    Alright, so this is my first ever all-comic essay so I tried my best to keep it visually interesting, but it's still quite rough (so I hope no one is too bothered by it). The next video may be Deadpool but it could also be something else, depending on what's finished first (I'm working on like 5 stuff right now).

    How'd I never realize how much Miles life was defined by randomness? He's randomly bitten by a super spider, his uncle dies in a random malfunction, was randomly chosen to get into a nice school, and his mother was killed by a random stray bullet. Hell, secret wars literally has a random act of kindness be the reason him, his family, friends, and even his dead mother come back in the new universe.
    I could definitely see people disliking that and seeing it as just a series of plot contrivances, but I really like it because it puts a spotlight on the things he can control. It shows that who you are is not defined by the cards life dealt you but rather what you do with what you're given. All Miles biggest successes and failures are a result not of random fate, but his responses to the chaos of the world. It really hits back to that old saying that anyone could be spider-man, there was nothing special about Miles outside of his father's past and his uncle's actions, yet he still rose to the heights of a genuine hero.

      That's part of the reason Miles didn't initially work as a character, he was very passive as opposed to Peter and in fact felt sometimes like a copy of the mentioned character rather than the one that stands alone as a person who makes active choices. It's only until Into The Spider-Verse and his current that models him a bit after Into the Spider-Verse that he became a much greater character and one that stands on his own in the greater Marvel Universe.

    I had huge nostalgia for the ultimate run when I started reading it in 2013-14 when I was as 13/14. It's my favourite spider-man run (next to 90's and superior spider-man). Then that run finished and miles morales started, and I loved that run too. but I recently read it over and I honestly thought it wasn't good. Having a black superhero was amazing to relate to especially cause spider-man is my favourite superhero next to the power rangers. But the run kinda sucked. The reason why I think so is that it was near the end of the ultimate universe and so much shit was thrown at him in so little time. And because since the universe ended, the run/his character feels rushed or incomplete. So watching this video (and future videos) will be interesting

    • @ussbridgefour4666

      I personally love the first few arcs with his Uncle and his Origins and even his introduction to the Ultimates but then Bendis held onto the Character for too long and it got really bad and was hard to read near the end of his run which sucks since Miles is one of my favorite characters. The good news is that Saladin Ahmed run has been really good so far even if I miss Sara Pichellis art.

      @@ussbridgefour4666 I liked his introduction the first time I read it, but then again, I was a middle schooler with no understanding of the larger ultimate universe. Looking back on it, there are a good few issues I take with everything.
      1) Nick Fury was too quick to accept Miles. Seriously, this kid is years younger than the last kid superhero he sanctioned (who DIED, I remind you) and he definitely doesn't have the brains Peter did to compensate for his lack of experience (though Peter was kind of a blockhead in this one too). Did Fury even work to train him? Seriously, I was led to believe Fury learned the dangers of mindlessly encouraging kid heroes or at least not trying to train them in Ultimate Fallout.
      I also don't like the previous cast pushing him to become a hero for the same reasons.

The action was comic book action, so nothing really to write home about unless you're some industry giant. I will always give Bendis credit for creating Miles and having honestly great ideas for the character, but I always felt he was growing bored of Miles. He constantly changed the status quo and always said "this is Miles' Uncle Ben moment (he said it about Peter's death, then Aaron's, then Rio). I felt he had some good ideas but he was burn out with the character and also didn't want to bother people (I still remember the controversy around Miles saying he didn't want to be "the black Spider-Man" and how there were a bunch of people saying that was Bendis not understanding his own character). But I really liked him in Ultimate, but when he went to 616 I honestly grew bored of his run, even Ganke (usually the best character) was boring, and the entire "Miles - Agent of SHIELD" was lazy AF. I'm glad he left the character and other writers had a chance to play with him and make him a better character. Bendis is the father of Miles (and Pichelli, hands down, draws the best Miles' costume) but sadly, he's not the best writer of the character.

    One thing that frustrates me about the two major non-comic works to be centered around Miles, those being Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Miles Morales on the PS4 and PS5, is how much of a big deal they make out of how "different" Miles is from Peter, despite his personality in those amounting more to Black Peter Parker. In this corner of the internet, there's plenty of debate over how obligated those making non-comic adaptations of Spider-Man are to be true to the spirit of the original comics, with the usual points being nostalgia for the Raimi movies making some fans hate the Webb and Watts movies too much, the original comics not really having as many of the things that people have nostalgia for the Raimi movies over as they thought, and the general paradox of hating when adaptations change things while also claiming to want newer and more creative story ideas. I can find things to like about most Spider-Man interpretations, and wouldn't mind Miles being depicted differently from how he's depicted in the comics, but that's not what Spider-Verse and the Insomniac games do. Miles in those works has a personality that's pretty much the same as Peter, yet they treat him being Afro-Latino and having living parents and a living uncle with very different jobs from May, Ben, Richard, and Mary Parker is somehow the same thing as an inherent personality difference. Such things definitely should create a different personality from Peter Parker, yet in that movie and those games, they talk a lot more about those differences than they actually show them. And while subjecting Miles' dad and/or uncle to adaptational heroism was probably alright to do for one of them, I really hope it doesn't become the norm for adaptations of Miles' supporting cast. It seems to suggest doubt that wider audiences can accept Black characters with significant character flaws and moral failings like Jefferson and Aaron Davis in the comics do, or much less inherent altruism than, well, really any major Spider-Person from a non-comic Spider-Man work, like Miles has. Just like Peter in the earlier comics is likely to be seen as jarringly selfish and judgmental by modern readers who grew up on things like Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland, and even Yuri Lowenthal's Insomniac Spider-Man, Miles in his earliest comics is likely to be seen as too whiny, self-centered, and possibly even cowardly by modern readers whk grew up on Shamiek Moore and Nadji Jeter's takes on the character. I hope that, once they get around to putting Miles in the MCU, they'll try to give him a distinctly different personality from Peter Parker, not just a different cultural and family situation, even if it's radically different from any version of Peter or Miles seen in any other media thus far, and I hope that they can make Miles' family members a lot more morally gray as well. It’s interesting because mile’s 3 big interpretations, comic, movie, video game. kill off different members of his family. I feel like different writers want to give him his own uncle Ben. That’s not a negative it’s just an observation. I think spider verse did the character the best but the comic’s get the credit for laying down a pretty good foundation.

      an “uncle ben” event is pretty common in comics, a close friend or family member dies and the hero is inspired to avenge them and do better towards others
      in the original comics, Miles “uncle ben moment” was Peter’s death

      Miles and Peter are different people.
      You like Miles, that is great. Good for you.
      But please don't belittle Peter.
      Peter's personality is the better part of why I like him so much. Much more so than Miles. That doesn't mean you should. The whole point of spider-man is that he can relatable to anyone, hence the quote afterall.
      Also, what do you mean by culture?(Honest question there)
      'Anyone can be Spider-man' isn't just referring to Spidey's powers, it also refers to one's struggles.
      And let's be honest, Peter's has been nothing but a constant struggle.

    I find the clones argument is null. Everyone is made/create/come to be without consent. The idea of not having parents isnt a new one. yeah she's a "clone" of one person but what does that mean in this universe? now im not saying her pain isnt real because lots of people who we'd call bless suffer. I know that last sentence kinda weakens my argument but it just seems like she's just making being a clone such a unique thing when living in a world of unique is the norms.

    • @aidanklobuchar1798

      Yeah, I always thought the real angst would be the whole "was a boy until a woke up in the body of girl" thing. I mean, from what I've seen, they do cover that a lot to, but you'd think that'd really over shadow the whole 'clone' bit. Though it was even stupider with Ben Riley. If two people of the same genetics and same memories, than why the angst? Who cares?

    • @rockmandzx
      @rockmandzx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aidanklobuchar1798 well, I'm not too familiar with any of the clone's story and I could understand it more if the female clones had memories of being Male and without consent is forced into a new body*. Technically she would of had a life before she was even born. This concept would be tough to get over if that was the case. I just think the idea of not having consents to coming into being weird when everyone real or not doesn't have concept (minus those umm special cases... lol).

    • @laststrike4411
      @laststrike4411 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rockmandzx If you don't know and I tell you, what's there to get upset about? And as for reasons:
      1) Most people tend to get born into the world from a loving family. Clones (these ones especially) are not.
      2) Babies aren't stuck with the memories of a past life (especially as a member of the opposite sex) right from the get-go. Jessica was the only person that got to be something other than a malfunctioned Peter Parker. They also don't have to deal with the fact that their entire "life" up until that point was essentially someone else's and that they were made to be living weapons.
      3) Biological dead-end. There were THREE rational clones of the entire bunch. One died within a night, the other was killed, and the last doesn't even know how long she'll be living for. As far as I know, this is even true to real life. If you've watched Blade Runner and are capable of understanding why being a Replicant is an existential nightmare, you can more or less understand the problem here too.
      4) Are you REALLY going to argue against the "abomination" point? On what grounds?
