Now I have a conspiracy theory that this was a publicity stunt, and they were going to change it from the very beginning. They just made Sonic look like a inbred hell dream just to get people talking. But the final movie was always going to look like Sonic. Just think, how hard is it to make an animated character look exactly like an animated character? They knew it looked bad.

Making him look bad in the trailer is probably a fraction of the marketing budget.. and they had EVERYONE on the internet talking about the movie for the past couple of days.... and now they're going to get MORE publicity for "listening to the criticisms and changing Sonic's look"..... they probably SAVED money on marketing.

Pulls out a mirror and sees he still looks like the current design and then says "Oh come on! Would you hurry up Day 1 patch! The people are here and waiting." Meanwhile the camera pans up to a loading bar. The patch finishes and his design changes.

I meant it as a good thing because usually they're always soft and sensitive about things they make and never listen to the hardcores, only the offended people. So I can't believe they actually chose to listen to us for a few once. It's a nice change.

I mean c’mon though. All those people designing and overseeing it and no one could see that it looked all types of wrong? They went for a more "realistic look" but in the end people hated it. With These kinds of live action movies sometimes is harder to fit in the original designs (Even harder with big stars like Jim Carrey in it). If the whole movie was CGI is a lot easier to stick with the original. However am sure that they had the more cartoony designs somewhere handy just in case of a big outrage

Me too. I had no intention of seeing at the theaters. Even though i am abig fan of the original sonic. Now i am gonna make an effort to see it. The effect when he turns into a ball was awesome.

Remodeling 1 cgi character in a low budget video game movie because most of the internet didn't like how it looked in the trailer is not the same thing as remaking a whole blockbuster budget movie from the ground up with no singular creative vision because a minority of the people that saw it didn't like some story elements AFTER it had already been released. Fan perception and feedback online is literally why these first 2 movies in the new Star Wars trilogy came out the way they did. People demanded a nostalgic movie so they got one. People demanded more diversity and women so they got them, people demanded a dakrer, riskier and more subversive story so they got one. Rian got his own trilogy canceled they were planning too. I'm afraid I know EXACTLY how the next movie is gonna turn out because of fan reception. If anything at all, they are responsive to what the fans want to a fault because they're too nebulous and don't know what thet want, but the Sonic movie? Fuck it, make his character look like a cartoon before it comes out, that's it.
I have to disagree, most of the complaints are meaningless and nonsense. People complained about Wonder Woman's arm pits, and let's not forget how everyone bad mouth the new Pennywise before it's release. Remember how so many were against Heath being the Joker. This list can go on forever. Some complaints are legit, but most of the times, it's just a bunch of whiny bitches with too much time on their hands.

Well, Looney Tunes: Back in Action (Brendan Fraser movie) was kinda sucky in storyline but the animation wasn't bad for the time. It was actually supposed to be a sequel to Space Jam, which was way more awesome.

Goji Boy that’s where they went wrong. Never cater to sonic fans, they are never ever happy. Just got to let the design grow on them. People lost their collective you know what when the boom designs were shown and people love that show. Don’t even get me started on green eyes

Yeah but that seems to be the favorite scene for most of the people that saw the trailer, just because it was Jim Carrey going old school Jim Carrey there, even though that is not how Eggman acts. I saw more people complain about Sonic's look than how Carrey was acting as Eggman in that particular scene.
Jose Lopez the trailer for the last Jedi didn’t show much to begin with. The criticism came after the film was released, when it was too late to make any changes.

I just don't want another Sausage Party situation where hey the movie is great but then we hear horror stories from the team. People have no idea what it takes to be an animator and I'm seeing a lot of ignorance floating around in regards to the team working on Sonic himself. Which is just kind of sad and shows how little the general movie going public actually knows or cares when it comes to film. So now they have even MORE work to redo him in a crunch time of 5 months if that. I'd rather delay so they aren't pushed beyond their limit due to this time crunch.

That's sad and all, but they shouldn't have went with a design so unlike the character they're making a moive for, that it caused almost universal criticism. That's not on the movie going public, that's on the filmmakers.

Within the time frame they have for the release of Sonic the Hedgehog I don't think the animators are going to be able to actually fix what needs to be fixed, they might tweak a few things but the movie actually needs a major overhaul on the Sonic character that they're just not going to be able to do, so there will be more internet bitching about the movie. But much respect to the director for saying he will do something about it and if he actually is able to do something about it.

Nikolai Russia This comment makes no sense. There was no backlash to TLJ until after the movie came out. And when it did happen, it was because people disliked huge parts of the plot and writing, not the design of one cgi character. Plus, with TLJ it's a vocal minority that's complaining, not the entire fanbase (as seems to be the case here). It's not a sensible comparison in any way, shape or form.
There was no red flags in the Last Jedi trailer and Rian Johnson’s non Star Wars movies are considered to be some of the best sci-fi movies of this century. I get not liking Last Jedi, that’s a fair opinion, but Rian Johnson was not recieving any criticism before the release of the Last Jedi.

Remodeling 1 cgi character in a low budget video game movie because most of the internet didn't like how it looked in the trailer is not the same thing as remaking a whole blockbuster budget movie from the ground up with no singular creative vision because a minority of the people that saw it didn't like some story elements AFTER it had already been released. Fan perception and feedback online is literally why these first 2 movies in the new Star Wars trilogy came out the way they did. People demanded a nostalgic movie so they got one. People demanded more diversity and women so they got them, people demanded a dakrer, riskier and more subversive story so they got one. Rian got his own trilogy canceled they were planning too. I'm afraid I know EXACTLY how the next movie is gonna turn out because of fan reception. If anything at all, they are responsive to what the fans want to a fault because they're too nebulous and don't know what thet want, but the Sonic movie? Fuck it, make his character look like a cartoon before it comes out, that's it.

People complained about Wonder Woman's arm pits, and let's not forget how everyone bad mouth the new Pennywise before it's release. Remember how so many were against Heath being the Joker. Well, Looney Tunes: Back in Action (Brendan Fraser movie) was kinda sucky in storyline but the animation wasn't bad for the time. It was actually supposed to be a sequel to Space Jam, which was way more awesome.

I just don't want another Sausage Party situation where hey the movie is great but then we hear horror stories from the team. People have no idea what it takes to be an animator and I'm seeing a lot of ignorance floating around in regards to the team working on Sonic himself. Which is just kind of sad and shows how little the general movie going public actually knows or cares when it comes to film. So now they have even MORE work to redo him in a crunch time of 5 months if that. I'd rather delay so they aren't pushed beyond their limit due to this time crunch.

Within the time frame they have for the release of Sonic the Hedgehog I don't think the animators are going to be able to actually fix what needs to be fixed, they might tweak a few things but the movie actually needs a major overhaul on the Sonic character that they're just not going to be able to do, so there will be more internet bitching about the movie. But much respect to the director for saying he will do something about it and if he actually is able to do something about it.

And when it did happen, it was because people disliked huge parts of the plot and writing, not the design of one cgi character. Plus, with TLJ it's a vocal minority that's complaining, not the entire fanbase (as seems to be the case here). It's not a sensible comparison in any way, shape or form.
There was no red flags in the Last Jedi trailer and Rian Johnson’s non Star Wars movies are considered to be some of the best sci-fi movies of this century. I get not liking Last Jedi, that’s a fair opinion, but Rian Johnson was not recieving any criticism before the release of the Last Jedi.
