zippers are the worst thing ever put on a boot, unless its for little kids to make it easy, or in the navy (fast removal if overboard). Zippers fail. I stick by full lace system. Laces can be swapped out in under a minute, and if one breaks on the move your boot won't completely blow out, taking an ankle with it. I will never ever use boots with zippers again.

I still have my Bates GX8s. Mostly for yard work now after product failure. Great comfort and mobility. However, after 8 months, the zipper became wonky and one of the "plastic" lace guides became loose and fell out of its designation while on a security detail. Several emails and 2 phone messages to Bates Corporate and no return mail or calls about the issues. I gave up and now have a new yard boot! Thanks Bates.

Purchased my 3rd pair of Response Gear made by T.O.F.C.. Side-Zip II Wide in addition to
laces. Model 1077 again found sale priced under $30. Use mine for cave exploration if
swim or wading seems likely, hiking, motorcycling, and volunteer single-track trail repairs.
Not armored or mud-lug equal to the Cofra Thermic now made in Italy; ditto, all the boots
seen in this video. That Italian boot had originally been designed for Russian civilian heavy
industry and Spetsnaz military use as all-weather for Asia/Eastern Europe. I'm on a 2nt
pair of those and started with the orange-colored type then made in Soviet Romania .
Which are in use today as porch planters for rain forest wildflowers. Probably not what
the Central Committee of the Russian Communist Party was expecting.

why do you think that any of these models are the best tactical military boots?
some tips about really good boots:
    - have (in general) vibram soles or similar
    - have goretex or similar tecnology
    - non zip
    - are be probed in combat
    - are in actual use by military
    - be multipropuse
    - have an antimicrobial sole
any of these boots are really good... only good if you like... 🙄

I have the 5.11 Speed 3.0 Desert 120 Coyote R (entry level). I am not in law enforcement, I am actually in sales for a shift of 8 hours without sitting down. I use them daily going for 4 years.
Cons: 1. The mesh where it meets the leather on the rear of the ankle is starting to come apart ( just a few centimeters). 2. The zipper has chewed up the protective layer of material between the zipper and the socks ( although I feel that I was designed for easy of use rather than just comfort).
Pros: Very comfortable (feel like thick socks with a strong, but cushioned sole), lightweight weight, non-slip soles, water proof, do not retain heat. Although I have worn out the cushion over time, I am still happy with the comfort. I have no negative feedback on the zipper other than the problem I mentioned earlier. I don't think I would buy boots without the zipper.
These were entry level boots around $110 at a surplus store. I remember 5.11 boots with added features for twice the price. I have no experience with other brands other than Dr. Martens which I also recommend. I am happy with my boots, and I will purchase the higher priced version soon.

    • @Kaltwasser45
      @Kaltwasser45 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I've been wearing mine for the last three weeks. I'm on my feet all day (Contractor) doing carpentry of all types. Luckily I paid 80.00 for them at the 5.11 store. The fairly light weight and comfort are what keep me going back and wearing these out of the 10 or so different combat boots I have. My Bates RAT's are the most rugged and comfortable but they're heavy. They have been heavily abused at work for 4.5 years and may have a couple of years left. Heavy stitching on these.
I think my 5.11's 3.0's may get a year or out of them with the use I put on boots. Pretty good urban boots but I wouldn't trust them for any serious prolonged work in the rough.
I think either Wellco, Bates, or Danner combat hikers will be my next ones.

Unfortunately none of these boots are any good for temperate or cold conditions. Don’t get me wrong lightweight boots are important but the majority of professional soldiers I know have several pairs of boots for specific conditions as well as a general purpose set. Most of the boots in this video are more suited for general purpose and every day use, I wouldn’t use any of these when I’m roughing it out in the field for even a week let alone any serious time on exercise or operation but that’s my opinion

Is there a way to not buy 2 or 3 pairs? I mean i have yet to find the cris cross 8 inch lace instead of zipper that may break. They make zip lace to zip modifiers for front for less than 10 bucks. So if zipper sticks or breaks you can take out filler and relace. So this narrows it down to full waterproof or hot, or cool not waterproof. It should have ztracking and anti puncture carbon fiber toe. Maybe its betters to have water just drain? Why not dagger knife whole as well. I usually have roman step with overpronation. I am trying a pair of blackhawks that i cant find if our puncture proof for spikes place in survival path scenerio. Also the thuroughgoods were recommended and first tactical. I were 12.5 too so some dont come in half sizes. Such a hard item to shop for gain of function in with accurate listings. Ill be an expert in boots while finding the right one. PS. Not retarded or drunk but i dont edit with smart phones and fat big hands anymore...

You have never used Bates boots. Three partners and me used them and were the worst boots we ever used. Fragile and went to the brush container in less than 2 years for everyone.
THE BEST BOOT BRANDS ARE LALO, HAIX, SALOMON, CRISPY....GERMAN, GERMAN-ENGLISH, FRENCH, ITALIAN, MADE IN CROATIA, SPAIN....YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT BOOTS.

@@josepharnold1345 just try any of these brands I've mentioned and you will see the difference. If you are in the US you could find Salomon Forces boots (the same brand but the boots are all in black, brown or olive green) or Lalo. I don't know if you would find Haix or Crispy.

  • @jdhagan2

Lie! I've owned 2 pairs of Bates. 1 a pair of uniform dress shoes and a pair of duty boots. Both didn't last a year, the dress shoe sole started coming off at a funeral! And, the boot blew the front right side out. I now wear Salomons, also worn by US Special Operations. Not even reviewed, guess they wouldn't sponsor your video! Of course they don't have too.
