    Well worth checking out the original that Rodgers recorded with Free in 1970 (47 years before this live recording).

    this man is my favourite singer of all time. He’s around 67 in this clip. No man sings like that in their 30s... he’s got the roar of a lion. his bluesy and soulful voice just hits My insides. Love your reaction young fella. You hear him and appreciate class. Great job, Steve from Aus 👍

    Yes! Reactors should have more Paul's live performances on their channels. One of the greatest to ever pick up a microphone.

    'Free Spirit' was name of the tour that Paul Rodgers did in 2017 to celebrate the 50 years since he started with the band Free. 'Be My Friend' was originally on their 'Highway' album in 1970.

    Adogg, you would love Paul Rogers Tribute to Muddy Waters. It's an album of Muddy songs with a slew of famous guest guitarists from every genre and Jason Bonham on drums. Even if you don't react to it, please give it a listen. Much love

    Paul's voice was better in his early free days alot more soulful grittier and raw later years his voice became more polished and lost that rawness

    • @johnr8095
      @johnr8095 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I would disagree. He still has the grit. He is just more nuanced with it. Some of the earlier free songs he was rawer but on be my friend for example he had already done a more polished version of his voice. He could always do smooth as well as rough in his voice. So, for example on a song like Come together I’m the morning he had almost no grit. Because the song didn’t call for it. That was still on free records. Also, on Be My Friend he does this same style. The early verses are very clean sounding then he gets gritty in the chorus and the last verses when he starts vamping.
      In bad company he would sing a verse in a smother style then bring grit in the chorus or on the last verse to lift the song.
      Also, he is now a 70 year old man. And he sings with almost as much grit as he did when he was 20. Most singers lose their voice when they’re that old. He still has it. He might have lost a little power, but not much.

      Don, I am a big free fan from the beginning & have to agree with you. Be my friend is one of my favourites along with love you so & I also like his younger voice better. He still has an amazing voice for his age, but this performance in my opinion with the altered pronunciation of the word friend is not a favourite. There was an old video of this song on TH-cam for a German channel where he alters the words a bit. That was in my opinion his best performance ever, but unfortunately it has been removed from TH-cam due to copyright reasons.

      I am not sure it was better, but I will always love his voice from the Free days. He may have improved his technique in later years, but the raw energy and soul of the Free recordings was incredible and set the blueprint for blues-rock singers that followed.

    • @Christatum411
      @Christatum411 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Still got plenty of grit and rawness. Everyone`s voice is better when they`re young but compare his current voice to any other 70 year old rocker (no contest). Nobody`s voice stays the same but his current voice would be the best of any current 20 year olds. Don`t be so critical
