In 2050 we will have the same discussion of modern ball
As well we should lol

Evolution.
Yup, because players are going to be better in 30 years than they are now. Same reason why 90’s players are better than 60’s players.
And that’s why the whole argument is stupid. People still enjoy modern ball, does that mean that everyone who enjoys it now in 26 years should be considered bland?
I can imagine in *20 years*
“Omg *Wemby* , the quintuple double He’s the GOAT!!!”
“ *Oh yeah* , well back in my day, *Lebron* would’ve whooped that soft toothpick a new one. “
“ *Shut up* Old head, we done with the 10s.” 😂
And it will be hilarious 😂😂
difference is they played each other. jordan enerv played lebron or anyone like him
@@TheGamingShogun Jordan literally retired exactly one year before LeBron was drafted. You acting like he played in the 1600s or sum shit
@@notexalted800 so he never played LeBron nor did he play in the revolutionary era so yes like I said Jordan never played in the eras LeBron did but LeBron played in the era Wemby did. There's a difference Jordan never played any more than the early point of the dead ball era. He never played in the three point era or the pace and space era
@@TheGamingShogun First of all this take doesn’t make any sense. You’re comparing someone who is playing past his prime and someone who hasn’t even reached their prime in both scenarios. Lebron could’ve retired last year and this wouldn’t make any difference 😂 It doesn’t really matter if Jordan played another year with Lebron or not. Just cause you played through more eras don’t mean shit 😂
This needed to be said so badly. NBA fan discussions have been so toxic for so long and it's so unnecessary. This doesn't happen in any other sports fanbase, just enjoy the games, man.

100% agree Kenny, as fans we just need to enjoy basketball, cheer for our favorite teams, players, and just have fun. No need for heated arguments.
I disagree, Its a competitive sport. Players are going to be compared. Kenny ofc aint gonna discredit the 90s. Bulls legacy is on the line
You people only say this when people start disrespecting you're favorite players
@@spicyshizz2850 facts cant say why have a debate and be completely bias 😂
The funny thing is MJ average 37 a game without a left. He would average 50 with both hands, damn that's why MJ will forver be the GOAT.
I also agree with Kenny
I feel like this trend is less about the actual quality of basketball and more about the fact that people don't watch full games anymore, completely normal plays that still happen today are used to discredit the 80's and 90's.
Highlight culture has conditioned many young people to think that every possession ends with a good shot.
Another point is that basketball is constantly changing, if you watch a game from today then watch one from 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 15, 20, etc. each one is gonna look completely different from the ones before and after. The pick and roll craze 3-6 years back looks ridiculous in hindsight the same way the iso heavy 2000's or pass heavy offenses of the early 20th century look compared to now.
We really need to start appreciating greatness in context.
Exactly. Jordan flourishing during a time where physicality was at an all-time high and doing it with finesse, AMAZING.
Kobe dominating while barely passing the ball during an isolation-heavy era, AMAZING.
LeBron dominating during a superteam and three-point heavy era and never being injured, AMAZING.
The tribalism present in basketball is ridiculous. People need to enjoy basketball for what is. Younger people need to realize the context in which older players played and why it was so impressive, and older people need to realize the game evolves and changes. Who you might think is a fraud now you can appreciate 20 years from now when the game is entirely different. Let go of your biases and enjoy things for what they are.
You don’t have to discredit everybody else to justify the player that you like the most.
Love this comment. i still watch back great games from every era and it's all the same to me aka competition at highest level. Jordan and Barkley at the end of a deep 1993 postseason leaving it on the court gives me the same enjoyment as Warriors/Cavs in 2016 or a 135-134 playoff game today would.
@@Odysseus1999 objectively speaking though what lebron is doing is less amazing then the other 2. lebron is better player then kobe but what kobe did under his limits is more goat like. we will never get to see what lebron would of been like in kobes era (enforced rules era) so he can never be the goat.

@@fica1137 i know but im saying his dribbling with no cupping/traveling and IQ is just insane. he had to do things in limits that modern players would die under. he aint the goat cause MJ did everything kobe did but better.

This one bothers me more than MJ hate. There are so many awful things bill had to endure during his career. Not being allowed to eat, sleep or travel with the team. He fought alongside Muhammad Ali for civil rights. He fought for players to be paid more so they did not need a second job. And he did it all with the biggest smile and best laugh. Man look at kenny so inspirational
The problem I have with most arguments about older generations of sports is that the main jist of the argument stems from claiming that there's a lack of "physicality" in modern sports, which can be all in the eye of the beholder.
Just because a sport doesn't allow you to borderline assault someone and get away with it doesn't mean that the sport is any less physical, and YES that is what I am talking about here. I'm not talking about the modern petty fouls that would have flown in the 90s, I am specifically talking about grown men who are complaining that sports were "real" when there was overall more violence.
Like, it's a team game that was invented by some dudes in the YMCA.
If you desperately *need* to see sweaty grown men rub against eachother to reaffirm your own masculinity, I am sure there are other types of media that would satisfy that urge🤷♂️🤷♂️
Get what you’re saying but this era is softer mentality and physically while they have gone up in strength and skill.

Kenny I fw wit ur take On Point
One thing that I appreciate about Kenny is that you're always authentic. People get so deep into the daily online social media/podcast/talking "feeling right" is how they watch/consume/talk hoops. I watch basketball to see the best face off to see who wins in every era. That's basketball. Not a style or an era or a debate source, etc.
Nostalgia ruins pretty much every type of debate or ranking, they’re all pointless bc the goal of any sport long term is for it to grow and have more talent. New players would shit on most older ones
Yep. I like to argue that the top 10% of the talent in an era could pretty much be very good to great in every era. What changes is the average NBA player in each era.
The average NBA player tends to get better over time, while the top talent doesn't fluctuate that greatly from era to era (at least 1970s onwards).
@@Jkev24that makes no sense. the reason these greats are so good is because they were far ahead of their time when they came into the league compared to everyone else. nowadays that gap of talent has decreased so they would be a normal role player in today’s league. i’m not saying it’s their fault i’m just saying with their skill set from their era they couldn’t do good in today’s nba. they’d have to adopt a whole new playstyle and it would take years before they would be good
No they wouldn’t.
Players are just as capable.
Most of you are genuinely slow and don’t understand the term evolution.
The GAME is different due to rules and technology/medicine.
This debates showcases the stupidity of the modern populace.
@@donjames340 That may be true for some, but not all.
Like for instance, we've seen DeRozan flourish when he can't shoot 3s. There's a place in the league for mid-range specialists still.
A guy like Shaq is going to be so dominant at scoring down low that he would bring back the necessity of having 1 enforcer on the team just to guard him.
Some players were ahead of their time, but some were so ahead of their time that they would still be elite today.
Guys like Bird were doing a lot of the same things Luka is doing today.
Just depends on the star player in question.
@@Jkev24 the main steroid of the 90's were HGH and Tren(strength and explosive power) vs EPO now Epo is pure speed and stamina. Which is why you see more points scored vs physical " defence" then.

Bron was clutch since day one but until 2012 Game 6 v Boston and 2016 3-1 did Bron finally get the label removed but taken seriously as a top 3 at that point. Last decade has just taken him to at worst 2/1B and to many, like me, 1A. At a certain point the hate must give way to a mature reading of the game. I as a Manning can piss and moan about Manning being the GOAT and discredit Brady but if you really like the game, you can't help but appreciate. Manning is my fav ever and damnit at this point Brady is too.
Kenny is the “peace, love and positivity” of basketball. Bro spreads plp through straight good vibes fr
Preach. The game evolves. Everyone talks about Kyrie looking like a wizard playing in the 90s and, sure, that would be true if there were time machines but that's not how that works. The same logic applies to MJ or Shaq being thrown to the 70s. Plopping players into different eras would just generate a different player altogether, relevant to that time. A Jordan born in 1993 would look a hell of a lot different than what we saw in the 90s. That's why arguing eras is so pointless.
I actually very recently switched my opinion on the goat debate. Always thought Jordan, but only a few weeks ago my opinion began to shift to Lebron. If I had to guess why I was able to is because, scientifically, people are less likely to change their opinions when they are disproven or informed they are wrong. But no one told me I was wrong or argued with me. I was able to change it on my own through my own observations.
What made you switch opinion ? The longevity ? That got me thinking ngl

@@3self In my opinion Jordan didn't really go against difficult competition. His supporting cast was always better than every other superstar. They won 55 games without him and were still contenders. Lebron had to go against the dynasty spurs and warriors, plus the league he played in and still does is way more talented. Like how it is incredibly difficult for a team to win 2 rings back to back due to how balanced it is now. He was a big fish in a small pond.
Lebron had to go against the Spurs and the Warriors and mostly lost. He lost against the Mavs in 2011 in all time most embarrassing fashion due to his own mediocrity. Lebron is nowhere near Jordan's level (or Kobe's or Tim Duncan's) but you all go ahead and revel in your own ignorance

And it really comes down to what you value Do you value Lebron’s skill set and longevity ? Or are u a peak guy where MJs peak was the most dominate, consistent 10 year stretch of baseball we’ve ever seen? People are not changing they’re mind it’s set in stone let’s just appreciate them both for their contributions. It’s funny because when I was a kid I wasn’t in to Bball for the GOAT debate that’s a modern conversation. I was in to Hoops because TMAC was playing his game in Orlando, then his cousin in Toronto was throwing it down putting on a show, then Shaq and Kobe were winning 3 peats, AI was leading the new school with his swag, Lebron, Dwade and Melo came in and set the league in fire, Ben Wallace and the Pistons used to intimidate me ect ect. That’s why I watched because I truly enjoyed everyone’s unique game. The matchups and then rivalries and the history. MJ used to just be MJ and great no one comparing him to anyone else. Times were simpler and more genuine I miss that man

I can't believe i'm posting this comment 11 days after posting on Jonny Arnett (in my opinion the best basketball historian on TH-cam) about the legitimacy of Will 100 points game... So i'm gonna repeat myself here, as someone who teaches history, I think what we are facing here is the classical problem of anachronism, people have the tendency to believe that they are living in the best moment in time and that everyone and everything that came before is to result in this specific glorious moment (try to explain to a class of 13 years old that their opinion is simply not better than that of everyone who ever lived haha)
And the fact that this is a tiktok trend, against videos of guys who respect the history of the game is so telling... (This generation have a real problem with attention spam and believing everything they see on the internet) The only part that gets a chuckle out of me, is that the 80 and 90 players are gonna start to face what the 50/60/70 players have gonna thru, sometimes by their own hands. This world doesn't go around, he rolls over..

I’m a time traveler from 2054. We’re so done with the 2020s y’all didn’t even have the 4 point line and had 6’2 dudes winning finals mvps 💤💤💤💤

People are already having those conversations about Brady being from an old era. Except both sides use the same argument
I know it might be hard as you’re a bulls fan, but we done with the 90s kenny
Nostalgia will always distort your opinion on things like sports. The 90's absolutely had some of the greatest players of all time, but are many of them overrated because people are biased towards "the old days?" Yes, absolutely. Is the average NBA player significantly better today? Yes, absolutely. Does that mean the best players of the previous eras should be discredited? No, absolutely not. There has to be a healthy balance of being able to recognize the greatness of players across different eras regardless of how much the game has changed.
I was waiting for this vid lol
“Comparison is a thief of joy”
Absolute hardest quote
Getting emotionally charged over someone's opinion you don't even know is weird. Its not that serious it's just basketball😂😂😂
the only thing Bron has on Jordan is longevity.
Scoring record,better stats,more,athletic,iq,etc
Better shooter, better driver of the ball, better passer. lol
@@einderdhillon6231better shooter? They keep stats on where players shoot from and Lebron’s FG percentage from within 2 feet of the basket is what keeps his percentage high….his midrange is like 15%
@@bondbarrybonds5774 we're going to ignore 3pt shooting now?
@@einderdhillon6231 shooting isn’t only relegated to beyond the arc. Mid range and freethrows are shooting stats as well and Jordan is better at both. By your metrics, Lebron is a better shooter than Kobe. Or deangelo russell is a better shooter than Reggie Miller. Neither is true
I’ve heard Rusty, LOW, and now you talk about this. I NEED to hear P’s take
I love this.. WE Done Son 😂😂
