    Hi, so its been a year. How’s the epoxy flooring doing? I hear many bad reviews so i wonder how’s yours?

    • @madsncakes
      @madsncakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question, I had the chance recently to check out a badly done one at half the price. It was really really bad. They approached metallic epoxy singapore to redo it again. So it really depends who is the one doing these and the materials and skillset matters. Mine is good so far. Easy to wash. I did drop the shower handle on the curb, where there is only primer and not epoxy. So it chipped off the primer a little. That's all. Still pretty happy with it.

    Thank you for the very honest review. And for warning me about not having gradient and the slippery texture. But I really cannot afford to mop-dry the floor all the time.

    • @madsncakes

      It has anti slip options but I opt out. They recommend to use the wiper at the end of the day only. But even with my old floor tiles.. I have the habit of mopping dry after the wiper. I added this as I think it is the best outcome and not a requirement

      @@madsncakes No matter how you wipe dry, it will still be wet when you shower unless you use that ugly rubber mat, which defeats the whole aesthetic purpose of the epoxy flooring.

    I like the epoxy coating look that give a refreshing feel and no hacking. But the fear of felling down as we age and the amount of money and time to heal is really a very big concern. High Risk but nice looking. To be honest, so far I have to say the HDB toilet floor tiles are the most safe one so far in team of anti-slip after comparing some.

      We actually wouldn’t recommend Epoxy Flakes for bathrooms where it’s constantly being exposed to harsh conditions and especially in our part of Asia where we experience a warmer climate.
      Epoxy Flakes system is a thin 2 layer system compared to the 5 layer system we are using in our Metallic Epoxy.
      It’s system works very similarly to wall paint where 2 scenarios will cause issues to happen;
      1) During a hot shower / warmer seasons, it causes air from the ground to rise beneath the Epoxy flakes causing bubbling
      2) Water seepage issues causing de lamination
      *Both scenarios above causes the epoxy flakes to start cracking and finally de lamination.
      *Disclaimer*
      We are not indicating that Epoxy Flakes System / companies doing Epoxy Flakes is a no go, but based our personal opinion that it’s not suitable for bathrooms in our part of Asia.
      Why so is because, we have personally tried and tested the system ourselves locally, and have redone many clients home (whom have previously installed epoxy flakes in Singapore, in which all are facing the same issues) with our Metallic Epoxy System.
      Our Metallic Epoxy System on the other hand is designed for this very purpose of withstanding fluctuating temperatures and harsh conditions where it’s constantly being exposed to water.
      We hope this info helps and will be glad to assist for any queries or technical questions 😊

    I am just wondering is it a material constraint that it couldn’t be made with a sliding gradient for water to flow to the drainage. I love the finishes but my toilet is more filled with things on the floor so drying it is not as easy.

    • @MetallicEpoxySingapore
      @MetallicEpoxySingapore 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes our products are in a liquid form during the course of installation thus unable to create a gradient for water to flow into the drainage.
      Looking back at common bathroom floorings, a reason why you’ll notice lesser water ponding is not because all the water has flowed into the drainage but because most have seeped into the grout lines / tiles causing the stains and deep grout lines.
      For water to fully flow into the drainage, you’ll require to have at least a gradient of high 30 degrees from all angles directed into the drainage for that to happen especially if you have a bigger bathroom.
      *However that’s not necessarily the case for most typical bathroom where the gradient is only a few degrees towards the direction of the drainage but not exactly towards the drain.
      Lastly it’s still depended on each and every individual preference for their type of floorings,
      but what we can provide is a flooring that will last a lifetime without stains, grout issues, enhanced waterproofing, anti slip and also a bathroom that is specially customized to every owner.
      We hope this info helps and will be glad to further assist if required 😊

      @@MetallicEpoxySingapore Thank you for the reply. Every material got its pros and cons. I do not mean that epoxy flooring is not good. I think mag made a very good video on it. I was initially wondering is it possible to make a bathtub using this material overlay a concrete tub. I want to know is it possible to lay it vertical. This explains why I was asking about the material constraints.
      Sorry, I was an civil engineer before I resigned so I shall also share my view on why is there a need for the sloping gradient. For practical reason, It is not possible to have 30 degree gradient. I dun think anyone will want to shower in such environment. The current gradient is to ensure a min water flow to near drainage and prevent water from stagnant on the floor.
      Lastly, I just want to say. This is an excellent product and Mag did a really neutral view on the product. I really like the her black flooring and also marble flooring in the video as well. But I think for me, I will need to redo my toilet if I want this flooring because it does not suit my living habits now. I don't mean anything it offensive.

      Epoxy paint unlike Epoxy Overlay/Coating will chip and wear out overtime. They're both using different materials after all so Epoxy paint isn't recommended in my opinion.

      Hi just to clarify, we have anti slip specially for bathroom floorings and it’s a recommend finish that we advise every client to go for.
      *Not slippery even with soap and water (You may drop by our showroom to try it for yourself)
      Also our anti slip does not wear off easily as our floors do not require heavy scrubbing to keep clean (Due to its grout free, stain and water free surface) which wears off most anti slip finishes in the current market.
      The typical lifespan of our anti slip is between 8-15 years where we would recommend a recoat which is easily done within half a day and may be used on the very next day.

    • @MetallicEpoxySingapore
      @MetallicEpoxySingapore 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not impossible, our partners abroad do that, but we do not practice it locally because in order to achieve a gradient, we just have to use much lesser product then what we normally use which in turn will cause quality, durability and design concerns which is a top priority especially in Asian countries and not abroad where they are used to diy and regularly shifting homes.

      Hi, it’s actually impossible for our current technology to do so, due to the fact that the products used are in liquid form during the course of installation
      Nevertheless, we always believe that every products has its flaws, however comparing the concern of water flow after usage to the stains, deep grout lines and even difficult maintenance with traditional materials, our clients would still prefer the additional step of pushing the remaining water compared to the latter issues, as even if you do not clean the bathroom regularly, the floors will not be affected as it is so durable, it will be as good as new once you perform a clean up as shown in the video above.

      @MetallicEpoxySingapore 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just to clarify, we do not believe in overpricing our services but more towards providing a service for those whom are seeking a high quality product & workmanship.
      In fact, if you are to order the correct materials to do it yourself, btw it’s 6 different types of products even for a bathroom floor (assuming you would know the different layers required, right quantity, calculations, timing, equipments, protection, mixture & skillset) it would cost at least 2 times what we are charging (Yes we did the calculations prior to the way we charge & noting that reputable manufacturers do not sell small quantities per product)
      As mostly mentioned above, the bulk of the cost comes from the high quality materials & skilled manpower for the job. (Not even including the cost to operate a business in Singapore)
      Moving on where mentioned it’s too expensive, it really depends on how one’s perspective is, (For eg. A $10 western meal may be considered expensive in a food court but considered cheap / reasonable in a high end hotel restaurant)
      Coming back to our price of our services.
      If anyone is looking to do something to your bathrooms there are only 2 other possible options.
      1) Hacking & retiling ($5k - $15k/bathroom depending on QUALITY of materials used)
      *Not forgetting to add the additional cost of fittings
      - You might have to delay your renovation up to a month for proper waterproofing, drying time and if you are living in, you will have to endure the noise, dust, smell and hassle.
      2) Overlaying ($2k - $10k/ bathroom depending on QUALITY of materials used)
      - Based PURELY on feedbacks and experience from past clients, issues such as popping, falling tiles may highly occur when the thin cement holding tiles face concerns due to fluctuations of temperatures & / or moisture. If water were to seep beneath the overlaid tiles, via grout lines smelly bathrooms and popping of tiles will occur.
      *Keeping in mind, for both options, existing problems such as dirty grout lines, stains etc will still come back.
      Lastly we what we are able to provide is a one time investment that will not only last you a lifetime, but also super easy to clean without the above issues and not forgetting it’s gonna be customized to your preference that no other materials can achieve.
      *This message is not targeted towards any specific companies or person but an opinion / awareness from our end.
