    Miniature painter here! I noticed how you said sometimes the paint won't really "take" to the leather and will come off. I may know why this happens. Pigment size. Different paints have different pigment sizes. The smaller the pigment grind the more expensive the paint, but also the more evenly it paints. Also, the pigment size is what determines how much color stays on porous objects, such as leather, and skin. This is how I figured this out.
    I was doing some basic crafting, helping my mother with some projects, and she had this super cheap paint called apple barrel from walmart. Sure, great stuff for simple projects, it's wonderful, and it washes off your hand real easily! When I paint figures I am using Scale 75 or Vallejo acrylic paints, and when you get this stuff on your hands it DOES NOT WASH OFF EASILY! That color will stick around for a few days! These paints more more expensive, and the pigment grind is much smaller than something like apple barrel.
    I think if you were to get your hands on some actual miniature paints like Vallejo, Scale 75, or even Army Painter, you'd open up a whole new world of leather painting for yourself.
    Also, I did my first ever leather key chain 3 weeks ago, did some stamping and carving, painted it up and it came out great using the mini paints. Gave this to a friend for his birthday and he has been using it ever since. Saw him just the other day, and the color on the key ring looks as good as it did when I gave it to him, and he had no complaints about the paint coming off on his hand or in his pocket. I dunno if that means much, but just food for thought.

      @@AttackLineLeather These dyes you do still want to water down a little. When painting a miniature I water them down 1:1 with flow extender, but for your purpose I think 1 part paint to 2 parts water would be perfect.

    Do you use mostly Fiebings Pro Dye and the Angelus paints? That's a good tip on watering the paints, I find on some colors of the Angelus it either goes on well or clumps up. I like the design! Thanks for the video. I still struggle with antique. It dries funky but I haven't applied my Tan Kote as liberally as you have yet, so I'll give that a try!
    Side question: Do you discard a dauber after each use? I mostly use sponges (except for applying Antique) because it feels like such a waste to use a new dauber for each project. I find that if I just let them dry they get really hard, and if I try to clean them in water, I need to apply too much 'pressure' or rub too much, so it kind of destroys the dauber real quick.

    • @AttackLineLeather
      @AttackLineLeather  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the support. Yes I use a new dauber per application of antique, however, when I do antique, I generally am doing several projects at once soo the dauber goes a long way. I'll need to try the sponge meathod. Thanks for the comment

    Hello!
    Can Fiebibg's RTC Resistbe be used as a final finish such as Tan Kote ? And, can Tan Kote be used as a resist , such as Fiebing's RTS Resist? Please answer both questions.
    Eddie Hodges

    • @AttackLineLeather
      @AttackLineLeather  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not have any experience with the Fiebings Resist although from what i have come across is that it can be used as a final sealer. I use Fiebings Tan Kote almost exclusively when it comes to adding a resist before i antique, and after the antique dries. My final sealer of choice is Fiebings Saddle Lac which comes in an aerosol can.
      Most of these techniques depend on the look you want to obtain. I advise to always try different methods on scrap first, just to make sure. I hope this helped.

Explain more of your technique of layering with a diluted layer, followed by a full strength coat of the same color to achieve better paint penetration and good solid coloring. Meaning explain/ list colors that take well, and don't take well. Colors that you say doesn't do well painted over a white layer, ect. Explain (as you said) what colors can blend well with white. And, what colors do and don't blend well with which colors??? THAT WOULD BE A TOUGH, DETAILED AND TECHNICAL video. But, extremely helpful. If you decide to do such video, please let me know. Please.

      @@eh024680 great suggestion. I believe that would make a great video. As far as my sealing process, the final layer of tan kote is what i consider a sort of project "cleaner" or "brightener" since most of my projects are antiqued. The tan kote shines up the project and removes the dullnes left by the dried antique. The saddle lac is used as a protective, high gloss sealer. This adds one final protective layer to the project and gives it a nice, new shiny look. It is very fast drying and although, smells strong, the smell fades quickly, leaving that amazing leather smell.

    Suggestion: either don’t wear a cap or turn it around so the bill doesn’t block the view!

    Guys I want to paint my leather headgear for boxing would this technique work ?

    • @AttackLineLeather
      @AttackLineLeather  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not done that, however I wouldn't recommend it due to the fact the head gear is not vegetable tan leather. However, take a look at angelus paints. Lots of people use them to paint shoes so it might be similar

    so is tan c0te the best resist going?

    • @AttackLineLeather
      @AttackLineLeather  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's hard to say if it's the best, but it works very well as a resist. It's the only thing I use.

    From what I can see your doing a great job. But I not able to watch your entire show. About 1/4 to 1/2 way into the video it starts buffering like crazy then shuts off. Seems to happen to only your videos. I like what I see though keep it up.

      @@AttackLineLeather cool. I like your artwork. I craft leather also but I've been hesitant to paint it. Maybe in time ( after a few more of your videos) I'll give it a shot.😎
