I saw this video a couple of years ago and it inspired me to buy a mandolin and learn to play, i came back to it and I still love it, I'm going to pick up my mandolin as soon as I finish this comment XD
My grandpa plays the mandolin and he actually has his dads antique mandolin which is very cool, but I was hoping to get a banjo this christmas.I am really looking forward to this.
Played Mandolin all my life G and D,tell me you "brought your mandolin to a party and no one asked you to play it" quote in Jim Page and Firm I'm Really Stoned video Love the two or 3 point Mandolin he's playing also!Old Chris a fiddler of Albuquerque NM
Flippin' great job ! My experienced opinion is, that's not any super expensive mando but you make it sound wonderful. You don't need to spend a bunch to make wonderful sounding music !
Thank you, DubyaREX02, for posting this video. I really liked it the first time I watched it, and today it made a difference to my attitude toward the day. :-)
It is a great job, well done!...and it was worth the time to pick it all apart ( and for those that are not taking the time to pick it apart... it is pretty easy to see what he is doing!). Thank you so much for sharing this video with the mandolin community!!!!
just started learning this delightful instrument. it will be a long while before I can play this by it sure was a refreshing treat for the ears to hear you play it.
I remember watching this video years ago and thinking “I’m gonna get a mandolin” I never did but recently someone just gave me their old mandolin that had bit of a broken neck, but it’s an easy repair. Once I fix it up this is gonna be the first song I learn on it. :)
I don't have tabs or a full chord chart, but I can tell you that it's in the key of A major. The chords mostly used are A, Dmaj7, and E7. There are some other extended chords that happen throughout. The bridge is C, G, D, A, E7.
I am hoping to get a mandolin this Christmas, I will learn to play this. This is SO amazing sounding! And the song wasn't even on mandolin, but it sounds just like the song!
@bkw8000 Wow, that is the best comment/compliment I have ever received. Thank you for enjoying it! I'm glad I am able to spread the love of music and the mandolin to the people that come across this.
@fredalan It is a Kentucky km-675. It's a $700 mandolin that I got for $420 on ebay, very slightly used. It is a fantastic mandolin for the price. I even had a very famous mandolin builder (Randy Woods) tell me that it's one of the best sounding Kentuckys he's ever heard (and he has heard a lot, I'm sure). I've had it for about 4 years and I would love to upgrade to an American or Canadian-made model. I'm looking at Muth, actually.
I play by ear, too, to some extent. Have picked up a lot of irish music that way. I like my music though. Working on some Bach right now. Couldn't do it without the music. You're arrangement is even better now that I know you learned it by ear. Like I said, I'll have to slow your video down and figure out what you're doing. Great arrangement. Much better than the others I've heard!
@Drackorage Yes, it's in the standard mandolin tuning. To help you out, it's in the key of A and it's all based around an A chord shape. When you started playing mandolin, maybe you learned how to play a G on the top 3 strings like: E|----3--- A|----2--- D|----5--- G|----7--- I just move this entire shape up two frets and switch the fingers around a little bit so it's an A instead of a G. I'm not playing the E string in the beginning.... that doesn't even come in until the bridge.
Great Man! I still wonder how can you (mandolin players) can play so soft and fast??? Beautiful. I'm a guitar boy, but i'm seriously thinkin' bout gettin a mandolin
This is beautiful! The best version I have seen , your fingering is so economical, just learning how to play mandolin and this is the goal I am trying to reach, when I need a little inspiration and motivation this is it! Thank you for sharing!
More than a quarter million views of a premium interpretation of HCTS. So many requests for tab I can understand! I was going to add my sincere appreciation comments only until I read a question above. A slow version with a straight on view of both hands would give a lot of players the info to do their own work on this known standard {around the world and three generations] A measure by measure would not be necessary. Maybe a return to difficult phrases to clarify for beginning players. Thanks!
It's because I was in a rush to share it before I figured out how to play that part. I now know how to play the bridge, and I may even rerecord myself playing a better version of it. Thanks for the kind words!
@CGiordano464 A few years back I recorded a version of Under My Thumb where I used mandolin for the main melody and hand claps and claves for the rhythm. Twas fun.
I've been playing Guitar for a little time now, i started a month ago, but already knew guitar back then. and i'm starting to want a Mandolin..... For some reason
the tabs! I would buy the tabs , please save your soul for whats really important! I have figured out part of this but it would be so much easier if I had the tabs.... I like a challenge too but this one is over my head. I think it would be a challenge even with the tabs... I keep coming back to listen over and over, you really are awesome on this song!
Don't know why I love the Mandolin so much as a songwriter I always wanted to put the mandolins in my songs but my producers didn't put it in Love it LTC songwriter
I'm getting one of these soon ^_^ I love the sound they make. I play piano and ukulele hehe I want to get a guitar too, but first the wonderful mandolin.
I see you are using a bridge pick up mike. Looks like it anyway. good sound here and not too fast at all. One plays as one wants to express. There is no limits unless you are playing something from notes and want to follow the timing. Marie Mandolin
GEORGE HARRISON WOULD BE VERY PROUD of this Mandolin version. . . . "Here Comes the Sun" is one of Harrison's best-known Beatles compositions written to be played on the Ukulele ... but , the music studio / producers told the Beatles that the Ukulele version would not be commercially acceptable.
They are little rubber grommets placed on the strings behind the bridge in order to stop them from vibrating. It's useful when I have my mandolin amplified and I don't want to hear that high-pitched ringing happening when I'm chunking on some chords or something.
Nice one. I play this on Guitar & Uke. And wow...ya got a lot of views on this one. One recomendation - don't say anything negative about your posts and don't point out flubs or mistakes. You're a good player. Keep throwing stuff out there. Cheers!
I think, after seeing this video, the mandolin is beautiful

As a mandolin player of some 40+ years - this is top notch - well done. Be proud.
This is absolutely awesome! Would kill for some tabs on this!!
This is lovely, such a clean sound.
I'd listened to it over several times in the day. This is really nice!
It is a great job, well done!...and it was worth the time to pick it all apart ( and for those that are not taking the time to pick it apart... it is pretty easy to see what he is doing!). Thank you so much for sharing this video with the mandolin community!!!!

I remember watching this video years ago and thinking “I’m gonna get a mandolin” I never did but recently someone just gave me their old mandolin that had bit of a broken neck, but it’s an easy repair. Once I fix it up this is gonna be the first song I learn on it. :)

Well played. Well arranged. Thank you.
Bought a new mandolin today.
This is a really lovely arrangement--I'm a mandolin player, too, so I know what I'm talking about. Impressive, and well played. Bravo...

Cheers to a good arrangement. I'm sure the songs author would approve the interpretation
Lovely! I'm a tab person, jealous of music readers, but very appreciative of those who play well, regardless.

Very well done! My wife loves this!

As quickly as your dedication and determination allows.
Nice work. Good use of chords and double stops etc. Sounds good.
Thanks for this! I am working on transposing this tune and was using a more complicated position than I needed to for that A chord.
Very nice, my 6 yrs old son love it

Very interesting take on a great song. I love your intro, good job at capturing the sound of the original.
