I too had to remain in the closet during my USAF days in the 70s. Had dinner one night in Frankfurt with my copilot(I was the navigator), I now know he was flirting during our dinner. I frequently think of him and what might have been 😢🌈
Looks like military duty was a great way for guys from small towns to meet other guys. I understand that there were guys who didn't want to go home after WWII but stayed in places like San Diego and L. A.
It definitely was a way out for a lot of men. And not just the bi or gay guys...most of Bob Mizer's models were straight military men who needed a quick buck. So quite a few posed in their bday suits. Lots of dreamers out there. A few hustlers too. lol
@@CollidePress "Project 2025" wants to return to the time when one could not get Bob Mizer's photos through the mail but had to meet a guy in a motel or hotel. They would deem CollidePress as pornographic and shut you down.

This was noticed post-WWI. There was even a song about it. Something like "How you gonna keep'em on the farm when they've been to Paris?" The difference was with WWII there were many more WAC's, WAV's, and other aux women's services. They and the soldiers tended to marry each other and move to a city near the midpoint of their respective home towns. The GI Bill intensified this. The kicked off the brain drain that still goes on today. And for gay guys, why on earth would you want to go back to your hometown of a few thousand people?
Howdy Clint 3:52 how times change, guys using a bank of payphones, today they all have mobiles (cells to you 🇺🇸) 😎 I loved the line up of navy lads in their Dixie Cup hats at the bar too, a few I would buy a drink for😮 That ckeeky looking down his pals swimmer shorts is ace. Cheers DougT 🇫🇴

Years ago back in the Air Force Southeast Asia, I witnessed quite a clique of closeted gay officer/pilots who repeatedly requested "TDYs" (temporary duty assignments) -away from their obligatory wives and children, so they could temporary be their true selves. Perhaps the dangers in hiding behind such macho / "commander" facades added "spice" to their adventures. Later on, many turned into arch-conservatives, perhaps due to self-loathing and/or as fearful "cover stories." Their pointless oppression by a quite stupid "society" has been very sad to see.
Sadly, I've known a few of those types as well. It's a literal shame what living in the closet has cost humankind. All of it. Not just us gay and bi guys. Self-hatred is taught...self-love can be too.
