  • Hello friends! How do boiled fruit dumplings sound? Now, these ones are from 1828 so you know it can't be quite as simple and delicious as you're imagining. Let's see why these earned a 1/10 from Ron. How could fruit dumplings possibly go wrong?

September 11, 2001, I was in culinary school and our Pastry Class was in full swing. We had partnered up to do our first specialty desserts and my lovely partner was a part time flight attendant. When the chef came into the kitchen after a break, he looked like a zombie. He explained that a plane had flown into the north tower and another one had just hit the south. My poor friend, I felt so sorry for her. She went into hysterics thinking it could have been her and how her son might have been orphaned if something happened to her. Pies were burning, equipment and food fell to the floor left and right…so many people shocked and incredibly sad about the loss of life…and the loss of our own way of life. Nothing would ever be the same again. We will never forget. ❤

My sister had just finished flight attendant school and was so excited to begin her new adventure. Needless to say, she never became a flight attendant. She was crushed😔

"Countryside" is the name of the pattern & Wedgwood made it for many years which could explain the different back stamps. (Manufacturers change their back stamps, every so often & the original owner might've added to her set, over the years, hence the different back stamps.) Thank you for the awesome video.

I was 15 years old, living in myrtle beach SC and hadn't gone to school because I skipped often and I remember I had my bed on the floor at the time and a tv on the floor I forgot to turn off. My older sister 3 years older woke me up and told me to look at the tv. She never came into my room to wake me up etc so I was confused.
I was not awake at all and didn't understand what the heck I was seeing. I changed the channel a few times and all the channels had it on there and I remember seeing a black cloud of smoke and I believe maybe 15 minutes go by? And a second plane flies into the other building. That's when I really woke up. This was all live so as I was sitting there on the corner of my bed, I saw it happen as it happened. When I put myself back in time in my mind, it feels weird and daunting and a place I never want to be again.

Eyeballs and boogers? 😂 Perhaps you should have done this receipt closer to Halloween 🎃🤘 Im with Ron, puff pastry should be baked 😊 Thanks Justine and Ron and ofcourse, Mish Mish 💜
On 11th September 2001, I was 21, and had just given birth to my only child just 3 weeks before (on Rons birthday). On the other side of the planet, it was nighttime here. My newborn woke up to be breastfed at around 11pm, I was very tired so I turned on the TV to stay awake whilst my baby fed. And to my horror, it was on every channel. I didn't go back to sleep that night believing I had brought a baby into World War 3. Even here in Australia, we were terrified!

I worked at a Cracker Barrel back in 1988. At one point I worked in the kitchen. Back then they had baked potatoes dropped into liquid pine resin and the wrapped in old menus. My job was to drop and fetch out the taters. I still have a scar on my wrist where a drop of the liquid resin hit my wrist. I swiped it off and it took numerous layers of skin with it. I loved the little beef filets on biscuits. One of my favorites and too expensive for me to purchase. Good to be friends with the cooks.

She was a sickly woman, so they decided to wait till she felt better before they traveled back to the Americas. He founded a private school in Hershey PA which my daughter went to and graduated from in 2020. They led a interesting life.

Thank you for the great history facts of your local area. As for September 11th, I was young as well. Living in a major city not far from NYC. I was homeschooled and remembered my mom got a call, and she told me the United States was under attack. My young mind thought that people and tanks would be marching down the street any moment. That moment defined the next two decades of my life leading me to join the United States Marine Corps.
Thank you for your patriotism and telling the history of our great nation.

The dishes might be from old supermarket sales of some types of China like Blue Willow statting in the 1950s. Prior to the 1960s when my mom got them at grocery store -- theaters gave them away at **dish night** during the Depression to get people into theaters. Some of those dishes are hugely collectible today.

And it was well after dinner time when he finally got home. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who died. I love seeing the historic sights and especially the church. I am a high school English teacher in Belvidere, Illinois, which is up near the Wisconsin border. On September 11 I was in my second year of teaching. I had a group of sophomores in my classroom. It’s crazy for me to think that those sophomores are all now grown men and women with families of their own. We were watching live when the second plane flew into the south tower. It took us all a minute to realize what we were seeing. We thought it was a replay at first of the first plane. I will never forget that day as long as I live. I love your channels! If I hadn’t become an English teacher, I would’ve been a history teacher. I chose English because I get to teach history along side of the literature to put the literature in context. You guys are fantastic. Love what you do!

I remember exactly where and what I was doing on 9/11. I was in downtown St. Paul working in an office. I noticed something was up when I saw t.v.'s put out. People started gathering around them and we started getting really scared thinking that at any moment we could get bombed. We all wanted to go home but were told that the president wanted us stay where we were and continue our day as scheduled. At the end of our work day we went home and my husband who worked nights didn't know what was going on. When I walked in the house he dead stopped and asked, "what's wrong, you're as white as a sheet." I was also very upset because my dad was in Washington DC near the Pentagon visiting his sister and her husband who worked at the Pentagon (luckily not at work that day) and couldn't get home for a couple of weeks. For many months all Americans were one and we put flags on our cars and houses and made red, white and blue flag pins to wear. That's a feeling I wish we could get back, knowing we are standing together, one nation under God 🇺🇸

When I was a child my mother used to make raspberry dumplings but she did it a little differently than you did. She would put the raspberries in a pan with water and sugar and boil it until a thick somewhat. She would then make sweet dumpling butter and put it on top of the raspberry mixture and cover it until it's cooked. It was the same concept of making dumplings to go and chicken stew only it was made of the sweet better. It was absolutely delicious.

I just found your channels a couple of days ago. I have long since grown weary of most of the modern world. My husband was an alcoholic hoarder with a capital A & H. (we have been estranged for the past 2 yrs) Making me long for a simple life even more. Before his disease took over him, we often talked about just getting back to the basics of life and living semi-off grid. It was the goal for retirement. Just as I thought there might be some hope for a reconciliation....he informed me he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer. He passed 10 days ago. Now, I am back here at his house, trying to clear out years of accumulated mess and needed background noise that would keep halfway sane. I am going through every emotion possible that can be associated with grief from the loss of the only man I ever loved. The anger from that loss that just came too early no matter what I did to try save him. AND somehow, your channel popped into my algorithm. I cannot begin to tell you guys just how much comfort your videos are bringing to me. You are interesting and are keeping me moving forward in this overwhelming nightmare of a hoarder's paradise. I plan to continue to watch your channels and I hope to see you wedding next spring! I will not be able to travel to Missouri...But, If you do a live stream...I am so there for it! Thank you for appreciating American History! I think most Americans have forgotten just what a wonderful country we live in and what it took for the brave people who became our ancestors. Keep up the awesome work. And maybe in the future, I will be able to bring my granddaughter on a trip to your neck of the woods!

I was in 10th grade study hall on September 11, 2001... I was living in Saratoga Springs, NY at that time. I remember a lot of the kids went home early that day because a lot of their parents took the train and worked in NYC because it was just a train ride away. Our teacher brought us to the classroom across the hall and we all watched it on the news. It was absolutely horrible. One week earlier my mom was there at the world trade center because she worked for the NY Attorney Generals office.. I'll never forget it.

Ha Ha, Ron wouldn't touch even one dumpling! I was in New York City the night before 9/11 at a stand-up comedy workshop I for. which I enrolled for 8 weeks, and the next day around noon time back in Connecticut, I received a message on my answering machine from my Mother, which came in while I was in the shower. The message was something like don't go to New York it's dangerous. I laughed it off because I thought she was exaggerating for some reason. Then I turned on the news and found out what had happened and was beyond stunned! In the midst of all that tragedy and turmoil I figured I wouldn't be going to the workshop the following week, thinking everything would be at a stand still. I was wrong, the class was on and people were going about their business, but one thing was different ; on the street when a fire truck or ambulance 🚒drove by everyone stopped walking and applauded and cheered, including myself. We also wore those little American flag pins and it was quite something, these New Yorkers bonded over this devastating loss of lives and destruction of part of the city .We all had a new found appreciation of the people that responded to help the victims of this tragedy , and what trauma they them selves endured. I've continued to hold on to the respect of all first responders and 911 dispatches ( my Grand Daughter is one) ever since.🗽

Those dishes are very pretty. If you want to add to your set there is quite a bit of it on Ebay. I'll bet those dumplings would be good if they were baked. Boiling puff paste is weird. To boil them I would use a biscuit type dough, and for much less time, as you said.

The cups are super easy to come by at thrift stores or ebay. The set is fairly common. the bowls are sauce bowls not cereal bowls

We live just south of DC and my husband was a Patrol Officer for Arlington VA Police. I worked Security at an Elementary School just off the base of Andrews AF. Many of my students had parents on the base and at the Pentagon so we were telling adults to keep it together until we got students home. My husband was getting our 6th grader from another school and heading to the Pentagon to report for duty. He reminded our kids we live in the southern flight plan for National Airport and to listen and be watchful incase any were ditched before the city.

The whole time I was watching these getting made I kept wondering why the recipe would call for a puff paste if it was to be boiled. It really bothered me! So when Ron brought up the same point, there I was in my living room yelling at the TV, "YES! THANK YOU, RON!" Harrumph.

I think your dishes are authentic. Usually, reproductions don't include all the info on the back of the dish. However, the color difference is usually due to different times of production of the dish, based on demand for that set. You have a great treasure, good job! Look online for the cups, I'm sure you'll find them, even if it's only 1 at a time.

Wow, I would love to visit that Church. Historical fact, the Catholic Church is the oldest and authentic church that Jesus started. I’m making the stew and cheesy toast today. Makes cooking fun, like I’m playing.😃

I was in Sequoia/Kings Canyon national park with my husband and 3 month old daughter packing up to go home when we heard a ranger talking about an explosion. We were a bit confused, but once we were in our truck and turned the radio on, we heard what happened. We drove home and it was so eerie. There were few cars on the road, and no airplanes. I visited the World Trade Centers when I was a child as well. I vividly remember standing in the plaza with the Sphere.

Since you used to live in Charlottesville, Justine, i wonder if you've ever visited Monticello? I went for the first time recently and my mind was blown!
I'm also from North Carolina so it was very cool to hear this week's NC-related history!

Hello from Indiana. Hershey, Pennsylvania is the place that you are talking about. You can visit and watch them make the chocolate. You will know when you are close to the town. It smells like chocolate everywhere. The light posts are shaped like Hershey kisses. I have family that work there.

Having watched the cooking video on your other channel, this absolutely breaks my heart. I’m Ukrainian and boiled dumplings are a national dish. From the fruit ones, sour cherry ones are my favorite, and in my opinion choux pastry recipes work the best. But you only need to boil them until the raw flour smell has gone, which is only about 10-12 minutes (providing the dough is thin). This is absolute blasphemy 😂 if you want a good recipe to try off camera, i’ll happily send you one 😄 it’s awesome with savory fillings too.

The best thing I ever ate was a pierogi that my Ukranian neighbor made with half of a purple (prune) plum inside, sprinkled with a little cinnamon and sugar. After boiling for a short time, she sprinkled sugar and melted butter on it. Yummy!

Yes these are real wedgwood plates from the 1960s. Very pretty and great deal! You probably just found someone who likes blue transferware so you got some random other dishes in there. I too collect blue transferware. My favorite is the blue willow pattern, but i think all the brands look good together. Sometimes the year on the back is just the year the company started.

I was at home doing my homework in Farmington NM. We didn't have cable so we heard about the Trade Center and Pentagon on the radio. I was so confused and my parents were trying to listen so all my questions got shushed. My dad did say our town was to small to be a target so we didn't need to worry about being attacked. But we listened to the radio all day for any updates. I was a little scared but mostly just stunned and confused, but I can picture it perfectly. It wasn't until 3 days later when my dad got a newspaper with it on the front cover that I actually saw and understood it. Love to all who have lost!❤
