    Unbelievable. I followed the steps for both the BIOS And windows 10 on my ThinkPad laptop, restarted and went back to one of my problematic Cubase sessions, Where I previously had to freeze all my plug-ins and run through hoops to make it work.. And boom! It’s like I now have a brand new machine! I cannot possibly thank you enough for this. You’re the best 🤘

    Thank you ever so much for this video, David. I used the same BIOS settings beside of turning of the Hyper Threading since Studio One has no issue with HT. The S1 performance meter shows only half the resource consumption and is stable now. No more CPU spikes. Awesome!

    Thanks for this! I just went from W7 to W10 so that was very helpful. I also hated the W10 start menu at first. Then I realised it was very customisable, you can remove everything you don't want and put any shortcuts you want. It's actually pretty good!

    KUDOS to you for making such critical info available to DAW users in an understandable form. I have a similar system to yours and it NEVER goes online other than to install upgrades direct from the vendor site. I don't install any unnecessary software as it is a dedicated studio machine. One thing I would suggest if using the machine online for browsing is to use BRAVE free browser as using Google browser puts any machine at risk not to mention the personal info you are giving up. GREAT WORK!!

    Although I do not use PT any more (Cubase), there was one trick commonly used in gaming I used to do if the multicore was not spread even in a session and that was to disable core Zero (first core), this then spreads the workloads and leaves core zero to be used by Windows. You do this by setting affinity in the task manager on the PT process, it resets itself the next time u boot up PT...

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can't do that anymore. They took that possibility away from PT at version 10 or 11, no affinity, no cores disabled, you set it and soon as pt starts takes over and out everything back to normal

    from Cubase forum:
    1- Hyperthreading is a feature of Intel’s CPU platform. Hyperthreading effectively creates logical cores that do not exist as physical cores inside the CPU. Therefore when HT is activated the OS sees, and the OS scheduler can play with, double the count of logical cores than the amount of physical cores on the CPU ;
    2- considering the same heavily multi-threaded computational scenario an identical hardware core frequency and core IPC, we know that 8 logical cores out of 8 physical cores CPU will always perform much better than 8 logical cores out of 4 hardware cores CPU Hyperthreaded to a total of 8 logical cores ; moreover, the 4 physical core CPU will almost always perform better with HT activated (8 logical cores) compared to HT disabled (4 logical cores). The exceptions to this general rule are the very old, early generations of Intel’s HT implementations and Windows scheduler implementations (prior to Win 7). Of course the gain from HT (10-15% typical) is of course much less compared to doubling the physical core count on the CPU (duh!) ;
    3- different OS thread scheduler implementations will react differently to an app’s dynamic usage of multiple threads; Microsoft’s scheduler is one thing, Apple’s is another;
    4- applications are not programmed to “use” or “not use” Hyperthreading ; the OS sees the amount of logical cores that the CPU provides it with, and apps are going to be provided with CPU time on said logical cores according to how the OS’ scheduler schedules the entire pool of threads, of course up to the limit of threads that each app can internally use. In other words those apps that are still single-threaded are still going to use a single thread on a single logical core on a single physical core, apps that can only deal with 4 threads will still use 4 threads, etc. ;
    5- a higher count of physical cores, and to a lesser, but still significative extent, a higher count of logical cores due to HT, will both improve computational performance in a multithread scenario, as a whole at the OS level ;
    6- HT has been shown before to improve multi-threading in DAW benchmarks.

    XMP Profiles (or DOCP for AMD) no only are safe, they're absolutely necessary for the RAM to run at the speeds their boxes say. I don't get why motherboards don't automatically enable those profiles.

    Google “Group Policy Windows 10 delay updates”.
    If you use Group Policy settings, you can still delay windows 10 updates like you used to with Win 10 Pro. For example, I delay “build updates” (big Windows 10 version updates) by like 6 months and quality updates by around 1 month beyond the public release date.

    The reason why you couldn´t apply other peoples settings is because every single CPU is different and different quality even if it´s the same model.
    Disabling hyperthreading can give you more single-core performance and that gives you less latency or more plugins to run on one core. Especilally on tdp and shitty cooling limited devices like my laptop with i7-8750h it made a big difference.

  • @christophervanzetta
    @christophervanzetta 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Haven't tinkered with overclocking in years but if you lock your cores in the BIOS and gradually under volt, you can reduce your CPU temps by 10 to 20c depending on your cooling and fan speeds.
    Of course it'll take time to find a sweet spot with stability depending on your setup.

  • @christianwn
    @christianwn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do not use the normal Nvidia Driver, the normal driver causes pop and click when you open and close plugins etc, instead use a card that support the Studio driver. This has huge impact.
    Also enable msi interrupt mode on Nvidia cards with a tool like: msi mode utility.
    For lowest possible latency.

    I”m a musician. Ikve recently found out that I need to be able to switch off “Turbo Mode” and “Connected Standby” in reg edit within Windows.Without the ability to do this, any Windows laptop will be of no use to me, due to the constant power grabs that these codes are used for. If I cannot turn off Turbo mode then I will get clicks/pops in my audio/and constant “throttling” . I need maximum (or near) power resources going to my Cubase/Logic/Ableton software. According to info received, Microsoft have completely removed the ability to do this in it’s latest 2014 software update.
    Do you know a way around this prob? I believe the new software just gives you a “slider” labelled something like More-Less! This is a big problem for audio professionals using DAWs. Any help would be v much appreciated!

      A q:
      I started using an external recorder to 'Print' my mix,, because I SWEAR offline bouncing or even offline realtime bouncing just doesn't end up sounding how I'm hearing it in the DAW. Also if I re-route and record back in daw, this is not ideal as id like to capture at best sample rate.
      Im in Studio One, maybe this problem isn't in Protools. But its been a reoccurring theme with me with cubase reason studio one (reaper is quite good though) so I like to record the mix to a tascam da3000 and I end up with my mix sounding exactly how it did when I was in the daw. I guess best is to do what you all do and 'PRINT' re-record the output back into the daw.
      But my question is,, I hope your PC windows 10 system allows you to record the mix from Protools to an app like 'audio hijack' but without dropouts or clicks random annoying pops etc. I'm on Mac, but Im going to build a PC very shortly!! :) I reckon it could be a Mac thing,,, I TRY AND RECORD MY MIX into an app like 'audio hijack' whilst Studio one is open ands playing mix - but if I have 'audio hijack' open suddenly random clicks pops stuff randomly occasionally gets recorded also. I suppose it could be my sound card but Im using uad Apollo x6. I honesty reckon a setup pc maybe I won't have these problems, my 2012 Mac Pro (darth faders' dustin design) isn't up for the modern task maybe even though the ssd is the new fast MVME.
      :
      Id be interested if you could record your mix from protools to an app of any kind for high quality wav recording without any annoying low clicks or pops etc.

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why you want to record into another app? And no PT sounds exactly the same online or offline, given that I mix analog so I can't do offline. But simply print into your DAW, send your master to an audio track and record exactly what you hear, is that simple

    • @chris-rb7bm
      @chris-rb7bm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks :)
      I think i need a modern computer - if i try and re-record inside the daw when my sample rate is locked to what the sources files were say 48k 24bit,, then that’s the best quality to capture it... ideally i’d like to capture it at 96k 24bit
      maybe i’m just being silly. I’ve watched videos on youtube on quality difference between 96k and 192k and have decided that 96 is best to capture atand anything less then you’re missing out. Maybe i’m totally wrong. 44k has a sound; so maybe just don’t worry about it and print off the mix re-routed from analog mains to a daw stereoaudio track.
      But on my 2013 mac i get pops and other random stuff so i will be building a pc!! Macs are cool and user friendly but it can’t handle what i throw at it!
      I watched your rock course really great tuition and insight into the way you operate your mixes,, and at the end i did see you re-recording the analog 2bus mix back into the daw, and many famous people i’ve watched on mixwithtgemasters do that; but sone people always record off to a dedicated laptop running a separate pt (cla) or record it off to a hard recorder like tascam da3000 (brauer).
      Currently my computer gives me random pops and sounds when i try and record the mix back in the daw on audio track, and i’m on highest buffer, so must be time to upgrade tech that is a decade old.
      (btw, if anyone uses apollo x6, please use the virtual output as the main daw output,, then on audio track select same virtual input to route it: my pops and random occasional disappointing sounds disappeared when i did this - before i was monitoring for uad MON. Do i highly recommend you change it to Virtual. I really like uad plugs as it’s been an excellent platform to learn tools with (!) i might say their stuff is rock solid but i’m not convinced with their audio ad/da, that’s why i also have an orion hd32!
      Time to build a pc for me!!
      Thanks for the awesome tips! I never thought to look on youtube to build a pc - it doesn’t look too bad! I’ll also use i9 990k and same other bits!

      I hate mac and actually the newer ones have issues utilizing all the power with Pro Tools, we have mac in our other studio.

    Hello! Thank u for this info. Is really useful for me. 🔥
    I have a question that has nothing to do with this tutorial, but you or someone may know to help me. I need some simple information.
    I want to buy "Universal Audio UAD-2 Quad" to be able to use UAD plugins, but I want to parest my Focusrite Saffire 26 sound card. Do you think UAD is likely to have a conflict with Focusrite when do I record or mix?

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should be able to connect via ADAT without problems but your master probably needs to be the UAD, but I'm not sure, don't have nor use either brand. You want an external clock tho'

    You can disable windows updates by disable it on "services" page. Go to "home" and Type "Run" and "services.msc" in the run window, then find it as "windows update" (you can find it straight down on the list.) right click on it and go to "properties" disable it and stop the process. So Every time windows will try to auto update it self, it can't do it anymore. Just an advice, temporarily go and take a look if everything is still disabled, 'cause some times others "programs or services" will try activate again. Take it in mind. Is not as complicated as fu**k 😂😂 Greetings!!!

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, that's how I used to do it but they reactivate, actually, the service is stopped, but it still auto updates

      Hey just been mixing for about 40 minutes in pro tools 12.5 hd and getting a AA - 9129 error ( audio processing could not complete due to conflicts with other cpu tasks ) and so on ..? And I've just optimized my pc and windows 10 with these guidelines.
      My set up is hp z230 core 17
      Win 10 pro
      Focusrite pro 14
      Any solutions would be appreciated.
