- We abandoned our van for three months, what we find when we return is surprising!! After a break down and a fire we left our van in Romania and headed to Japan for three months to recover. The time has finally come to get back to Martha and start van life all over again! We are readjusting to life on the road in our girl. We try our first wild swim of the year, and fail miserably! European van life is going to take some getting used to again, but we are feeling ready for it this time!

⤈ WHO WE ARE ⤈
We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. Then we took our van further than she had ever been before to the very beautiful Turkey. Enroute we stopped off in Spain for a few weeks where we experienced every van lifers worst nightmare, we were robbed and they stole all valuables in our van. But now we are back on our feet, fully MOT’d and back on the road through Europe before we experienced another vanlife nightmare... our van caught fire! After the trauma of that we had a massive change of plan and have now made our way to Japan. We are starting a Japanese road trip and excited to bring you all along.

Definately single seat, we bought good singles second hand, then bought two folding cup holders for both front doors to solve the coffee problem!

Ha ha ha,' don't let me die,,,,,it's fine,it's fine, everything is fine', super proud ye got in for a dip, i was back after 9 weeks after being so sick, went of Friday, near took my breath wway, but like ye, feel revitilused after. Keely your hair is absolutely beautiful, love it when flowing free when down. I am torn re middle seat,handy if needed for extra passengers,but handy to not have for access to the back.I tried twice today to watch this,but life got in the way. Well done great editing.

Welcome back to Europe you crazy kids! The van started first time and the plant lived, I’d say that was a result!? That’s got to be the cheapest airport parking in the whole wide world, what a find. A single seat (with swivel) would transform the front of the van. Clip on coffee cup holder could remedy that problem. Although you deffo need a coffee cup solution. Sleep long and travel gently as you return to Norn Iron for MOT. I wonder if you’ll do some fettling with the can upon your return? Take care lovely peeps!

I was on the floor laughing for the dipping in Black Sea part. Black Sea is a cold sea, that is why dolphins and many other fish pass from Mediterranean to Black Sea through Bosphorus in May so they will not cook during the summer. ☺️☺️ I know you never regret a swim but I think this time you come close. Luckily there was noone to hear you scream other wise they might be calling the police thinking a husband was killing his wife 🤣🤣

Make the middle seat a fold down if cup holders on the back (it’s made of plastic). That way u can still have the middle seat if u want a dog or to cuddle close to each other 😘but make it easier to crawl to the back.

Great to see Martha and that plant was impressive - if you guys go away for 6 months you’ll have a rainforest when you come back 😂. I’d ditch the middle seat and replace it with a detachable coffee folder/table so you have the best of both worlds. The Black Sea looks amazing.

There may be a middle way to open up the, erm, middle way to the back. At work (County Durham Foodbank - I look after all the equipment in our 12,000sqft warehouse), our Renault Master has a drop-down middle seat backrest - on the back of this is a laptop desk, cup holders, various other storage oojits and whatnots. Maybe Peugeot/Citroën (isn't it also sold as a FIAT?) have one of those available. A minor scramble instead of a (bum)cheeky squeeze through that narrow gap!
Also, Romanian Lidl - do their checkout guys fairly launch stuff off the end of the till like here in UK? It's like some sort of Evel Knievel stunt show for tins and bread down our local one...😁
Hahaha I'll have to see if I notice that at Lidl. Interesting about the fold down back! Defo gonna do some looking into seat alternatives when we get back to the UK

Single passenger seats are very expensive in the UK. A cheaper option might be to buy a secondhand lhd driver's seat whilst you are in Europe. I fitted one imported from Poland and installed in our first van - easily installed., no problems.
That is a VERY good idea. We will look into that when we are closer to home. So we aren't carting around extra seats for the next two months haha.
Have a walkway. You could always install a coffee cup holder some other way.

As for the seats, remove the middle seat, have a swivel on the passenger single, makes the van bigger. Or can just remove back of middle double, easier to step through and still got coffee space. Though I would get rid and fit cup holders on the dash or doors. Easier for moving crash mat from front to rear, just drag through the gap. Happy travelling 😎
Yeah Philly just said that about the boulder mat!! Would make it a lot easier to move things from back to front. Swivel seat would be pretty awesome! I feel like this might be an upgrade when we get back to UK

Single sears ideally that swivel round and face backwards are really good. They are a bit bigger and comfier than the standard ones too. I think they are pretty expensive though! Anyway so good to see Martha again and the Japanese adventure has been the reset that you needed.

I have the best of both worlds when it comes to front seats, the middle seat folds down so can leave it down when I need to do. Always at night for the quick get away if needed!! This set up really suits me too as I travel with my doggo and the second seat is a must for his comfort 😀 It has come in handy too for extra passengers. For me walk to thr back is better, but i dont see why you have to choose one or the other. You can take the seat out and make a boad you can hook to the othrr seats. That way you have a coffee table and walk to the cabin

I always intended to have captains chairs, the advantages are that the pax seat swivels so can be incorporated, gives a bit more room, don’t need to exit the van to start it up.

Thanks Coby 🥰 We will be back in NI. Obviously the back log of MOT means we will technically expire before our test lmao. Booked first week of April, but I think they give you a by ball if it's booked don't they.
@@phillyandkeely just one piece of advice is to make sure Martha is taxed before the expiry date of the MOT as it will not allow you to complete it online if there’s no MOT certificate in the system. I know from experience having to wait three months for a date….

Great fun watching you two just getting on with life. Glad the van was fine, now its time to trundle home for the MOT. Why don't you try swapping out the twin seat for a single when you get home and see if it suits you. We have the fiat version of your van and the single seat works fine for us, and we have the swivel passenger seat which works really well. But don't forget how useful the twin seat was when you took your family along during your homeland trip. Things to consider perhaps? Take care,👋

@@jayneboulton4672 oh right haha, Sheba! Yeah she was lovely 🥰 not sure if she was a stray though. But the dog we found a couple days ago was very much a stray but wouldn't let us anywhere near him. So just left plenty of food.
