The game changer for me was learning focus stacking to create flower photographs that are 100% in focus. While out of focus depth of field shots can be interesting, a fully in focus corner to corner flower or flower/cactus or succulent shot can be astonishing. Some of my photographs include stacks of 60 or more separate images.
Well done. Tips are in valuable and I will surely experiment with them. I live in the desert and unless you grow such flowers the market is the next best thing. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Mike. Your videos inspire me to use my macro lens not just for film scanning, but the actul macro photography. I am set up fully now and this video gave me some great ideas to try. Thank you so much! Great job on the pics and the vids 😁
Thanks for the great tips! I bought my wife some flowers while she was out and I used the techniques you mentioned (light below and the light on top) and was really happy with the results.
I am a botanist. I suggest you try cutting flowers in half, particularly a daisy because it is a collection of 2 types of tiny flowers. Also, sometimes, on wild flowers and weeds from the garden, you can find hundreds of tiny insects hiding inside
It is safer not to use flash for backlite the petals or flowers, but use LED lamp. In that case you see how it looks before shoot, and you can seek the perfect angle and distance
I looked at your bookshelf and was surprised to see an RB67! I lived with that camera in the studio for many years. I miss mine, sold it off when I went digital.
This is a great topic for macro. Your tips are great. I also find selecting appropriate flowers very challenging. I try to pick the smallest flowers sine I find they render better. I'm glad you finally have gone to some sponsors for more income. I don't think there is a conflict when you passionately believe in their product.
To this day, what flash do you recommend for macro photography? I purchased the Godox V1 at first, as it got a lot of praise in general, but I found that it recycles too slow. I also broke it recently, so I need to buy a new one either way. Also, for the given flash, what diffuser do you recommend? I don't want to use those crappy circular ones where they keep falling off the lens. I'm using the a7R IV with Laowa 25 2.5-5x and Laowa 85 2x. Sometimes, I consider adding a micro four thirds for macro, though. But then again, I use my Sony for every other aspect. Thank you in advance!
@@MicaelWidell The AK looks better, I think. My last question is if I need to purchase two diffusers if I want to use it with both Laowa 25 and Laowa 85. The 25 is a lot longer at 5x.
In your outdoor macro shots you have previously used shutter speed of around 1/60s but in here they are more like 1/160s. Is there any reason to speed it up indoors vs outdoors? I thought the flash moment would capture the detail?
The foremost reason to use slow shutter speeds is to avoid black backgrounds. I don’t have a need for that for these shots because the background is close by. So I shot a bit higher.
0:56 Ahhh, beautiful vergüenzas on the left :) 5:03 I disagree, that leaf is beautiful, but yeah I understand what you mean, it's not a breathtaking image. 5:30, 5:32 and 6:37 OMG those pictures are amazing! I'm CRAZY about water beads. I have so many pictures of tight water beads, mostly in my car, but today I took pictures of flowers outside and they were full of water beads, so seeing this upload is a huge coincidence :) You mentioned every parameter but you didn't mention which Laowa lens you were using. Although I caught a glimpse of the unique square window inside the lens at around 6:28 so I see it's the 65mm. Seems like the 90mm isn't the new king of macro after all ;) Is the 65mm still your favorite?
No actually I used the 60mm. And that is mostly because I haven’t had time to upgrade to the 90mm yet :) and I always write the lens camera etc in the video description if you want to check
@@MicaelWidell Yeah tiny mistake on my part, I always get the 65mm and 60mm names mixed up, but you know what I mean because the square window is only on the 60mm, whereas the 65mm has a round look inside and is MUCH smaller than the 60mm and the 60mm has been the one you've said is your favorite since like 3 years ago, as noted in the description of every video ;) . I skipped the description since I know it always links to ur fave Laowa lens 60mm :P Hmm, looking forward to when you find the time to upgrade to the 90mm :) If it ends up being your fave beating the 60mm, I'll still have bought both of them since I want to try so many of the Laowa lenses now XD. The 90 seems the best rounded and closest to what I already have, the 60mm you've always had AMAZING results with and it's ur fave so I respect the lens, and the 85mm looks promising because of the size and weight, BUT it might be something that I don't care about anyway. I'll probably end up keeping either the 60mm or the 90mm and selling the others.
Another rippa video Miceal. 🙂. With pronounciation, "petals", should be, I think sounded as 'pet - als', and depite the spelling, "orchid" would be 'orr - kid'. This is not a criticism, as I couldn't even imagine speaking as you do, in an 'other than my' Native language, but hopefully just a bit of dope for you to take or leave. Keep 'em coming Mate.

Yes this is something I definitely want to explore. Didn’t have time for this video though.
A very enjoyable video to watch. Thank you, Micael!
Glad you enjoyed it Phil :)
Thx for the helpful info!
Flower glamour photography. How fun! My husband really enjoys photographing coneflowers.
Good tips, Micael. I´m definitely gonna try them - especially the envelope one.
TiP: If you want the droplets to stay in position for longer, indoors or outdoors, add 25% glycerine to the water.
50/50
I use food colouring in a glycerine mix. Produces some nice pictures with the right lighting.
Great work as always, thanks for inspiration!
THANKS! for all the creative suggestions. Would have probably never thought of colored light or lightning through the petals.
Great video & tips! I've struggled with shooting flower macro. I'll give it another go this week using these tips. Cheers!
I actually loved the Coleus photo - The coloured envelope always works well, too! Thanks Micael - Great video
Excelente tus fotos.
Gracias por enseñarnos, profundizando en la temática de Macro fotografía.

Good tip with colored flash, I will try that. I have tons of flash gel that I have not used for a while.
I like the video! And also how you say “peetals”! 😋
Right?? I thought this was so cute and shall now pronounce my peetals the same way! 😊🌺

I did the same thing, I mean buy flower to wife and do a macro. 😊😊😊
Thank You I'm learning with you )))

Yes I feel good about having skillshare because they offer a very good service.
Hello! Music in the background sounds lovely. Where can I find it?
Don’t remember the song name, but all my music is from epidemic sound

I recommend the Meike mk320. Best flash for macro I’ve tried so far. Make sure to get good batteries. For example GP photo flash batteries
Pope shield and ak diffuser are the best ones I’ve tried

Great as always, very inspirational but petals rhymes with get dull just saying :)
Do you remove the studio light and use only flash ?
The studio light is so weak compared to the flash so it barely makes a difference in the image.

Helpful ,,, but I might use a Bouquet of flowers instead of a Bucket of flowers :)

As always, great tips ! but What do you mean by "Setting the white balance to a value already in the camera " ? That one got me!😅
In every camera you can set the white balance. Often it is in Automatic (AWB), try setting it to something constant instead, like Daylight or 5600 K.
@@MicaelWidell Oh, I already do that. Thought you were referring to something else. Thank you for solving the mystery ☺ Have a great day!
Fantastic tips, thank you. (In English, its pronounced PETals not PEEEtals, think "I have a PET dog, he PEEES on the carpet"
Haha thank you I suspected I did not pronounce it right 😂
And Bouquet not QUET, but KAY - but I guess that's French.
