It blows because the new 2021 Touareg R looks badass and packs 455 HP. It's also backed by a hybrid assistance unit too. Just think how rad it would feel.
The Touareg is still available in a new generation outside of the US. I guess VAG doesn't want to canibalize Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne sales in the US (which are built on the same platform). In the long run VW probably makes an error, as they did with the delaid VW Arteon lauch, which was availiable for quite some time in Europe (just started in the US). Furthermore they did not develop a Turbo VR6 engine which would have helped Golf R, Arteon R, Tiguan R as well as Atlas and US-Passat (both of which are not sold in Europe) sales in the US and for enthousiasts in Europe. Again in sight of stingent EU emissions regulations I would have been an investment but very much worth the effort for image and brand identity purposes (much like the Kia Stinger 3.3-Turbo V6 is).

They also aren't being as cheap about it as GM, they look much more distinctive than GMs badge jobs, eg the golf r is a hatch where the S3 is a sedan, the Q5 and Macan look completely different even in silhouette. GM would use the same body in white and just change things like the hood and bumpers while VW cross platforms the underpinnings and uses completely different body stampings. There was an article about it in Christophorus ages ago. Then the money coming in from Cayenne also financed the federalization of the GT3 and funded the Carrera GT project.

The Tueareg (whatever) in the US was discontinued in favor of the Atlas and Tiguan. An over-engineered nightmare, I knew someone that sold it simple because it was in the shop every three months. “I would never drive an SUV” - every car enthusiast who never had to put a 40 lb child into a car seat in an E63 wagon.
Get a minivan. Even then, I don't see your point.
@@kirbyswarp It’s much easier to load kids into car seats at SUV height. And you can get a RWD-based SUV with perfect weight balance that drives better than 95% of cars on the road and better than every 60/40 weight distribution FWD-based minivan.
i think i can write at least 5 pages of comments to summ of every topic and little topics talked in this video :) I love how your train of thought constantly derails :)
What brand and model is the blue shirt Jason is wearing please? It is just what I am looking for. Thanks
Rolls Cullinan has a V12 as well
Honda Element manual neglected guys?
I was eating chips and salsa when watching this so couldn't hear the audio too well and at 3:21 I thought Jason said "Have you ever had an STD?"
Watching this in 2024, it's interesting how Jason's view of 992 Porsche has changed with the GT3's and the S/T's arrival.
No mention of the current truck like suvs? Lexus and toyota still sells one of the most capable, simple and reliable body on frame suvs lol. 4runner, gx, lx, and land cruiser?
Incorrect on the Touareg. 2017 was the last model year (in the US).
I’m still a very young driver and my parents have a 2018 Toyota 4Runner and a 2018 Audi RS3, I hate driving the 4Runner, I feel too big, I feel unnecessary, it feels dumb and stupid, that RS3 is a treat to me as it’s super easy to handle around town, it’s small, it’s fast if I need it, I’d much rather a golf or a really small hatch over an SUV
The Tueareg (whatever) in the US was discontinued in favor of the Atlas and Tiguan. An over-engineered nightmare, I knew someone that sold it simple because it was in the shop every three months. Great looking car, lovely to see on the road compared to the hideous swollen-frog design of the 1st gen Cayenne. Still, the Cayenne saved Porsche which in turn saved the 911 and 718. Yay SUVs!
@5:00 - That clip is INSANE
Jeep Cherokee. XJ. love mine. But its lifted and all that fun stuff
Yes 2 years old butt,
Is copper a brown? The fleet of Turbine Chryslers. Those curves with that color. Beautiful
I consider myself and my wife "car people" and our current stable consists of: Focus RS, ND Miata, and TRD Pro 4Runner (arguably a "truck" as well in the context of this conversation).
Nice.
Finally got the internet working in my bunker. First thing I am going to watch!
Say safe every one!
I heard the Urus was it’s own platform? That it did share some pieces but it was overall designed as its own thing and than became shared with the Q8
The a pillar rake and the pedal placement is exactly the same as the other cars on the MLB platform i.e Volkswagen Touareg.
the Macan isn't based on the Tiguan and Q3? my girlfriend has a '16 Tiguan R line and it actually handles incredibly well on twisty roads.
I can't imagine Derek's reaction if Jason would have said "bollard, you mean mallard, that's a 🦆".
Toyota also took the cavalier and slapped a Toyota badge on it for Japan
True.
45;50 Suzuki Samurai was renamed, in a John Lescroart novel, as the Suzuki Seppuku, for it's propensity to suicide by rolling over.
An authentic suv in my mind most be truck based or have a solid axle or preferably two. Also I have a Wagoneer and a Jeep WJ I would consider those to be authentic suvs.
A Cimarron was based on the Euro Opel Ascona C. This is actually funny ;)
when's the next car video!!! we miss them, the gt500 video was a huge tease for this channel! lets make some more great ones guys!!
I would be ecstatic if the Urus were to be lambo V10s front-engined. That just made lambo swapping any front-engine rwd whatever easier. Also Peter Björk is swapping an even-firing V10s into his Volvo Wagen
