This video was unintentionally setup as the perfect hero's journey story. Ryu gets owned by ring man in the beginning. Then, he slowly but surely builds his strength and confidence and completely obliterates him with his newly honed skills.
I feel like Ryu uses the frustration of failing at NES games much more constructively than most. He vows to learn from the mistake and apply what he learned from dying. As a kid, I would just get angrier, try to bulldoze my way through and die 10 more times before rage quitting lol!
@@jeffreykern6235 Ryu said he thought it was a oddly activated save state but I think it was probably something more associated with how the game assigns RAM variables, like the “wrong warp” glitch Mario speedrunners use in World 4-2. I’m probably wrong though.
Another thing about Pharoah shot... If you let it charge the shot that appears above MMs head can be used as an attack. The charged shot is still stored and will then fire when the button is released.

Speaking about Megaman maker, they are releasing a new update 1.8 soon! It includes content from MM 1 up to MM 11 and content from the gameboy games and even wily bosses ;)
I wouldn't call never even looking at the power ups when it's the first time ever playing it LOVE. More like immediate arrogance, and he's not even decent enough to put no power ups run in his title.
I remember playing this for the first time with a friend in middle school during a sleepover. We stayed up all night to beat it, it definitely was tougher than we were expecting, after Megaman 3.
First Mega Man I played was 6. After that I went back and played 4 and 5 before branching out and trying the rest. So those are, like, the *standard* Mega Man games for me.
Glad you enjoyed this game! 2, 3, 4, and 5 were my favorites for a long time. 1 was especially challenging since E-Tanks, sliding and charging hadn't been invented yet. 6 just felt like the developers were kind of tired... but 7 became a new favorite when it came out for SNES! 8 on the PlayStation took some getting used to without E-Tanks and a limit to what could be bought at the shop. All five of the Game Boy games were awesome, although 2 was outsourced to a different company than the other 4 and kind of suffered in the general sound and feel. When Mega Man 9 and 10 came out, and two of Mega Man's staple abilities since 3 and 4 were GONE without any story explanation, it definitely had me going "What were they thinking?!", although both had other elements which still made them enjoyable. Mega Man 11 was the needed upgrade for the series that 7 was back in the SNES day... though the other playable characters from 9 and 10 could have at least made cameo appearances... Finally, if you ever get a chance to play Mega Man Battle & Chase, I highly recommend it!
Brightman's weapon vs Pharaoh Man actually makes sense. Pharaohman is a based on a figure from the past. And Brightman's weapon is a time-related weapon. So you basically beat it with time. Its a stretch but its an explanation that works. Glad you enjoyed the game Ryu, Megaman 4 is a long game, but its such a great one.

I dont want to be that guy 🤓, but Bright Man’s Weapon isn’t actually time-related, it does look like so, but it isn’t. What actually happens is that Bright Man uses the bulb of his head to make a Light Flash, so powerful, that the robot’s systems have to shutdown momentarily to prevent damages, but because of the NES limitations, they just made them freeze
It's predictable now, but back in 1991 it came as quite the shock to have Dr. Wily back from the dead and manipulating Cossack. My favorite of the series with some great weapons and utilities like the Balloon.
Maybe it’s because I’m old but….why hold the controller like that? I mean, does it help get more presses per second in on the fire button? Seems awkward. Great video and an awesome game, but I couldn’t help every time I glanced at the controller, just had a cringe moment.
Whoa!! DUDE!! You beat the second Wily battle on the FIRST TRY?!?! "You are so cool! I'm not worthy!! I'm not worthy!!". Getting that pixel-perfect shot while jumping was ALWAYS difficult for me! When I first played this game, the only way I could figure to hit that blue orb was with the Wire Adapter (yes, it does damage to enemies above you). And by an accidental fluke, I found out you can charge your Mega Buster, pause, switch to Balloon Adapter to line up the shot, switch back to Mega Buster, and release the Charge Shot into the orb. For YEARS those were the only two methods I knew for beating the second Wily battle. A little more recently, I found out another method to beat him is using the Drill Bomb - BUT you have to press the B button again after firing it to detonate it BEFORE it hits the blue orb on the Wily Machine, or it'll just bounce right off like everything else. Kudos to you again for Buster-Only first try! You're a GAMER!
4 was always considered the easiest one due to it's generous 1-ups and overpowered charge blast. I personally like 5 over 4 but all classic mega man games are great!

Music taste is just as subjective of a matter as comedy, but MM4 soundtrack is fantastic. Then again, much like almost any other MM game, i played MM4 a billion times, so there's that.
Dive Man is annoying until you learn he's not random at all. His behavior is pretty set in stone, he reacts based on your distance to him. Fires his torpedoes a few times then dives at you. You want to just buster at him, to clear the torpedoes as they get fired, then jump over and quickly slide far away from him and repeat. He will stick to that loop every time if you do it that way.
Recommend order only I remember i cant get to bright man after killing toad man so i just go to pharaoh man and kill him with the mega busterthen i kill bright man

The stage select menu music - fantastic. It, and that showers stage gives off the vibe that you don't know what's gonna happen next.
I rented this game so, so many times from my local video rental store. I always sucked at it. Then bought Mega Man 6 and was able to beat it and felt I was good at Mega Man. Then I realized MM6 was just easy.

The signal was definitely coming and going. Lots of black screen during the stream. It's hella weird. Also, not going back to the get the Dive Man level secret gave me uncomfortable feelings. It's weird seeing someone play the game without the wire. EDIT: Mega Man 5 is really good. I do really enjoy it. Mega Man 4 and 5 were the first Mega Man games I owned for NES.
This is also why he stopped playing the Wily Wars. It's so awesome for those last bonus stages, you can pick any weapons you want from any of the three games, but since Ryu hates weapons so much he just bailed on the whole game from that point on. When he returns I'm sure it'll be buster only.
Skull Man is the best first stage for any play due to the E-tanks you can reliably get each run. That makes the rest of the game a breeze. Toad Man is good to get early too without trouble, and the powerup can prove useful in the rest of the game too.
This is my favorite MM game! it has the best version of the buster (can immediately recharge instead of have to fire again. You didn't take advantage of that), the reversible slide (which you also didn't do), fun weapons, I actually think it has the best music too! (I know your disagree). Thanks for doing this game, it brings back memories! Btw you can use ring on the last boss too. You just missed when you thought you hit him. In general, using the variety of weapons transforms this game. I think you should play it again while using them even throughout the levels. You also missed the wire, which is in the Dive Man stage when you purposely fall down the random hole after the second whale

As seen here it sometimes pushes the hardware too far, causing slowdown/lag. Still my favorite of the series though.

It was a save state, you can tell from looking at his weapons power states.

I like to close my eyes while Ryu is talking and imagine him with a beard. It reminds me of when I used to think the world was real.

MegaMan 4 was my first MM game that I owned for my NES (and beat) and I do not remember it lagging so much.
I'm only at Toadman in the stream, but everytime there was a big enemy on the screen when I had it on NES, it was laggy, but not unplayable.

That's funny, I think that description fits way more for 5 than 4. 4 is definitely more difficult than 5 although both are pretty easy.

in Kosseck level 1 as soon as you start in the snow go left and get the hidden E tank in the snow, you also missed the wire weapon in dive mans stage
Last boss of Wily was often limited to only one shot -- MM2 required bubbles, MM3 was snake.
