Been practicing my topspin for about a month. Had some great success with it today at open play. Been playing about three months with no racquet sport background. Your channel has helped tremendously!!
“His partner is shaking his head yes and tapping paadles. I dont know why he did that.” My man would you rather have him be upset and screaming at his partner? This is exactly the types of people we need in the sport. Lift each other up regardless of the mistakes
The player with the blue legging is the same player from the first game. You rated him 3.0 in the first game and 3.5 in the second. Inconsistently with newer players is common. As far as the paddle tap at the beginning, he was just giving his partner encouragement after he hit a serve out. Displaying a positive attitude. Good for him.
Another great one! Love this style of video. Makes me better by knowing how to get smarter and smarter. I used to play football and being smart was 95% of the game. Love how similar the two are. Just need to educate myself! Thanks again!
I'm glad the videos are helping. That is the great thing about pickleball. Even though your opponents may be more athletic, you can outsmart them. Thanks for watching.
Looks like they were having fun so that’s what really matters. But as for rating I would agree with you on the ratings. The guy in the black hat would be closer to 4.0 if he was a little more consistent. His partner in the blue sleeveless is definitely 2.5 for all the reasons you mentioned. The others looks more like 3.0 with potentials of being 3.5 with some work.
Love the videos, even when the play is tough to watch. Rory I disagree when you call a 3rd shot drive “a wasted shot”. Often, a 3rd shot drive helps to set up a 5th shot drop. There are also people that can’t handle drives so having that information can be helpful too.
I just pointed out, I think it's a wasted shot when it's hit into the net. I know they're hoping for a pop-up and a shake and bake, or maybe to reset the fifth shot. Sometimes, even if it would have gone over, it would have been put back effectively. Thanks for watching. If my partner continually hits the third shot drives into the net, my opponents are never going to hit me a return of serve.
How were some of them 3.0 a year ago? 3 of them would really benefit from some professional help, especially if their goal is higher ratings. The player you rated highest could easily reach 4.0 in a matter of 3 lessons and better competition. If your having fun your companions who really cares what your ratings are!
There are likely some missed ratings from a year ago when they put themselves all as 3.0. I love the comment below about looking for training. This is not meant as a knock as all of us can always use training. There are drills that may help with developing the 3rd shot drop. I would agree with most thoughts in this on play but it's a small sample size. I think the play development and strategy is where the higher players should be looking to advance and the lower ones more likely some training for execution and positioning of their shots and their locations on the court. One other note I do have is there seems to be a real knock on being a 3.0-3.5 player and I don't think there should be. It seems to be a good spot to be in if you are looking for other players to play against and an easier spot to be in to grow.
People from tennis or a racquet sport excel much faster than most from what I see. I’m trying to master 3.5 level after a year and half with no tennis background. I still play 3.0 sometimes but partner level means a lot. The shot before the shot matters tons. Drive = offensive shot. Drop = neutral shot. Drive the 3rd, drop the 5th to advance if needed.
No offense to the tall guy in blue shirt, but your serve is the easiest skill to master in pb. Buy a bucket of pickle balls and find an empty court and hit about 50 serves three days a week until you cemented the muscle memory. No joke. That is exactly what I did, and I'm told my serve is a 4.0 level. However, everything else for me is a 3.0 because getting better requires drilling, and I can't seem to convince anyone around me to do practice drills.
Agree with your comment! I’d like to add, drilling will take everyone’s game to the next level! I feel there’s a small population of the community that loves to drill and those are the ones that are reallyyy good!
Played back at 1/4 speed and freeze frame at ball contact. Lady in yellow cap's serve from far court was illegal with highest part of paddle face above her wrist. Serve from near court appeared to be legal with highest part of paddle face at or below her wrist but looking down with the camera is not the best angle to determine legality.
I think your ratings are reasonable. I don't see illegal on the woman's serve. Maybe close but I would never call her on it. I feel the pain of the guy in blue. I can go weeks or even months without missing a serve and then miss one long one day, overcorrect the next one with an alligator arm short serve, and poof, I've got the yips.
I don't believe the serve is the easiest shot in PB but after a year you should be able to rip em. I only watched 5 mins, three can play decent, the one guy needs to do his buddies, and especially his partner a solid and practice... he's holding them back
Hi awesome Rory Wednesday is my Birthday I have a pickleball game youtube channel Stephanie Ross pickleball or Stephanie ross flowrider. I posted 5 games from August 17th 2024.Would you be able to pick apart and write my game? That would be wonderful. I figure I am one level but would love to see what someone else thinks. Playing 3 years in Sept. Have taken four 3 day clinics and many alone or group privates. I think I finally got positioning.Sometimes it's helpful if the other person understands positioning too. I have another game from a couple of weeks ago.Gals against guys a 27 min game 14 to 16
The blue guy will have hard time to find partners at the 3.0 wanting to play with him. He should play at 2.5 and he will find partners that will be happy yo play with him.
I think if anyone enjoys the sport, they should seek players their level or a knotch higher and enjoy the sport. Take lessons or drill & play if they want to improve, and definitely don't listen to people saying try a different sport.
I would never tell someone who has invested a year, and probably $100s of dollars in equipment, that they should try a different sport. Sounds very rude.
@@Basilisk2077 You can tell that this guy plays for the fun of playing and that should be enough!! Not everyone regardless of how long you play can become a 4.0 or 5.0. Just play and enjoy it!!
2.75. Good day, 3.0. Bad day, 2.5. The mechanics aren't there, and there's no rhyme or reason for placement of shots on the court. No understanding of court coverage and how to position to protect your teammate on poor returns. Speaking of that, poor returns. Fundamentals need a full rework, start to finish before moving beyond a 3.0 level.
I think these players are all high 3.0s to maybe low 3.5 , except the guy in blue. I disagree that the inability to serve makes you a 2.0. I personally have the service yips very bad right now...but if I'm on the court with 3.0s I win every match, even if I have to rely completely on my partners serve. A few weeks ago, I won silver at 4.0, missed literally 60-70 percent of my serves. I'm certainly not a 2.0. Your rating is a combination of your skills, strategy, and athlethism.
@pickleballpick-apart9787 I have no idea why, which makes it super frustrating. I've had to completely change how I play, to adjust for my team only having one serve per side out.
Been practicing my topspin for about a month. Had some great success with it today at open play. Been playing about three months with no racquet sport background. Your channel has helped tremendously!!
Nice job with the topspin. I'm glad my channel is helping. Thanks for watching.

Good point. I just see players tap paddles after every point, no matter the outcome and wonder why they do that.
@@pickleballpick-apart9787 Yes, it is an effort to reduce tension and help the partner not feel bad which can spiral into worse outcomes.
Totally agree w Rory.
Thanks for watching.
I am 3.0 level and working toward 3.5 . I agree exactly with your assessment of all four.
Thanks for your opinion and thanks for watching. Best of luck making it to 3.5.

2.5-3.0 players that are trying to do 4.0 skills and forget to learn 3.5 skills. I would say these players barely warm up much less drill.

You are absolutely correct. Here's my advice. Do what I did. Buy a pickleball ball machine.
True! Probably 90% of recreational players never drill. Professional players probably drill more than they actually play. Thanks for watching.
@@pickleballpick-apart9787You can get one for around $100. They’re not fancy, but using mine has really helped me improve my drops and returns.
I’d say they are 2.5 to 3 Range
The near court smaller fella in the reddish shirt seems to be best Player on the Court and a solid 3.0
Thanks for watching and thanks for your opinion.
My thought is that this is a group of players rated 2.5 - 3.2.5 the black cap player being 3.2.5
No I think he's like a 3.75 and will be a 4.0 at some point.

Serve from near court appeared to be legal with highest part of paddle face at or below her wrist but looking down with the camera is not the best angle to determine legality.
Thanks so much for doing that. In most circumstances it's a very tough call. I do think a couple of her serves were illegal.

Lady’s serve has paddle tip a little high and hitting ball waist high or more.
I think it's a close call as to whether or not it's legal or illegal. Thanks for watching.
Not sure what you mean by paddle tip.
Not part of the paddle face can be above your wrist at ball contact.
Waist high is ok.
To me the paddle tap means good shot or play and will not paddle tap for poor play. It does not make sense to me to reward play errors.

Only one is a 3.5. Her serve looks legal to me.

The man and the girl team 3.0. Guy on red and cap 3.25 and the guy in blue 2.75 in my view.

If the guy in blue has been playing regularly for a year, he needs to try a different sport.

on almost all the serves they appear to be releasing the ball way too high. imho

2.5 at best

Blue Shirt - if he has been playing like this for awhile really needs lessons. Sorry.
Some players drill and take lessons. Some players just play. Thanks for watching.
playing pickleball matches does not make you a better pickleball player. Drills develop skills that make you a better player.

100% an illegal serve. It has to be below her belly button if I'm not mistaken.

illegal serve
Maybe so. Sometimes hard to tell.
