My buddy in California bought one of these boats two years ago. It was quite an adventure for him: He found out he needed a more powerful engine than his 25 hp one, had to modify the trailer he had for the inflatable, had to find a boat dealer to accept the shipment, state tax and license, import fees, transport fees, paying for installation of the console and railings, electrical hookups, etc., etc. One year passed before he could use the boat. Overall approx. $25000+. Heck you can go to a boat dealer and buy a ready to ride boat within a week for the same price.
Definitely no less than 40hp. The cost does spiral upward quite quickly once you add in everything that's standard on a fully equipped boat. The saying BOAT = break out another thousand is pretty accurate.
Not going to lie, it was quite funny to hear all the things you said as your “lessons learned”. But thats half the fun being able to laugh at yourself down the road once you got it down 🤣
Pro tip for trailer backing: Don’t place your hands like you normally drive. You’re backing a trailer, not driving forward. Put ONE had at the 6 o’clock position, keep it there, don’t touch the wheel with your other. With the hand at 6 o’clock, you move it to the left to make the rear of the trailer go left and right to make it go right. Try it next time. Much easier for your brain. Driving with your hands at the top is counterintuitive to how you normally drive, since 99.99% of most driving is forwards.
Pro tip from a pro. If the trailer is filling your right hand mirror turn the wheel to the right. If the trailer starts filling your left hand mirror turn your wheel to the left. So watch your mirrors and pay attention and you can straight line back and not look like a goofball at the dock. Go to a parking lot and place some objects out there and try backing up to them. Driver side and blind side backing is lesson number two.
Man this is awesome. I'm a first-time boat buyer as well. I haven't actually pulled the trigger yet but this is what I was thinking about purchasing. They're just hard to find in the United States. If you don't mind me asking how much was it shipped? Also some advice on learning how to backup a trailer. When you're steering wheel is at the 12:00 position put a piece of tape at 12:00. This will help you remember where your wheels are in relation to the steering wheel. It helps for correcting in little increments.
Thanks for the tip! I'm on the west coast so shipping was pretty expensive... Check out boat moving company for a good estimate of how much it would cost base on distance from the dealer to your location.
@@KAWFISHING I think the closest dealer to me is in Australia. At that rate I'd be better off living in California. Seen Australia is closer to California than it is Ohio.
Was the gouge addressed? Lot easier to have the dealer set everything up. My foam filled 500 Pro R with 50 E Tek, center console , bow rails, bimini, 2 xtra seat/lockers, deep cycle battery, light kit, flares, oars & trailer w spare tire ran me 26 k complete last year. I run out of Port Clinton Ct. The dealer is in New Town. Send a phone # if you want a text pic.
Your setup sounds awesome! It seems the solution to the gouge is to melt in some of the plastic to weld it together. I will make a video on it to show the effectiveness of that approach.
I am in Connecticut and am about to pull the trigger on one. I am going center console set to the back bench and will be getting the same features except for the light kit. (Which any tips on that would be sweet) Any advice? Any recommendations? Are they as rad as I hope they are? Haha Sorry, it’s so hard to find information on these around here.
@@RyanGalligan Yea it was definitely really difficult to get any information on this boat. I'm still in the process of setting mine up so stay posted on future videos of the build! I'm experimenting myself and will let you know how it works out. Hoping to get my hands on a bigger outboard come spring before setting up the center console.
@@RyanGalligan I run my 2020 500 R out of Port Clinton Marina in Clinton Ct. Shoot me a cell # to Biz 4 Marines @ comcast.net . I will text a pic/s of my set up with a 50 Etek. It's described above.
Dude, do yourself, passengers and other boaters a favour, find some knowledge on marine safety and education on all aspects of this process. On the water and especially in an emergency situation you must know what to do "now", there may be no time to think about it. It literally may be life or death! If I can I will compare it this way: you have bought a jet and without any knowledge or training your taking it out for its first flight at mach one. Do you think you might want to have some basic skills first? Best of luck. Takecare.
Hey Naed, thanks for the heads-up. Marine safety is definitely important knowledge. In my state, I’m required to pass a boater’s course and get a license prior to operating the boat, so you can rest assure I’m up to speed on marine safety and skills required to operate the boat prior to being out on the water. Practice provide experience though and that's why I took it out on a small lake for its first trial. Will be highlighting more information to first time boaters with these videos. Thanks for watching!
I have a whaly 370 for 5 years now. And i am still impresst how good it is. Greetings from the netherlands
Glad to hear your experience, I'm looking forward to seeing how this boat holds up here in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the tip! That hand placement advice definitely makes maneuvering more intuitive.

Wrong I'm a truck driver don't ever put ur hands 6 o clock
In the process of buying one myself. Gonna have it be modular as I can. I can’t wait to see what you come up with on yours.
Thanks for watching! I'll be making a bunch more videos on setting up the boat to make it a fishing machine.
Im getting ready to make my order for this boat
Really enjoying the tour of your sweatpants
I know this post is a year old, but I’m in PNW and am thinking about one of these boats. I’m near Sammamish where you were.

Thanks.👍
How much was it?
did it come with that flooring or did you add it?
It came with the plastic flooring.
Do u use a bilge pump?
Yes I have a manual bilge pump. Looking to install an electric one once I have the console permanently installed.
Tell me, how much does this boat cost? In Latvia, Whally 455 costs 4700 euros.
They go for ~$9500 usd in the states.
@@KAWFISHING 🙉Ехspensive.
You cannot compare the 455 with this one
1 . that is not a scratch, that is a gouge, it will lead to a flex point and leak within hours.
What did the 16 ft boat cost ?
They go for ~$9.5k barebone.
Where to buy?
If you're in the US, you can order from WhalyBoatUSA.
