The first time I heard Wunderlich, my teacher played his Dichterliebe for me. From the first phrase my breath caught and I couldn't stop crying at the beauty of that voice.

Two of the best 20 century singers Fritz Wunderlich lived only 36 years but he was a marveleus tenor who could sing Haendel Mozart and opereta with the same talent. And Dame Joan Sutherland was marveleus too.Two great stilists who how to sing I think that the mezzo soprano is Huguette Turangeau who sang many times with Dame Joan Sutherland including the Haendel Rodelinda ópera.
Well, that was just simply devine... A wonderfully perfect match of heavenly beautiful voices. I like to drown in that magical aura the both of them create with their god-like singing. Many thanks for this wonderful cultural gift you donated to us.
Well, I knew before clicking that I was going to hear divine singing from Joan, in Handel that is inevitable. I was surprised by fritz wunderlich though! He is wonderful! Beautiful Handelian tenor. I enjoy hearing ruggiero sung by a tenor! Only criticism is the tempo in this recording is a bit slow for my taste.
Bravissimo! (Anche La Sutherland!).

I think that the mezzo soprano is Huguette Turangeau who sang many times with Dame Joan Sutherland and they recorded Rodelinda together. All are misses.
There is also a recording of this trio with Sutherland, Teresa Berganza and...I forget the third...with a much faster tempo which I prefer! But this is still lovely.
He was the complete packet: perfect technique, celestial voice, sincere and effective enunciation (more in German, I must say). The two women are not so convincing
Dare I state the obvious and point out that the role of Ruggiero was written for a mezzo/ castrato and, as here, sung an octave lower is just too low for Wunderlich. Procter's role generally fits within her octave comfort zone whilst Dame Joan makes some pleasant sounds having, as usual, had her part translated into Klingon. The "authentic" brigade have had some criticism over the years but they do this sort of thing so much better not least by doing what the composer actually wrote.
If you want to feel the God...just listen Joan singing Handel at her prime!

Yeah. "The first time I heard Wunderlich." I remember, special like those few very special events down through the years.
