classic or dressier. But for pure practicality, I agree that it is quite redundant.

Your videos are excellent. Even though your closet isn't as varied as other TH-camrs, I still manage to draw so much style inspiration from you. On a separate note, I would add in 3:16 that such an aggressive taper is only practical for a sockless or non-OTC sock look. As a shorter guy, I am struggling to find the sweet spot between having a fitted knee/hem and having enough calf space so that the trousers do not cling on to my OTC socks.

I’m older and remembers hen all dress pants had pleats. But I’m flexible and can wear the same clothes the younger men are wearing. Much of it like brands like Stussy, we were wearing it when we were in our 20’s and Joe the second time around.
Anyway, I just saw a Armani Exhange single slim reverse pleated wool pants for cheap on eBay. I was wondering the reason why it went out of style and now I know bc they are now considered old men’s pants. Well, some of us old men were the style leaders of our generation and I can still out dress many that are half my age with the Zara and H&M Abundance clones everywhere that think they have style.
So thanks for the video and I may have to pick up those Amani Exchange pleated pants and have to change it up and before everyone else starts wearing that look when their peers approve.
