  • We have had a lot of questions on how will a family of 6 fit into a 5 passenger seat Jeep Wrangler?? Well, we installed a 3rd row in the rear and this video shows how we did it and how it is safe and secure!! This is not our daily driver, however we will utilize it when we are going on offroad adventures!

      It’s not practical, the Jeep is already cramped inside, you’d only be able to fit small adults or kids if you add a 3rd row, unless you have the top off all the time

  • @mdb3601

    You've put a lot of thought into it. For what it's worth, perhaps trim and round the zip ties so they don't rub. Also, I've rolled a jeep going down the highway rolling one and a half times. I'm lucky to be alive. Give your kids something to hang on to so their hands and arms don't flop around in case of a rollover. That way they don't grab the bar overhead while rolling. Lastly, I would get everything on the bar welded. Bolts with shear off with force. After my rollover, the entire roll bar was bent.

    Random internet person’s opinion.
    1. I think there’s a reason that most of the racing harnesses clip to a bar behind the seat perpendicular to your back, I believe it keeps it straighter in a wreck.
    2. With your little ones in the 4 point harness watch out for submarining. Very dangerous, you can avoid this with a 5 point harness or ASM 4 points. In some cases 4 point harnesses are less safe than factory 3 points.
    That being said, very cool!! The fiancé and I are looking at a Jeep but want a big family so this is just what we needed to see! Have fun and stay safe

  • @SquadbuddyAirsoft

    My only things I wasn't sold on was that I felt like a submarine belt should have been present, and there should be a bar welded across the frame at the back to attach the belts to. I'd also have that welder attach the roll bar permanently. I love the idea of a third row in a wrangler. I just found your page so you might have done a few of these, so I'm going to check your stuff out! Keep Jeeping!

    Awe I sure miss my Jeep Rubicon. It was white I called her "Daisy" from the Dukes of Hazzard. Don't forget to do the Jeep wave. Probably in the next year or so I'll be getting another Jeep. The big Jeep invasion of the Great Smoky Mountains is August 23-25. Jeeps and Jeep suppliers come all over United States will be there. Millions of Jeeps are in the Smoky Mountains that weekend. Then they do a thing called "Jeeps invade Cades Cove " on the last day of the event. Something to keep in mind. It's a big huge event. It would absolutely blow your mind of the amount of Vendors and Dealers and Jeeps.

    Move the third-row seat 1in forward, cut the side mounts, and re-weld them back. cut the front mount 1 in and re-drill the hole. this will give you more storing space when you riding with less than 5 people. simple and easy to re-do. also store the jack below the third seat for easier access. I Have a lifted jeep that requires a bigger jack than the factory jack. I got rid of the factory jack and bought a heavy 5 ton jack to lift the jeep. Fits perfect under the back seats.

And, as a CPST, how do you feel comfortable endorsing something that has had not crash safety testing or certification? As a CPST, you put yourself and your sponsoring organization at risk by even bring up the CPST certification.

    Since the kids are so small you may want to take an idea from backpacks and create a simple chest strap to keep the shoulder straps from slipping off their shoulders. Regardless of how reasonably snug you make the straps, there just isn’t enough little person there to keep the harness tight.

    Loosen the shoulder straps and tighten the lap belt to bring it lower if needed to keep it off their stomach area. Just found out we will have four 4 and under. I started looking at swapping my trucks front center console for a jump seat. Guess what, the safety police instantly share their opinions. You’re kids are just as safe in the back of your Jeep as someone driving an SUV. There are pros/cons to everything and anyone who says you’re not being safe should consider things like the amount of glass that will shatter in their factory 3rd row SUV.
    Good job!

    Just so you guys know, the US Army has these food carriers that are the size of a 5 gallon military gas can. The top lid comes off with latches and they are very well insulated. Mine came with an aluminum food bucket that fit inside it, that lifted out of the gas can type carrier.
    (Guess it's for putting out the food on the serving table with out having to remove the entire gas can thing.
    I have heard they make shorter stackable food buckets so they can carry more than one entre hot to the Troops in the feild. But never seen one)
    I don't haul gasoline in the swing out carrier on the rear of my rig on the trail, but I do use the 5 gallon food can as a drink cooler. It fits in the gas can carrier tray of my swing out tire carrier just like a Military Gas Can. We CAN carry 2 cans back there with the 35" rear spare tire. But, since I run dual fuel tanks on my rig, I carry one 5 gallon Blitz Water jug on one side and the Military ice can on the other side. My kitchen, with stove, hangs off my swing out tire carrier (in open position), for cooking when camping, so having the water can and ice chest/ drink cooler there is perfect. Wish I could post up a picture of it. You guys would love it. (Found a picture of it. It's a German Food Carrier from the 60's) images.app.goo.gl/p6Xa44EUSwrB753p8
    Also, They make a gear rack that can be bolted to the outside of the spare tire that will give you more options too! Love watching you and the Family exploring in your Bus. I did the same with my family during Summer breaks from school. Parents did it with my 3 brothers and myself in the 50's too!

    Great job! May I suggest that you have the nuts welded on to the plates and the plates welded to the frame. This way it would be easier to remove that seat frame. You can carry a battery powered impact with you in case you need the jack. Also you may be able to cut the long bracket that goes to the second row bolt and install a heavy duty hinge. This way you only have to remove to two rear bolts. Just a thought. Again great job. Love the Jeep.

    I know I’m a little late to this party, but it seems to me like the plastic being bolted in between your body and the new welded seat platform would just smash and possibly allow enough movement to shear the bolts and fling the seat out. You might remount the seat platform underneath the plastic pieces.

    I’m glad you did a very safe job & great looking also. I will add do not let your kids think the roll bar is a thing to hold on too. Very dangerous if you did roll & they grab that . So i suggest getting two paracord type grab handles that mount on the front head rests. Make them grab them instead. Thanks

    This was a great mod video and I loved the detail that went into it. Also appreciate your concern for safety particularly where the kids are concerned. Just curious whether you researched how much of a crumple zone Jeeps have in the back? That would be my greatest concern from the perspective of getting rear ended...I was in a multiple car wreck on the highway as a kid in the rear seat and was amazed how the trunk of our car was just compressed like an accordion. Later, I found out that many vehicles are designed with certain areas (crumple zones) front and back to be weaker and absorb the impact...an area you wouldn’t want to be physically in.

  • @nickm4095

    This is sweet. One thing tho I would look at a different way to mount the shoulder straps. Having them come down like that can cause damage to your kids spines in a accident.

    • @LoftisPartyofSix
      @LoftisPartyofSix  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure what you mean. How the shoulder straps come down like what?

    • @nickm4095
      @nickm4095 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was always thought that having your shoulder belts mounted to the bottom will compress the spine. You want them mounted so they only bent around the body at a 90° bend. This is why the pivot point on your factory shoulder belt is mounted up high so it presses you back in to the seat and not in a downward position. Hard to explain here let me see if I can find a video

    Would the door close if the seat frame was shorter or closer to the right instead lf the left? Your frame hugs the left and doesn’t close on the left. How about moving the frame closer to the right? That would of course need the welds to be longer on the left than the right to hug right up on the right and passengers would get in on the left. Great video and TIA! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

  • @mikehancho5286
    @mikehancho5286 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    4 point harness needs a rear cross bar to raise the fixed point to where in an accident it wont compress the spine.

    Awesome video. I have been getting a lot of questions about fitting car seats into a Wrangler and how to go 3 wide. I wrote an article about it and new people had been installing a third seat, but I had not seen it done yet. This is great. I really like what you have done. Clearly your kids will remember your adventures and the Jeep! I have a Grand Wagoneer because my Grandfather had one and we used to take vacations in it. I'm looking now for another Wrangler... Oh and my father is dying to find an RV to go travel.

  • @bear_82
    @bear_82 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Until you get a high lift jack, grab an extra ratchet and appropriate size socket & wrench, keep them in the glove box. Worst case scenario, you can remove the 3rd row seat to get to the jack. You know at some point you'll forget to take your spare jack, and that'll be the time you need it . . . :)

    If you ever version 2 the bracket offset it to the passenger side instead of sliding it forward. Easier for them to get in and pass on side the door opens AND the buldge that hits the seat will slide into the void the kids walk through.
    Great job though.
