Amazing review! Had the exact same experience with them. Immediately heard that I had been overbaking my vocals and overdoing it with mix bus compression and was undermixing my bass and kicks. Also heard that I was leaving SO much stereo field in my mix unaccounted for. These really are the perfect production and mixing monitor for that $8k-14k budget, especially if you value detail and don't just want something to immediately impress a client / artist.

The ATC's, and other high-end monitors separate out the different instruments so you can hear and adjust them which can be very helpful; but they lack a cohesive sound. It takes a while to get used to that. I am sure once you get used to it, you will enjoy them more as you get to know the speakers in your room. In some way, the more cohesive sound of my Focal Twins I am more comfortable with. It's how all my listening experiences have been on every system I have worked on in the old days in pro studios and my personal listening systems.

I went to Vintage King last June to audition a whole range of near field monitors... secretly hoping to score a nice discount on a set of the SCM25A Mk 1s which were on sale since the Mark IIs had just come out. I got to test the two versions side by side, and WOW what a huge difference the new tweeter makes!!! So that counted out the Mk 1s sadly.
I also compared the ATCs against Adam A3Vs, Genelec 8351Bs, Focal Trio 6s and 11s, Barefoot Micromain 27s and 01s, PSI 2-ways and PMCs. After 4 hours of listening to all of these monitors, and considering DSP vs analog... I ended up buying the SCM25 Mark IIs. They have the most natural, pleasingly musical sound, while still being very flat. The bass was tight, the highs were airy and detailed and not fatiguing, and those legendary, brutally honest mid drivers are GOLD.
No DSP, no gimmicks, no underpowered class D amps.... just incredibly well designed and constructed monitors that present you with beautiful, accurate sound.
In my opinion, paired with a Trinnov in a well-treated room, ATCs are unrivaled.
    I could not be happier!

interesting read. I'm a seasoned mixer. been rockin PMC twotwo.6's for 7yrs or so now. but, what I notice is. they are slightly scooped and almost too great sounding. sound stage is ridiculous and I can tune reverbs etc. The mix sounds like it's not "boxed" or coming out a speaker, but a dimension laid out in fromt of me. but I notice that to get the snare to knock on them it'll be knocking my head off on other speakers. I don't trust the midrange as much as I want and I'm tired of going back and forth with my aura tone's etc to figure out what's happening. I used to be LA but now IND and was gonna make a trip out to Pepsi challenge the SCM45/25a, PMC 6.2. I've tracked records at places that had the Barefoots and I had no idea wtf was really going on. I've heard the SCM25a's have the obvious midrange advantage, but can sound "in the box" and will probs need a sub. I want honesty but not to the point that I'm not even enjoying what I listen to. if that's even possible

@@jaykay6412 ...and you haven't listened to ATC classic series, that is real honesty;)

@@jaykay6412 You would be well served by SCM45s if you have the physical space for them. Unfortunately, I didn't so I had to go with the SCM25s. A sub would be nice and might happen at some point. But I am finding I can still hear enough in the low end that a quick translation check helped me get used to what I was hearing.

Thank you for your insightful and helpful review. I get they have a wonderful and detailed sound, especially with the mid range detail. Do they sound good for playback as well as mixing. I am very interested in them though a bit expensive. Looking at the Focal Trio 6 Mark II as well which also received some good reviews.

Go with ATC, Amphions have some weird floppy low end.

@@thedarksoul2104 not true at all, both low ends are different but amphions is definitely not 'weird' or 'floppy' and atcs is not 'lacky' or 'weak'
