Hi. I commented on this and said what you did wasn’t right. Fair play for going back and sorting again. A lot of respect for that. Everyday is a school day and we all should take advice and act like this 👍
I don't meet many people like you Adam. Your work ethics are what makes you an excellent ambassador for the Electrical Trade. Don't change mate. Thanks for sharing with us.
My Energy should just refund you for this, and protect their reputation. It will put people off buying their units. Really short-sighted of them, especially due to the fact they had actually seen your video.
Now (from a consumer perspective) it takes integrity & professionalism to publicly admit when they have erred in their task. Correcting and making good as well. I would use this sparky without a second thought - 5⭐ rating all the way.
Absolute champion, I love your videos, love your working style and attitude towards everything and always try and fire off a comment or two. Keep it up big man, I’m at fullycharged at the end of the month and I’m going to nail them for this too as I fit a lot of these.
Fair play to you Adam, not just for going back again and addressing the RCD issue, but for not dropping the Myenergi Rep in the do-do. Unlike those guys, you have come out of this with your integrity intact. Top man.
Glad to see you are making the install better. Keeping the customer happy and doing the right thing. Good to see you take pride with your company rather than some of those cowboys. Keep up the great work Adam
I spoke to niceic scout this today. They told me as long as the charger has an integral push test button on the built in rcd and the feed cable is wired in a way that doesn't require rcd protection, an upfront isn't needed.
Which this one does not have a push test button and I am pretty sure that if the RCD doesn’t comply with British standards, I’m not sure how he is saying it’s fine

Pure QUALITY PR you should start giving lessons to my energy , they are your Hager , they have been very quiet over this and that’s the worst thing they can do
That reg you read out is that car chargers must be individually RCD protected from another car charger (2 chargers can't share same RCD). Not that it cant be RCD protected along other circuits in the same box. Think of a split load board, nothing wrong with it. This came up on an NICEIC webinar. It's a reg that can be easily misinterperated.
@@persona250I Guess Efixx got it wrong as well. Forward to 1:45 th-cam.com/video/un3KZ8rWy-s/w-d-xo.html & i think their knowledge of the regs is better than mine & yours.
I’ve spoken to the people on the JPEL 64 and they say it’s to be on a RCD with no other circuits. Reason being is a Type A RCD will not trip if more than 6mA DC goes through it. So you can end up with a magnetised coil which then won’t detect AC faults. So if the charge point is leaking 4mA the RDC-DD won’t trip as it’s designed. Then if other circuits are leaking they can take RCD over its tolerance and create a potential issue. So that’s why and if you speak to the IET/JPEL lot that’s what they will tell you.
If anyone cares to read the reg 722.531.2.101 in the original blue book & compare it the amendment reg 722.531.3.101 in the brown book you will see it changed from ‘protected by it’s own RCD’ to ‘protected by an RCD’. This cleared up the confusion & allowing to be installed in split load boards & those with upfront Rcd’s.
Hi, I went to the Everything Electric Show at ExCel in London last week and MyEnergie were there and aware of your video. In fact when I asked if my Zappi should be connected to a RCD they immediately mentioned your video and said that you had misunderstood and the warranty refusal wasn't down to the non RCD issue. They proceeded to tell me it's fine on an MCB as long as it clipped directly and the internal RCD covered the need for one. I'm surprised they haven't contacted you to get everything straight. Fair play to you though for changing it if you thought it was wrong.
That’s very interesting, they have not contacted me regarding the RCD at all and that’s a get out clause because I did not misunderstand the email that was sent to my client, it was clear as day.

Seems to be the norm nowadays where no one can speak without it playing, annoying. Thanks anyway.
Fair play Adam, the RCD setup you originally went for didnt meet regs as you identified. A deviation on the certificate would be enough in those circumstances for me. With the electronic RCD in the product and I suspect less than 9mA cumulative leakage in the garage it wouldnt be any less safe imho. However your approach is better and credit to you for that. Myenergi are still way out of order especially so in contacting your customer in the way they did. Keep your chin up.
Adam, I really enjoy your videos, your presentation is excellent and very informative. Amazing, highly ethical response you have shown us and you have demonstrated great leadership in correcting this and sharing. Thank you , from Ireland.
Fair play but as I said in part 1 you shouldn’t of had to change it in the first place myenergi are really letting down the installers that got them the dig new office, but it’s there product that will lose it for them. So far for me the most call backs and swap outs are myenergi not good
Way to go Adam. Negative comments from people have an issue with something they would have done. All individual stuff. It's great to be honest for clients, rectifying our mistakes, or lack of information beforehand. I broke a glass protective shade for a fountain style chandelier. 😮. Probably cost £10.00 to replace. No they don't. £60 plus from the US. The job/ issue they had was flickering lights and a dodgy cooker switch, all sorted, until I accidentally time the glass. I'll pick up a whole set of lamps for just one glass as replacement. I know I'm doing the right thing, who else goes way beyond this sort of thing. I know I would appreciate an issue either g solved for no expense. Great video Adam.
Hi Adam, I had a Zappi installed by a NIC contractor during the residential grate scheme period. As a recently retired spark at the time of installation, I installed the 6mm SWA and cat5 cable to ensure the job was to my liking. I also confirmed with MyEnergi that only an MCB was required to protect the circuit and as it was SWA I was happy with this, (the NIC contractor was also happy with this as they were issuing the certificate) like you I’m somewhat amazed that they have now “moved the goal posts” and indeed they might be struggling to uphold this stance if legally challenged. Any how, this has lead me to change the MCB for a double poled bi-directional RCBO just in case. Great channel, keep them coming 👍.
@@sotaelectrical Congrats on maintaining your high standards and being honest about correcting your work on the rare occasion. INTEGRITY , something that is becoming a very rare thing these days... Earthing rods will be the next goal post being moved, "Ahh but you don't need them with this type of EV charger"... Only until there is a neutral fault on TN-C-S, Ahh but fit a GARO to solve this, only they can fail, trigger false faults tripping on/off, need replacing. Now some are saying just put in earth rod, even if the charger says one isn't required to avoid TN-C-S neutral loss issue... Give it a few years, 20th edition of regs will then mention all EV chargers must have ER's, so what then, do we now revisit all older installs ??? Well hopefully, by then people will have upgraded the original charger along with ER maybe. The way Zappi seem to be having some reliability issues, perhaps people might be on their 3rd or 4th Zappi TL-DR, can't keep up with all the revisions & changes on these bouncy moving goalposts - top stuff once again sir
I have done this myself on a job. I always used a 2 mod RCBO in an enclosure next to a DB, but would keep seeing people on social media just feeding 2 EVCP from a shared RCD on a split board or in an elcosure. I didn't even notice the part about using seperate RCD's
I Think many aren’t reading the Indents on reg 722.531.3.101. It doesn’t need its own Rcd if the charger has an RDC-DD that complies to BS IEC 62955 built in. & the Zappi definitely has.
Hi Adam my customer had a zappi fitted without an RCD up front if there are issues with the charger will Myenergy not come out and sort the charger because there is no up front RCD, just for clarity I didn't fit the charger and also the cable run does not require RCD protection
Hi Daniel, to be honest I have no idea how myenergi will move forward with this, they may change their policy I honestly don’t know. If I find out anymore I will let you know 👍
Fair play for going back and rectifying. Also fair play for not hiding the fact that everyone makes a mistake and it's great that we all can learn from people's mistakes. We need to share our knowledge and improve our skilled trade! 👍
I really want one of mine to fail after being told by technical that I can apply 120.3 and 133.5. Genuinely annoyed on your behalf. Literally within the last month been told that this is acceptable. Clearly getting too big to care.
Really admire you going back and changing that back and putting it up on here. I watched your previous video just days after I installed a Zappi and I’ve gone back to swap it to an RCBO. Mistakes like this help other people learn. I’ve always wanted to do a TH-cam channel but I’ve been concerned about the negative comments. Fair play to you
Thank you for your comments, the reason I do it is to share info and knowledge, there are negative comments but put on your thick skin and don’t worry about the keyboard warriors, most of them wouldn’t dare make a video
Making Electrical TH-cam Videos means your work will always be under constant scrutiny ! and fair play for going back over a minor issue in this case. It does say individually protected by a dp rcd. however if sparks were allowed to use there grey matter you can see this wouldn't of caused a problem from a design point of view being a 'garage' with minimal circuits and load. I would of let that one go if I'm honest and learned for next time. Keep up the videos and dont you get hot in that big coat all the time ?.
Absolutely, I have dipped my toes in the sea of social media so I know what to expect, I could have let it go but I wanted it to be a future lesson for all. Thanks for commenting and have a good weekend 👍👍
Great video! Despite this now being common knowledge about upstream seem to be still some people refusing to fit upfront RCD protection! Hope AFDD for a 40a as that’s what my Energi require on there updated training
Omg 100 💯 qudos to you Adam .. what a great honest video … I’m new to the EV charger game as you know and I like The Myenergi Zappi as well but I think the way they are treating you is absolutely abysmal considering how much you show case their products and with your social Media presence… we all Make mistakes (and I would have to if it wasn’t for your videos) you think they would assist or honour the warranty in this case as you have said before there has been so many discrepancies in training of installing their products … Your work is second to none
Thank you for your kind comments, really appreciated my friend. I really hope your EV journey goes well and if I can help with anything in the future drop me a message, thanks for watching and taking the time to message me here 👍👍
Well done for accepting there was a better way to do things and making the changes. Hopefully your video helps to get the message out on this regulation. It gets frustrating to loose business because others don't follow the regulations and communications on this one especially is very poor.
So I'm not a qualified electrician and obviously not going to mess with installing a charger but your video did prompt me to go check the connection of the Zappi I have to the supply and fortunately for me it is installed with the correct RCD. But thank you for taking the time to make this video and big credit to you for owning your mistake. An excellent video!
Just commented on your first video then seen this. Fair play to you. We’re all human. It’s not the mistake you make, it’s how you fix it that matters. You can see in your other videos that you are always trying to install to your highest standards. Keep it going
Hello mate, thank you appreciate your comments, il always hold my hands up if I make a mistake, it’s a good example to set. Hope your enjoying your Easter break and thank you for taking the time to watch my content 👍👍
I commented about the RCD not being dedicated, but true to your word you have corrected the issue. Fair play. Not sure whether replacing the Zappi without waiting for the warranty installer negates the warranty on the replacement. I'm one of the warranty installers here so don't know what happens if someone else replaces it.
I was one of sparks that was very critical of what you had done and also suggested using a AFDD. But hats off to you for owning up to a mistake. We have all I’m sure made mistakes I know I have it’s how we deal with them that proves what sort of sparks/person we are. I my experience when a job starts going wrong it keeps on going wrong and you just have to take on the chin. The job is extremely difficult and getting harder with all the regs and requirements we are expected to know and nobody really knows it all.
Hi Paul, thanks for commenting, everything you said is true and I agree, il never claim to be perfect or know everything but il always do my best and put my hands up if it’s wrong, thank you for watching and engaging, appreciate it. Hope you have a great weekend 👍👍
That's the trouble to many changes a and you don't get the answers you want. Great to see you went back and sorted that job .. You will know next time 👍👍👍👍
U say splitting the tails are not an option? Not necessarily true i used to use a splitter board that breaks in the supply from the house and u can supply both boards from that.
So over all you spark’s have to charge what you charge to cover your backside because if the regs change over night someone has to pay. And your a very polite person
Fair play for been honest, at the end of the day, we are always learning and figuring things out! With out making mistakes we don’t grow! Keep up the good work and videos
From how open and honest you have been it makes me want to use you instead of others. I watch another channel that is in a different field and they have been told it hurts the business by others and the channel and anyone who lives in the real world knows, mistakes happen it’s showing you man up and deal with them rather than just hiding it and as you said just delete the video like I’m sure some would. Top job.
@@sotaelectrical will keep that in mind have a few hoops to jump through first as I rent and the meter is still the old radio teleswitch based system so waiting on the landlord to give go ahead to swap even though it’s basically (as you will know) non choice. Then it will be agreeing a place to mount it hopefully the easy option that’s just straight out the meter cupboard back wall to outside. But knowing the landlord he will want it to the garage which is 10m or so. With concrete drive as I see what the electrician did before hand to get power to the garage. Plus other bits and bobs that may be totally fine but not how I’d do them and as I said before I’m just a TH-cam warrior DIY guy lol.
Hi, I am in Australia and I have a question. Is there a reason why nobody seems to like using the Tesla wall connector ? I never see them installed in the UK. Why ?
Myenergi should of notified approved installers of the change, its not like we read the instructions on every install. A similiar thing happened when they stopped installers using the Harvi for grid limiting. Im just using a RCD/RCBO on every EVCP install now to cover my backside.

Will be interesting!! Let me know!!
I have done this myself on a job. I always used a 2 mod RCBO in an enclosure next to a DB, but would keep seeing people on social media just feeding 2 EVCP from a shared RCD on a split board or in an elcosure. I didn't even notice the part about using seperate RCD's
Thanks for commenting, yeah see everyday is a school day!! Have a great weekend bud 👍👍
So what issue it was protected with MCB & RCD just not RCBO? Is it not the same thing?
No it’s not I’m afraid, have you watched part 1?
@@sotaelectrical no but I will
@@gainmaster1 hopefully that will help make things more clearer
I Think many aren’t reading the Indents on reg 722.531.3.101. It doesn’t need its own Rcd if the charger has an RDC-DD that complies to BS IEC 62955 built in. & the Zappi definitely has.
The zappi definitely doesn’t, I have it in writing from them
Hi Adam my customer had a zappi fitted without an RCD up front if there are issues with the charger will Myenergy not come out and sort the charger because there is no up front RCD, just for clarity I didn't fit the charger and also the cable run does not require RCD protection
Hi Daniel, to be honest I have no idea how myenergi will move forward with this, they may change their policy I honestly don’t know. If I find out anymore I will let you know 👍
Well done. By the way what size afdd did you install
Fair play for going back and rectifying. Also fair play for not hiding the fact that everyone makes a mistake and it's great that we all can learn from people's mistakes.
We need to share our knowledge and improve our skilled trade! 👍
Thank you and yes I agree with everything you say, we should all learn from each other and not just criticise 👍👍
I really want one of mine to fail after being told by technical that I can apply 120.3 and 133.5. Genuinely annoyed on your behalf. Literally within the last month been told that this is acceptable. Clearly getting too big to care.
Thanks for commenting 👍👍👍
Thank you! We shall wait and see!!
Omg 100 💯 qudos to you Adam .. what a great honest video … I’m new to the EV charger game as you know and I like
The Myenergi Zappi as well but I think the way they are treating you is absolutely abysmal considering how much you show case their products and with your social
Media presence… we all
Make mistakes (and I would have to if it wasn’t for your videos) you think they would assist or honour the warranty in this case as you have said before there has been so many discrepancies in training of installing their products …
Your work is second to none
Thank you for your kind comments, really appreciated my friend. I really hope your EV journey goes well and if I can help with anything in the future drop me a message, thanks for watching and taking the time to message me here 👍👍
It's a shame Elucian don't have a double pole RCBO, but interesting that the AFDD is DPole, I wasn't aware of that.
Yeah I know, I have been told one is coming!! 👍👍
My honest opinion is our manufacturers of these devices we install are rubbish, Hardy any rcbos disconnect the neutral, All should be double pole
Completely agree 👍
Well done for accepting there was a better way to do things and making the changes.
Hopefully your video helps to get the message out on this regulation.
It gets frustrating to loose business because others don't follow the regulations and communications on this one especially is very poor.
Thank you sir 👍👍
So I'm not a qualified electrician and obviously not going to mess with installing a charger but your video did prompt me to go check the connection of the Zappi I have to the supply and fortunately for me it is installed with the correct RCD. But thank you for taking the time to make this video and big credit to you for owning your mistake. An excellent video!
Thank you sir!! Pleased your install is all good!! 👍👍
You have put your hands, good for you, now move on.
There is a lot of sparks don't know it all, nice vid mate keeping everybody up to date.
Thank you, moving on 👍👍
I commented about the RCD not being dedicated, but true to your word you have corrected the issue. Fair play. Not sure whether replacing the Zappi without waiting for the warranty installer negates the warranty on the replacement. I'm one of the warranty installers here so don't know what happens if someone else replaces it.
Thank you, I am an approved installer for them so I see no issue 👍
You will know next time 👍👍👍👍
Exactly that, thank you and thanks for watching!! 👍👍👍
U say splitting the tails are not an option? Not necessarily true i used to use a splitter board that breaks in the supply from the house and u can supply both boards from that.
It’s not an option because this is a garage board fed from the house consumer unit, there are no meter tails at this point
So over all you spark’s have to charge what you charge to cover your backside because if the regs change over night someone has to pay. And your a very polite person
Thank you sir
👍👏 Perhaps you could also show the homeowner how to properly coil the blue extension cable neatly! 😖🤣
🤣🤣
also as said before well done for going back and sorting it out doing the right thing is always costly but its right so well done
Thank you appreciate that 👍👍👍
Just proven yourself to be a Top man.......great vid catch you Sunday
Thank you sir, see you Sunday 👍👍
Excellent video. Did you have to go back to the other half dozen you featured to correct your correction? Have a great weekend.
Thank you, and yes done all my remedials
This guy is a legend. Owning your mistakes and putting what's wrong right is what decent tradies do.
Thank you sir 👍👍
Fair play for been honest, at the end of the day, we are always learning and figuring things out! With out making mistakes we don’t grow! Keep up the good work and videos
Exactly agree with everything you said, thank you for your comments and for watching my video 👍👍
FairPlay mate well done 👍🏾
Thank you mate 👍👍
Adam is the Hero we never knew we needed!
Can you get any more genuine than this guy. Love the uploads mate
Thank you mate 👍
You deal with things with such grace Adam.
Thank you sir👍👍
Well done mate big respect all round 👏👏👏
Thank you mate
Your honesty has just earned you a sub 👍
Thank you sir 👍
Why an AFDD when a RCBO would have complied?
Because the elucian RCBO doesn’t disconnect the neutral
@@sotaelectrical ah ok, looked like a fusebox at a glance
I’d of just kept it on the upfront Rcd it’s only a garage
I know but it’s more info I wanted to share
Genuine content and spark, That's why you get so much respect and not slated on Monday Club. Keep up the great work.
Thank you sir! What is Monday Club 🤣
Secret Club :). if you know, you know.
Podcast Monday club
@@markyd2633 I’m outside this secret club unfortunately
From how open and honest you have been it makes me want to use you instead of others. I watch another channel that is in a different field and they have been told it hurts the business by others and the channel and anyone who lives in the real world knows, mistakes happen it’s showing you man up and deal with them rather than just hiding it and as you said just delete the video like I’m sure some would. Top job.
Thank you for commenting, really appreciate it, have a great weekend my friend 👍
@@sotaelectrical you to. And a shame I’m over Yeovil way lol.
@@djgoode il come do a charger for you if you need one
@@djgoode well it sounds like you know your stuff to me!! Have a great weekend 👍👍
Hi, I am in Australia and I have a question. Is there a reason why nobody seems to like using the Tesla wall connector ? I never see them installed in the UK. Why ?
Hi mate, so we need something called PEN fault detection in this country and the Tesla charger is one of the only ones without it built in
Myenergi should of notified approved installers of the change, its not like we read the instructions on every install. A similiar thing happened when they stopped installers using the Harvi for grid limiting.
Im just using a RCD/RCBO on every EVCP install now to cover my backside.
Yes that was sneaky also! 100% I’m doing the same, thanks for commenting, appreciated 👍👍
