    I always tell people one isn’t better than the other. Rolex Submariner does some things better, while the SMP 300 does other things better than the sub. There’s pros and cons with both. My biggest issue with the SMP is the case size and non-tapering bracelet. I want to buy it at the AD last week, but it’s too large. Bought the Pelagos 39 instead

    • @DougsPerspective

      Mine came with buckle (which is fine), but I would have preferred deployment if it was available. The deployment version can only be purchased (at this time) as a second strap. I did purchase the Omega mesh bracelet for this watch and it has the deployment - which is awesome!

    Wow, what an amazing video. Oh, I also hate you Doug for making me reconsider not selling this exact same SMP300 on rubber 😂. So, I've had this exact watch for about a year now. It's been fantastic. Like you said, melts on the wrist and keeps impeccable time. Tough as a tank. Ive recently acquired a brand new 124060. I love both the sub and the smp. However, I've felt that there's too much overlap now. Two iconic divers. But I only need one, right? So I figured I'd sell the SMP300 (since I like them both equally but the sub was much harder to get and retains value better) which would allow me to use the funds of the SMP300 for another watch from another brand that I haven't yet tried like IWC or Glashutte Original. I decided to stop wearing the SMP300 to preserve the condition its in until I listed it for sale. It has sat in that damn watchbox for 3 months now. For whatever reason, every time I try to talk myself into listing it, I can't. And i think it's because I can't think of a single watch that I could get over the SMP300, that's under $5k, that would provide a better fit, finish, technologically impressive movement, and history. Sure, maybe I could get a Mark XX from IWC or one of the new Breitling GMTs (eta modified movements), but cmon. They still cant compete with the SMP300. Soooo...damn you! I think you may have been the final nail on the coffin that I needed to solidify keeping it.

    • @DougsPerspective
      @DougsPerspective  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Steel Steez, I'm glad to have complicated it for you ... ha ha ha! Actually, you can't go wrong with either as a "one and only." But to be honest, if I owned both and could only have one, it would be the Sub.

      Thanks Sammy! I do agree with you the Sub has perfect proportions and I wish the SMP was a bit thinner too.

  • @tab3Gator
    @tab3Gator หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Never liked the SMP. Looks good for a younger person with the bigger wrists, but the Sub is far more mature and classic in design. And the scalloped bezel on the SMP makes using the bezel difficult under normal conditions and damn near impossible when hands are wet. Finally, the SMP is better off bracelet because it does not taper while the Sub’s is perfect. But….the SMP wins in price, for sure.

    • @DougsPerspective
      @DougsPerspective  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I understand your position. And if I could only keep one … I would keep my green bezel Sub. But the SMP is still an incredible watch and DEFINITELY the second choice for me over any other diver (Blancpain, etc). You are correct, the SMP is a bit beefier vs the Sub and looks better on a larger wrist (7+ inch). I recently took my SMP on a two week Mediterranean cruise through Italy, Greece, and Malta and it was the perfect watch. I would have felt more self conscious wearing my “Starbucks” with all of the negative attention it could garner. I am fortunate to have multiple nice watches (3 Rolex, 1 SMP, 1 Cartier Santos, 1 Grand Seiko, and 1 Tag Heuer Monaco) so I wear different watches for different moods & situations.

    Just wait a few months until the AR coating on the Omega is all scuffed and scratched up. It's also not covered under Omega warranty. My only big gripe with Omega. They put AR coating on the outside of the crystal. Other than that, they are great watches in almost every way compared to Rolex.

      Hey Captain Z, I agree, I don’t like that Omega uses AR coating on the outside of the crystal. No problems with mine. Interestingly, I had a Skyfall AT a few years ago and the AR coating did scratch and Omega DID replace the entire crystal for free under warranty.

But I wanted this watch to be more understated as I plan on it being my travel watch (and when I don’t want to have something like a Rolex on my wrist). Hi Doug, I have been enjoying your videos! Both watches are iconic and great in their own way. Do consider the stunning mesh-bracelet made by the german brand „Staib“ which you can find online. I have recently purchased it for my SMP diver and it is from it’s quality as good as it gets and it looks better than the original Omega mesh, which in my opinion has the problem with the thickness of the overlapping band on the inner side under the clasp. It costs also much less…

    • @DougsPerspective
      @DougsPerspective  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Anthony - thank you for your nice comments! Interestingly, I am very much considering the Staib mesh instead of Omega’s mesh. Which version do you own? I’ve watched a few reviews and not sure which version to get. I look forward to your advice!

    • @anthonykelhen7048
      @anthonykelhen7048 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello Doug, I recently purchased the Staib ref. 2792 with the Butterfly-clasp, in 20mm width and in 150mm length that fits my 18cm (about 7 inch) wrist just fine with not much tolerance. For your wrist I would advise you to go with the 170mm length and adjust it by taking out a couple links from the clasp which will make it look even better since the clasp will get shorter and you will see more of the beautifully finished band. The links on the clasp are easy to get out and they are quite thin which will allow a perfect fit. Btw it is the only way to adjust the length of the bracelet. I can tell you that I am totally happy with the band especially because it has not the holes and that chunky clasp like the OEM-bracelet and it’s quality and finishing is just as good. It looks like it was made only for the Seamaster Diver.
      I own the original Omega rubber-band with the folding clasp as well, which is outstandingly comfortable but the Staib just looks amazingly elegant and sporty at the same time. I hope I could give you some helpful information! Thanks for your awesome videos and keep having fun with this wonderful never-out-of-time-hobby!

    All watch people are hype people to an extent. The name matters to an extent to all people that spend over 500 on a warltch. If Invicta made a watch that 10 mm thick, WR to 10,000 m , and 30,000 gauss, and power reserve of 200 hours and charged 10k no one would buy it.
    Have rolex sd 43 and omega diver chronograph as don't like the sub or sm300 both boring and too small but comparing my rolex and omega is somewhat pointless. Love them both. The omega feels far more durable and high quality much prefer the omega bracelet as the sd 43 bracelet while a bit more elegant is a bit too tapered and thin for sd 43m sd 43 is far far more prone to scratches. Prefer the clasp adjustment on the omega as its faster and feels much more sturdy. Love the cyclops on the sd 43. Sub is definitely boring and was shocked at how small it is first tine saw in person . Frankly on my 7.5 or wrist and muscular build it looks borderline feminine

Every brand and model will experience bracelets randomly breaking. Don't care if it's a 300 dollar watch or 30k watch. To use that as the basis as to why the submariner is better is just pretty silly if im being honest. And yes, I own both the modern SMP300 and the current sub so i can speak from actual experience.
