Thank you Sir for your video! Followed along when doing my daughter's Rav4 and everything went smooth. A small issue I had was when I was slowly compressing one of the pistons, it started to balloon slightly. Took a small flat head screwdriver, gently lifted the piston's fold around all the edges to let the air out, and it compressed perfectly. A little tip in case anyone runs into that issue, might save you from messing up the piston.
I replaced disk brake pads on a couple vehicles many years ago. Thank you for the refresher course specific to my current vehicle. I can do this myself and save a ton of money. I'll try to find another way to compress the cylinder to make clearance for the new pads. I'd prefer not to buy a special wrench that I will only use once in my life.

Warning do NOT get brake cleaner on rubber parts they will stretch and break. I learned the hard way. None of the videos I watched gave this warning, Your video was the easiest to follow though!!!
That is a great point Naomi! As I mentioned to wipe down the rubber dust shields, I didn’t indicate that I used a dry cloth. The previous instructions were to clean the guide pins, so I can see how someone may think to spray the rubber shields with brake cleaner as well. Brake cleaner instructions usually state to avoid all rubber parts.
Good comprehensive video, especially the clear instructions about the positioning of the wear indicators (squealers) and orientation of the guide clips. Most videos don't mention these parts.
I truly appreciate hoe detailed & informative your videos are; the torque values you're providing are pretty unique amongst the TH-cam videos. If I may, anti-seize on them bolts go a long way. Keep it up my friend your videos are at a different level!

RockAuto is fantastic. I always feel sorry for the delivery driver that has to carry the parcel to my steps. Some of those rotor and pad orders can be heavy.
Thank you. On your RAV4, it will have to be put in emergency brake service mode to release the pressure on the rear piston. This way the piston can slide back into the caliper to accommodate the new pads.
A common dilemma for Rav owners is a low pedal after any brake work...often the new brake level is halfway to the floor. The Toyota repair forum has a multitude of owners stymied by this problem. As yet no clear, one cause of the low brake pedal. Some claim caliper pins, some claim ABS. Still a mystery.
I'd recommend to bleed brakes. Release some old brake fluid and possible air bubbles. Fill brake fluid to the max level. First 150 miles or 200km take it easy and do not push brakes too hard- they need to wear down for better friction. I prefet to replace pins and rubber parts simultaneously- they are cheap and much cleaner than in example video. No need to aim rear adjusting hole- you can rotate it any time.
Yes the process is similar. Actually, the braking system for many cars in principle have pads and rotors that are replaced in similar fashion. Of course different size tools and brake parts are common.

Mine was built in Japan. Now the rotors for Rav4's are different sizes and it can get a bit complicated. I believe the rear rotors are all the same size, but where it differs is in the front for 3 different model/engine types - the V6, V4 and the one's with 3rd row seating.

The size for my front rotors are supposed to be 296 mm, will see if they fit . Funny thing is i have 2 row seating and because it is a limited edition it is considered 3 row seating. For 2 row seating they say the front is 275 mm, very confusing. Have not done the brake job yet :) we will see!
The RAV4 is definitely one of the more confusing vehicles for brake rotor sizes because of the different vehicle configurations. I use rockauto.com for the majority of my parts and their website is very easy to use. You can just double check to ensure you’re getting the right size from your supplier.
So that would be circumstantial - if you find your brake fluid is brown in colour, then flush it. Or if you removed the reservoir cap (which could let in air) then a flush is recommended.
Are you still happy with the rock auto purchase? Our local auto chains are selling everything for $300+. We just had to pay for an unexpected funeral for a 21 year old & none of us have spare money right now
Sorry for your loss. I too just had two family members pass within a week of each other so I empathize with what you are going through. As for RockAuto; they are my first go to for parts. The only reason I would use anyone else is if they don’t have the parts I need. And I am not paid or sponsored by them, so there is no motivation besides pure value. Always use new slide pins. Add loc tite to 17 m caliper bolts. Open bleed valve before compressing piston.

Pretty good coverage of the job. On the rear brakes our 2019 rav4 trail has an electric motor on the caliper to apply parking brake

Excellent tutorial! Sadly, my rear caliper brackets were too rusted on to remove, no matter what I tried :-(
I’m assuming it’s the bolts on the bracket? If they didn’t shear off or strip, then try using a good penetrating oil to soak through the rust.

Just place the rotor on the hub - no force needed.
