He's the most naturally gifted player since Federer. He just doesn't have the mental drive to achieve greatness. He just doesn't want it. I can't really blame him. He's a multimillionaire in his 20s. He gets to travel the world and do what he wants. I wouldn't have minded spending my 20s like him

This is the problem that all of the top 100 players have. They are all millionaires thanks to Fed popularizing tennis. And none of them have to win majors to achieve it. You just have to show up to match and collect a big check. Winning is nice but not required. And that's why very few can challenge Joker or Nadal in majors. It's pitiful and very sad. It's a very weak era for tennis.

Oil and water ......talent and arrogance ......they don't mix well.
Most people simply don't like to watch this kind of character .....but then ....there are a lot of people who DO like this kind of character.
Keep in mind, these are single clips of different matches, over a long period of time. During a match, there can be what appears to be one very amazing shot .....but in fact it is simply being in the right place at the right time, or "guessing"/"anticipating" correctly ....and willing to commit and be prepared ....which these pros do EVERY match. It is just the reaction after a single great shot that is in question. Celebrating after one shot is quite ridiculous when it is the single match winner that is important. This is one reason why Federer is/was so good. There was very little to celebrate until the match was won. That's CLASS. Kyrgios, quite the opposite....CLASSLESS.

@@quentinhirschfeld9382 More than Alcaraz! Kyrgios can do (and has done) everything Carlos does with the racket. There are plenty of things Carlos can't do that Kyrgios can. There is no way you'll ever see Carlos do a SABR off a 130mph serve and end up with a return winner for example(more than once). Dimitrov is also more skillful with the racket than Carlos btw. It's just that Carlos at 19 has already worked 5 times harder than Kyrgios at 28. Put in way more hours already honing his craft and building his body. Doing everything the right way to get better. Kyrgios doesn't care to be great! He just wants to earn enough off his talent in tennis to live a comfortable life. If he did care to pursue greatness, he would have won at least 6 slams by now. Especially with that cheat serve of his!

I actually disagree with most people here. He can pull off crazy shots and has some formidable weapons. But consistency and mental strength are core tenants of a tennis player.
He doesn't have that. Therefore to me, he doesn't have "potential". I think he has the ability (as he showed in WInbledon) to get on a hot streak and try and blast his way through to a slam.
But that's his only hope. I think he knows that too.

Players like Kyrgios - he is not alone in this - have reached the ceiling of their potential much quicker than those willing to invest in themselves and explore possibilities to improve. Dedication and discipline to follow through on the willingness to improve, addresses a different talent than just the ability to hit some amazing shots. Some have that extra talent and it's them who leave the biggest mark.
Kyrgios unfortunately never showed the ability to change things in technique, approach.. mental preparation etc. Instead he cultivated the big child in him. Too many times he has shown to have a chip on his shoulder by arguing with just about anyone on and off the court; players, referees, people in the crowd and media; it only proved to underline how counterproductive his whole approach to tennis is/has been. Would love for him to turn things around and actually commit 100% over a lengthy period of time.

    I would rename your title:
"When Kyrgios is too lazy for tennis"
I guess this title tells everything about him.

The most important word in the title is "When". Too bad about the rest of the time. Kyrios has been on the tour for 10 years - he's a veteran - yet has only won 7 tournaments, none of them major. Statistically, in 70% of years, tennis is too easy for him for about a week per year. The other 51 weeks in the year, not so much.

Kyrgios is a one man tennis Harlem Globetrotters. He ought to just put on outrageous exhibition matches all year round to delight the paying public. Not sure who should be his Washington Generals-equivalent opponent, though. Ideally someone who looks by turns serious and angry, and ends up fuming at Kyrgios's antics. Maybe Benoit Paire. Carlos Ramos to umpire.
