    Hi! Do you use ATC 25 monitors in your studio?
    How do they perform in your space? I'm considering them for a 172 square foot room with an 8.5 foot ceiling and planning to add acoustic treatment. Do you think they would work well in this kind of environment?

    • @_philchoi
      @_philchoi  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      172 square foot room will work! Acoustic treatment will be important and I would say especially on the ceiling since your ceiling to floor is the shortest dimension

      @@_philchoi Thank you so much! I was initially considering ATC 45, but realized they might be too big for my room. What kind of treatment would you recommend for the ceiling? Should I install a cloud above the listening position or something more comprehensive?

    • @_philchoi
      @_philchoi  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@kanstprod2575 The 25’s have a lot of power and so I think those will be a nice addition to the size of your studio! Yes, i would try acoustic clouds over your mix position and leave an air gap. I’ve been using the GIK cloud brackets above my mix position and it really helped. even though cloud brackets are a bit tougher to install they’re worth it! I have another video on my channel that goes over the treatment i setup if you want to get an idea it’s called studio acoustic panel placement

    Thank you for your review. I also had them in my studio to try out. They are excellent monitors with a unbelievable mid range. The high's are very gentle and very detailed and open. They put each instrument on its own shelf and you can hear all the small details on each instruments sounds. It will tell you what is going on with everything from reverb tails to drums and vocals in a way not many monitors can do. The one thing I found however is they lack a cohesive sound of the music which every other speaker does for the most part. So to know how your mix will sound on regular speakers, you will need some good headphones are inexpensive smaller monitors. Have you found this issue with the ATC's as well or are you so used to working on them, that you know how they will sound in different stereos, Bluetooth and car stereos?

      Thanks so much for watching! Really appreciate your comment and also for taking the time to watch my video. I actually posted another video on my channel about an Auratone mixcube monitor that im using to reference my mix on playback devices like headphones, bluetooth, laptop speakers, etc. I agree with you, i found myself wanting to supplement my monitoring with a pair of speakers that mimicked consumer playback devices which is why i got the auratone. it’s been super helpful to check that what im doing on my ATC’s can also translate to other systems.

      @@_philchoi The ATC's are the most amazing monitors I ever heard. I am sorry I had to have them go, but I was so used to my Focal Twins for over 10 years. The learning curve for me on the ATC's would have taken me a couple of months. I ended up with the Focal Trio 6 's that cost thousands less, that offer mid separation, while still having some cohesive sound. They are very good monitors, but the ATC's honestly provide more detail while the Trios offer more low end bass. I rate the Trio 6's a 8.5, and the ATC's a 9.2. If the ATC's had more bass, I would rate them 9.5.

    • @_philchoi
      @_philchoi  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@revelationsoundstudio You’re so right about the learning curve on these! I upgraded from the ATC SCM 12’s and even that was a huge learning curve for me. I haven’t heard the Focal Trio but heard great things. Knowing your way around speakers will definitely help you get to your end destination faster and that’s invaluable so i’m glad to hear the Trio is working for you. I think the ATC SCM25A’s are the best 3 way speaker i’ve heard. It’s just tremendous in the way it delivers low mid and high frequencies. For extended low end on the 25’s you do have to move it around in your room to find the ideal spot for low end response in your room but every time someone says they wish these had more low end i can completely understand where they’re coming from.

    Do you use room correction like trinnov or dirac with them? I'm thinking of upgrading my kh120ii to scm25a. My room is treated but I got a 10db peak at 140hz which the ma1 systems solves perfectly.

    • @_philchoi
      @_philchoi  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s funny you mention that, I was just reading something this week where Chris Coady swore by Trinnov and I’m super curious about trying that out. Definitely open to Room correction but just haven’t had a chance yet to try it with my scm25’s yet. That’s awesome, anything that can handle a 10db peak like that must be a lifesaver. That’s cool that Neumann can offer that

    I also had this type of reaction from people listening from my sweet spot, my wife gets angry every time she listens to music sitting in my chair because she thinks it's unfair for people not having this type of experience everyday in their lives. But I don't have ATC's, one day maybe, maybe not hahaha, I have a pair of Yamaha's HS50M with a sub, but my room is REALLY treated, I invested most of the "upgrade money" during my career in room treatment (studies and materials) and I know my room sound way better than some with very expensive monitors (I generally end up tuning their rooms after they listen to my situation). And yes, I'll upgrade my monitors one day and I'll probably go ATC or something as midrangy, I'm also a mid forward guy. Congrats on your pair, I bet they are amazing!

    • @_philchoi
      @_philchoi  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I love that!! Once you hear how music is intended to sound there’s no turning back from that. Investing in acoustic treatment is so worth it and your listening environment will treat you well once you treat it well. If you like midrange you’ll love the ATC’s the midrange is beautiful. Thank you so much!! I spent a lot on the speakers and now it’s time for me to spend some more on the acoustics!

    Hey, I was just curious to see what people thought about the SCM25A. I actually received the new version MK2 yesterday and am waiting for the Sound Anchor JD2 (ummm I was going back n forth about spending over 1k for stands🤣)which will arrive next week. Question, what's the isolation pad you have on there and do you think it helps with the performance of the speakers? Good review btw but also, where is your damn room treatment???😁. I'm also in a home studio. Anyway I'm very excited to have some time off and mix with them!

    • @_philchoi
      @_philchoi  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hey, thanks for checking in, my ATC’s are on Sound Anchors ADJ2’s and they are incredibly well built and so freaking heavy! I got these isolation pads from a guy who custom makes them in LA. It was highly recommended by the guy i bought my atcs from. They’re basically concrete blocks that have other types of material joined together so that it reduces as much resonance as possible and really works.
      😂😂 the room treatment (not featured in the video) is filled with GIK 244s to the left, right, and above mix position. the empty wall space next to the speakers is because i had 2 GIK bass traps there but moved them directly behind me instead and it worked much better for my room. I’m gonna do some reviews of the ADJ2 and my GIK bass traps. Thanks for watching!!
