The choice of glass shelves surprises me for the sound reverberation.

Nice ..... great to see your skills applied to non speaker builds! Glass looks awesome 👌

Great work! I'm convinced that the open structure helps with the sound(stage) 👌

Wood finish is impressive, a nice satin look.

If you want to get a different color in the side of the glass in the future, you can buy sheets of low iron glass for a more pure blue tone, leaded glass for a greyish tone, or borosilicate glass for a bright teal/turquoise color. Unfortunately, you have to leave the common glass types if you want to go for a white tone, typically quartz crystal, which is decidedly not worth the expense. Glass is a fascinating material that most people don't put nearly enough thought into.

Yeah, I had a few options, but I preferred the slight green tint for a more classic look, and it is the most common so more cost effective.

Do you build hi fi racks for others ?

Incredible! Can I assume tempered glass? I'm considering a change to my rack and I love this design. One of my amplifiers weighs in at 40.8kg (90 lbs), so I am concerned about the glass holding this weight.

Thanks. Yes, the 8mm glass is tempered. For such a weighty amp I would suggest thicker glass, maybe 10 or 12mm, and then you will need something more substantial and permanent than the 5mm shelf pins that I have used in this build. I have not tested the weight capability of this design, but will imagine around 15 to 20kg per shelf is what I will be comfortable with.

@@SoundBlab @Craig Lafferty It would be easier, assuming that only one part of the source stack grossly exceeds the weight bearing capacity of the glass and mounting pins, to put it on a solid lower shelf on the bottom of the unit. It would also make the whole thing more stable by putting the weight lower in the cabinet.

      That makes sense.

Hay Audiophile Guy. Glass looks nice. But you never use it in stereos. Vibration , can break Many problems .
Every guy who has a bunch of tools builds a nice book shelf.
