Cyclocross technique lesson 4: Bunnyhopping stuff

- Pretty much the coolest thing you can do in cyclocross is bunnyhop barriers. The crowd loves it -- whether you succeed or fail. Not everyone can consistently and safely bunnyhop barriers, but the same skills are useful for getting over curbs, stairs, rocks and roots without losing speed or damaging your bike.

I love these videos. I'll never be able to bunnyhop in a million years but this stuff is so inspiring to watch. Can't wait to get out on the bike again.
This has been excellent. Thank you!
Well done. I like this particular video and some other stuff at your channel
I laughed so hard. Priceless.
Just practice over road speed humps, there's nothing for your rear wheel to to get hung up on or bounced off of. Gradually let your body language get more animated as your confidence grows and you'll be able to get higher, it is easier to learn on a XC bike but when clipped in it's exactly the same process just with a little less room to play with and therefore a little less height that you'll be able to get off the ground. Watch the pro's whose skills you want to emulate over and over again in slow motion and visualise yourself doing it too so that instinct can play more of a roll Jumping's not for everyone though, so If you still really struggle with this then work on the smoothness of your dismounts and remounts instead. it's better for the soul to be great a something than average at everything.
i honestly dont know why everyone disliked this. i was making a joke. good to see someone got it
These videos are great. Kris totally looks like a cycling version of Nick Offerman. I like it.
Can I bunny hop with 700x32 tires? Or I need thicker ones to avoid damaging the rim?
i wasn't trying to troll but it does amuse me that so many people were offended.
I can't see the point of fixed barriers. It seems it's mostly for seeing people fall, and possible hurt themself. I would like to see barriers with a spring. This would make the barrier fold down if you hit them, and if you do, you get a time penalty (like a small penalty round). It would make it much more safe and you could see more bunnyhopping than today. Just a thought...
Is it harder to bunnyhop on these bikes? Maybe because of the toptube position or the chainstay length?
I laughed so hard. You're awesome- fuck that other guy. I approve of that trolling AND the usefulness of this video because the dimensions of a cyclo cross or road bike make it rather awkward for anyone who is used to basically yanking the bike into the air(read: many bmx/mtb riders' method). Cyclo cross hops are supposed to be done while moving as fast as possible for the most advantage, so it is more like front to back endoing, so to speak. Troll props and explanation. Shit's hard.
Здорова из России ! :)
It's a lot easier to bunnyhop on a bike with flat handle bars. I built my first flat-bar road bike last year, and it is a lot more comfortable and agile. I don't use it for long trips, but it is easier to ride around town.
But do I have to bind to mwheelup or not?
No one will get your Diablo reference here :P. good job though
cam12win Diablo? lol?
What game were you talking about? I can only think of Diablo where that would be useful?
cam12win CSGO or any valve game
+Yaka95 Damn you. Someone beat me to the reference.. Just spammed my friendlist.. Told them to close their eyes,, and tell me what they are talking about.. Valve thinks running is like biking...
👍
Guys on MBs dod it all the time.
waiting you to taco that thin wheel
I can see myself crashing in a race (and destroying a front wheel)....Jeff Lenosky, that guy is sick when it comes to his bunny hops and his control. If you search his name and add JORBA, you get to see a full demo, with local strongman (& mountain biker), The Human Vise.
yeah i sometimes ride with MTBers and they definetly see it more as a "cruise" than a race. That said, if the terrain is too bad or too steep a CX bike just wont cut it...
Sweet vid, is the host Johnny Knoxville"s brother??
these guys have my full repsect, because they are not jumping with mountainbikes (completely different body positions and smaller wheels)
It is a lot harde what they are doing
the thing is most people touch the barrier with the rear wheel while bunnyhopping. that wouldnt be possible with spring barriers.
i find that unless the terrain is very heavy and hard to ride, mountain bikers usually cannot really beat ppl on cyclocross bikes, I see this all the time when I meet some MTB's in the forrest/mountains. Not sure if that is due to training, or ideology or that just be bikes make it easier to reach higher speeds...
America already has too many safety regulations on everything. I say let it be, I've been cycling for a long time, I've been hit by cars, fell off my bike, got into fights, ate concrete, and I'm still riding. I don't want to sound cocky but I just think it's part of the game. Cyclocross isn't supposed to be a mamby pamby cute little bike ride. Cyclocross is rough and tough, and it should remain that way!
I can hop about 70-80cm on my bmx but I cant get these damn things off the ground at all..
Bunnyhopping on a CX bike is way different than on a MTB or BMX. I ride MTB and BMX and still find it difficult to bunnyhop on my CX bike because the position is a lot different.
i know, i can b hop 3 feet on a good day, but i can hop barely an inch on my commuter cx
let's see you jump an obstacle with that geometry
I'm MTB guy. how can a wheel as narrow as this urvive? Dosnt the clipless some what danger to your ankles? NICE SKILL!
and that's high! all consider.
so you have to carry your bike thorugh parts of cyclocross races? cool.. i guess..
alessio dhoore jumps over 58 centimeter
Easy. But I Just have to loose 20 Kg to do it
Nice mustache
easiest to learn on a bmx or small mtb
@kwestwood please allow my video response it will help your viewers learn bunny hops with bmx bikes to!
I wonder what the downhill guys think of this bunny hopping. Haha. I'm not saying it's not impressive. It just seems a bit small compared to what downhill bikers do
idiot, don’t compare CC and XC bikes geometry with DH bikes geometry. Just try to bunny hop on XC racing bike with high seattube and shut up, moron.
It's really hard to do on a road/cx bike that's setup for riding fast.
benjamin reynolds I was able to do it after a few attempts, and can do wheelies on them too. Although the fact I ride downhill has nothing to do with it.
Pavlo Klepei Thank you...
Seriously? No everybody has the skill. Practice and technique.
Fair enough but I can't even lift the front wheel..
Might have to do with my short torso though.

That makes no sense. Before commenting, research cyclo cross. Part of the sport's allure is its difficulty, you putz. It is understandable that some may not understand how hard things that aren't flashy are so enjoyable for others, but even the dullest person should be able to figure it out when the point of something is for it to be fuckin' hard.
exactly why am i so dumb?
I ride MTB/trials and MTB riders look at the ride as a cruise on the trail VS you guys are looking to beat a time or cover the most ground. Define "very heavy and hard to ride" I would think what you are calling hard to ride maybe me thinking the trail is getting good. However yes the bike is going to help on smooth trails. In short you are comparing apples to oranges. We are looking for different things out of are bikes. Anyway I wish you life behind bars and have fun.
and take all of the real risk and excitement out of the sport? I think not
That would be much less entertaining for one, 2) less thrilling as a rider, 3) Whoever finishes first might not even be the real winner.. This would make watching the finish line arbitrary, you'd have to stand around and wait for the actual results and try to figure out who was who.
Wrong!
Dont shift your weight forward, you shift it back, forcing the front end down and the back end up
Then land
And move on
It may FEEL like you're shifting your wieght forward. But you are not
wheelie hop is easier
its not that hard, especially with clip in pedals. And the bikes they use are really light making it much easier then your standard mtb or whatever.
i know how to bunny hop a mountain bike but what the hell is this? bunny hopoping on a road bike? nonsense
Improper bunny hoping leads to your front tire hitting first, this man does not know what he is speaking about.
