when I tore my achilles I still felt uncomfortable trying to run/and or jump on it at 5 months and I was being very aggressive with my rehab so I cannot imagine what he's gonna look like at 3 months...granted I'm not a professional athlete with access to world-class doctors, trainers, and medical facilities but as brian said biology is still biology...

this is so true. sports have made people more delusional or unrealistic of injuries and their time to heal. when we see athletes playing again in a season, we think we can be normal a year after an injury, too. that is simply not the case.

You might not have had access to Aaron Rodgers' surgeons, but at any big city hospital, the surgeons are gonna be very good. They have to be. They do surgeries like ACLs & Achilles on a wide variety of patients, from high school athletes to elderly tennis players. The techniques are the same but they make minor adjustments to the protocols for a kid versus a 70-year-old. These surgeries are like repairing a torn piece of fabric, and the surgeons all have to carefully weave that fabric back together.
And that's where biology comes back in. The cells in that "fabric" have to grow back, and reform the fabric in the right pattern. A teenager's cells is likely to grow faster than a 70-year-old's. No matter what Rodgers says, he's NOT a teenager. Even with the best nutrition (or steroids), they can only grow so fast. And that tendons "fabric" has to strengthen before you can push its ability to handle more strain. Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson needed at least a year, and they're not getting tackled by 300lb defensive linemen. The notion that he comes back to play in December Is absurd.

All micro flexes in this weeny, no macro flex. Aaron Rodgers can scale up and down.
Aaron Rodgers is a master of his craft.
This guy's craft is analyzing how things "should" work IF all things were equal.

As a physical therapist who sees these kinds of injuries every day (25 years experience in orthopedics), everything Brian says is spot on. Can Aaron Rodgers do it, yes. Is it MUCH more likely to re-tear, yes. Would I do it or recommend a patient return to sport in 3 months, no. As Brian said, he's an adult and can make his own decisions. Let's not make this the norm. I wish Aaron well, but I wouldn't even think of returning to NFL football in less than 9 months and even that would be a quick recovery.

Totally agreed. I was about to jump down here and say the same thing working in PT myself. Even if he's just hanging out in the pocket, the thought of any cutting motion, rapid positional changes, slipping, or hit, especially during the first several months of an early return, makes me want to cringe lol. I have a question, we all know of the “outliers” such as cam Akers and Adrian Peterson (coming back from acl in 6 months)…
How does a doctor or therapist know that they’re dealing with an outlier ? Like for Adrian Peterson, ACL protocol was “x”, what makes a doctor clear him outside or that protocol?

What I imagine he’ll say when he’s inevitably asked about this on Tuesday, is that he is pushing his rehab with the mid December date in mind. He was also vague enough that he could claim he wants to return to practice by that point, rather than to the starting lineup.
It also is going to be very easy for him and the team to not play him if the Jets don’t win at least 2 games in the next month, as he definitely will not come back to a team that has no chance to make the playoffs.

To be quite frank i honestly believe if he returns to play successfully for rest of the season, post season and off season (i.e. one year post surgery) the most likely explanation is peptides and/or other PEDs. Considering some of the olympic and professional athletes ive been blessed to hear from it would come as no surprise to me that someone in not only the nfl but the top of the league, would be using PEDs especially in a recovery context

    I have a few thoughts:
    1) The media is blowing it out of proportion. Every professional athlete has a GOAL to win the championship. Very few do. I think it is fine that he has this goal. The media is acting like he is saying he will definitely be back by then. If you actually listen to what HE says firsthand, he is not being unrealistic.
    2) He is at the very tail-end of his career. And he is a QB. His risk of reinjury has to take these things into account. As an elite QB who understands his body and the game, I will give him the credit that he can adjust his play to minimize risk. No one is pretending like coming back this early is risk-free. But that risk is probably worth it to him and the Jets with that defense if they have a shot to make the playoffs by that point.
    3) A lot of you will not like this one, but there is absolutely something to be said about mindset/belief when it comes to the body healing. And he is the type of person who very much believes in this and is surely actively adopting the such techniques to potentially accelerate his healing.
All the power to him. 🙏

I would guess with his financial status and personal contacts/resources he’s had stem cell treatments to aid in recovery. Is this a smart plan by him? And would they promote the healing of the Achilles itself? Additionally with his boss being the owner of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, you would think they have access to certain medications that are in trials or not FDA approved in US but maybe elsewhere, that he would then have the ability to access. Just wondering your thoughts on that?

Great video. I agree 100% with why Rodgers is trying to do this. Like you said, he's never been an extremely mobile QB, so losing a little strength isn't a huge deal. He's almost 40. It's not like he's got much longer left to play where it will be a big deal. If you're 25-30 with a long career ahead of you, you likely want that tendon to heal to 100%.
Finally, I think Rodgers sees this team as being very good, just missing a QB, and he thinks they can make a run.

I could understand if the Jets were playing good and literally needed him for a deep playoff run but even IF they won 3 out of their next 4 games, they would still need to win out just to get in and then win 3 games on the road in the playoffs just to get to the Super Bowl. I would like your comments on a couple of aspects of Aaron's specific process and procedure. You mentioned the tendons having sufficient time to be fully healed and reconnected, but you didn't mention Dr. ElAttrache's "speed bridge" procedure. Doesn't this strengthen that connection while everything else is healing around it? Also, is it possible to accelerate the healing of the ligaments and tissues by taking collagen or other natural supplements that could potentially speed up the natural healing process? I agree with another commenter that Aaron's goal to return by December, may be to be back at practice, but not game ready. It could take him a couple more weeks to see him in a game if everything goes right.

Is he potentially hoping to leverage the stability the bridge provides to return early and what are the potential consequences both positive and negative. Thanks for the video.
Does that treadmill work by increasing the air pressure in the lower area where the person's legs are? I think that's what you said, but I wasn't sure. If so, is there any risk of "the bends" from subjecting the legs to increased air pressure for some period of time and then going back to atmospheric pressure quickly? A part of my brain thinks that nitrogen may be forced into the legs from the high pressure and that a sudden release of that pressure could lead to bubbles forming and causing those symptoms. Another part of my brain thinks that the upper part of the body and the lungs being at atmospheric pressure would cause nitrogen to be released too much to build up anywhere. Which part is right?
Are you familiar with PEMF therapy? I've heard of athletes using this kind of therapy to recover more quickly from certain kinds of injuries. While I don't believe that this therapy would change a twelve month recovery to a three month recovery, I wonder whether this would help an athlete make a fuller recovery in twelve months. I wonder whether that or any similar therapy done regularly would give an athlete (or anyone else) healthier ligaments and tendons that would be less prone to injury.

Rodger’s own doctors are probably telling him the same thing. He is likely just stubborn.

He definitely won't but he is kinda petty so if he sees this. He will most likely bring it up on the Pat Mcafee show

ARod is extremely intelligent man. He takes all information in and makes his decisions on that like we all do.
You have to remember, Aaron is also a leader, and a lot of his comments are for the 53 guys in that locker room.
When you go to battle like these dudes do, they know that every win they get is important.
Even if Rodgers is thinking in his own head it will be more like the very end of the season. Like last game and playoffs if they squeeze in. I think a lot of his comments are to his team, stay in it as long as possible and if you get to the end and we have a chance I will play.

    Got a question?
This weight reducing treadmill, can I jog on this without the up and down impact on my lower spine ? I have 2 bilateral herniated disks at L4 and L5 with DJD.

Aaron is addicted to attention and afraid of irrelevancy. He's a legend in his own mind.

@@jplaza7210This TH-cam channel posted a video directly after the injury successfully diagnosing it just from looking at the video before the injury was announced. If the injury is fake then this guy is in on it.

Hmm, when a massive window fell on my leg at work… the PT that workers comp sent me to didn’t happen to have any of those treadmills available 😂

Great video, but seemed to have a background hissing/cracking sound through the entire video, just a FYI. Could Stem Cells help recovery go faster?

I'd err on the side of caution. So many people have tried to come back sooner than usual from ACL's and either retorn them or torn something else because they were compensating for a less than totally healed ligament. I think with Achilles tendons you can see the same scenario. It has to feel 100%.

Lions fan here. What about CJ the pectoral muscle tear. What is his timeline for return? His injury was on September 17? Great video thanks.

Thank you. As a fan of the player and the team ( 40 year fan by the way ) I am hopeful that your clear and logical "warning" with regard to the natural metabolic variables in this process, is Headed by an otherwise very foolish Administration, ( and I respect much of what they've done) and by that I mean careless handling of the team, post injury in game one. They NEED to protect Rogers from another injury and fortify the obvious weaknesses in the offense before he steps back out there. Thank you

I know a podiatrist/ foot and ankle surgeon who said with that type of Achilles injury, for a person of Rodgers age it would take at least a year or so before he was able to safely return and use his ankle movements necessary on a football field. Anytime sooner would be a huge risk of permanent injuries.

For an any Joe. Sure. Not the case with Rodgers. Drs also used to say an Achilles injury was career ending. Drs who aren’t in the cutting edge of research wouldn’t know what could be possible. They just known what has been possible.

Brian, how does a doctor know if he’s dealing with an outlier like AP ?
ACL protocol is “x,” what makes a doctor feel confident in situations outside of the protocol?

I appreciate the content but hate how poor the mic quality was during this. Sorry for the criticism but I hope you’re able to improve on this in the future and I thank you for the perspective on Rodgers’ injury though.
