    I have owned a bead blasting cabinet, from harbor freight, for about 35 years. It has a Tacoma company retrofit kit installed which made it 400% more effective. It's worth it's weight in gold for how it transforms ugly parts into beautiful ones. If I was a little younger, I'd make a water blaster & have the parts come out much more beautiful than just plain bead blasting. The finish is as good, if not better, than brand new, depending on the quality of the parts you acquire.

    Im totally going to chase this build! I apreciate the time you put into filming this project and I find it very inspiring to see other likeminded individuals with a death wish, a dream, and a small wallet. lol This is my next build, the moon rocket can wait. Subscribed and thoroughly enjoy all of your content, Thankyou

    Great stuff Ian👍. I’ve been researching plating some stuff myself as well.. might give it a go seeing your success here!

    Way to go! Enjoying your videos. How about getting a Harbor Freight table top media blaster filled with plastic media for cleaning aluminum parts. I bet your Dad would use it too!

    • @ianslife210
      @ianslife210  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a few blasters but I’m always concerned about getting media in a port. The engine can swallow a little water much easier than some glass bead.

      @@ianslife210 Got it. i meant for small parts like clamps, valve covers and such, not for the engine itself. If you ever have time please visit me at the Conroe Airport. My phone # is in the eaa302.org web site under Tech Counselors.

    • @ianslife210

      Oh! I misunderstood. That’s a good idea and honestly if my cabinet were set up easier fo access I’d probably do that. The vinegar worked so well to prep parts for electroplating that I didn’t have to but I do use media on occasion.
      I’ll look you up at Conroe and drop by some time. I’m up that way fairly frequently.

    An old Ferrari trick for porous, pitted or rough aluminum and magnesium engine parts is crinkle finish paint. VHT sells red and black. For the zinc electro-plating I think you skipped the last step which would be the passivate. The easiest way is to dip it in chromate solution which results in yellow zinc that looks like cadmium plating. Without it the zinc coating will soon turn a chalky hue. I enjoy your videos, much more down to Earth and relative than Mike Patey's multi-million dollar "Scrappy" build.

    • @ianslife210
      @ianslife210  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, I’ve seen my method used but I don’t have the long term results yet. I’d like to get the yellow zinc kit and probably will one day but I was too cheap to do it right off the bat.

    water blasting is much better for aluminium , and painting an aluminium Engin is preventing the shedding of heat, and you want to have heat transfer from the aluminium to the ambient air to de as efficient as possible ( water blasting to rid of oxidation and a yellow Alodin is cheaper then anodizing to prevent build-up )

    • @ianslife210

      The phazer is water cooled so there’s not much to lose there.

    • @flyingmaniac3827

      @@ianslife210 I agreed that it is water cooled, never the less as a contributing factor however small it is air cooled can benefit.

    I believe u can put sharkhide on aluminum, less paint=better cooling I believe

    Hi, I am on an FSAE team with a Yamaha Phazer engine, however, we have no experience working with this engine and are having trouble identifying sensor locations (crank position sensor). Would you mind helping us out, or even just helping us with identifying part locations?

    • @ianslife210
      @ianslife210  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crank position comes out of the stator cover along with the connection to the voltage regulator. There's a big three position connector with only two big wires going into it and a small two pin. That little guy is what you're looking for.

    • @maxedbricks589
      @maxedbricks589 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ianslife210Thanks! We were confused since the service manual said the AC magneto and Crankshaft position sensor's lead couplers were in the same location. Checked their wire resistances and confirmed the parts.
      Where is the cam position sensor located?
      Lastly, How do we identify sensors that are not described in the service manual? (The two sensors that point into a cylinder perpendicular to the crankshaft.)
      Appreciate it!
      (P.S. We're working with a Phazer 2007)

  • @michaelbishton9439
    @michaelbishton9439 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've watched a few of your videos and live what you are doing with the Phazer.
    I just bought a Quicksilver MX2 that has a 503 that sits on the top and has a drive shaft that goes to the back end to drive a propeller. I was wondering how difficult it would be to replace the 503 with a phaser that drives the same drive shaft but perhaps with a different ratio pulley?

    • @ianslife210
      @ianslife210  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That I’m not really sure. Teal Jenkens of skytrax would be the person to ask about that sort of thing more than me.

    Vapor blasting.

    • @ianslife210
      @ianslife210  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked into that! The issue is that there’s a high chance of the abrasive getting into the engine and damaging things.

  • @Dsoginventor
    @Dsoginventor 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you didn’t first paint that engine case with self’etching primer, you made a mistake. Regular paint will not stick well to bare aluminum. (Unless your paint is specifically made to paint aluminum.)

    • @ianslife210
      @ianslife210  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is specific engine paint for bare aluminum.
