Man, you're good with the aluminum welding!

Thanks! I’m nowhere near professional with it but I keep practicing and teaching myself to be better.

That's a great plane my buddy had one years ago and is what got me interested in flying. He had a 503 on floats and it performed quite well . I bet it will be super stol with the Yamaha. Thanks for sharing your progress.

I was told to have your fill cap / radiator at the highest point to keep any air pockets from forming at your heads.... ie highest piont.. love following your work.

I’m pretty sure I’ve managed to get the radiator level high enough to manage. In a pinch if I have any issues I can put a block of wood under one wheel while filling to raise the cap a bit.

The radiator looks to be the highest point in the system, that hole you capped would have been a good location for the filler neck and cap
ETA,I see you figured that out lol.
On your pipe to the bottom of the radiator, 2 rubber lined clamps with 1 bolt might be the solution to attaching the pipe to the engine mount.

You got it quicker than I did but I got there eventually!

I LIKE IT! there is another one on the tube that has machined an adapter to fit the rotax gearbox to the yamaha phaser, Cool trick!

Ben’s kolb project! I’ve spoken with him. Glad someone is out there other than me showing how cool these engines can be.

straight hoses can cause cracks in top of tank due to movement of engine pulling . there very little movement under compession or tension

Seams pointless to cut the radiator like you did.

For your retutn cooling hose get 2 Adel clamps one for thr cooling line and the other for the engine mount install spacer and bolt together.

If you can accept a little critique you should have moved the upper rad hose attachment to the other side of the tank to save weight. IE shorter hose. May not be worth changing now but for future its a mod you were making anyways so why not save at the same time?

The issue there was a combination of level and hose flex. I wanted the extra few inches even at the cost of a few grams of rubber weight. Also, I wanted the outlet and inlet to be caddy corner to force more fluid through more fins. Not sure how much it would affect things to not have it that way but it can’t hurt.
