Couldn't put my finger on what was not quite correct about this? Having got some paletts I now know what it is. Yours has 3 solid beams that the boards are nailed on too. All mine and all I have seen for years are wood saving paletts. These have 3 small blocks of wood, one top, one middle, one bottom with a board running from top to bottom on two sides of the blocks and thus saving on wood. Many thanks.
You’re right. Many are made that way. These ones had bricks on them. All the ones I’ve seen with bricks on them have the timber struts for added strength. Might be different where you are though?
Thank you for putting up this vid. I am going to try this for my outside entry. It looks like it would fit perfectly! I like your little fixes like using two to make larger soil volume.
making one now! Not painting mine so just have to put my landscape material on and then I am good to load up my baby lettuce plants. Thanks for great instructions! I love it!
Looks like a very good job mate! Easy to follow instructions as well. Thanks for the good quality video. Enjoy those herbs. Greg from Cincinnati, Ohio USA
Thank you Thierry. Glad you enjoyed it. Things are quite busy at the moment but I promise to get at least a video a month up until I have more time - I've got some big garden projects on the go so looking forward to being able to share!!
We can get free pallets from our hardware store, and some are taking these free pallets and selling them for $5.00. I have a stack of them, so far I have made a workbench, a deep sink cabinet. I hope to make an outside sink cabinet and I hope to replace the metal cabinets in the damp cellar, turning to rust, with the wooden pallet shelving from floor to ceiling. But, I am having a difficult time finding this project on YT, so I may have to 'wing' it.
As you may have guessed, I do like a good composting system and want to encourage more people to do it so yes, definitely. It might take me a little while though - things are a little crazy here at the moment and I don't have as much time as I'd like to put into making and editing videos. It's something I want to do soon though.
Glad you found it useful. I have a single pallet one that works okay for succulents but the double width would definitely be better if you want to grow flowers, herbs or veggies as they'll need more soil/water.
Oh my goodness the production of all your videos is so amazing I was sure you’d be a bigger TH-camr. I am so so impressed. This inspired me and I subscribed immediately. Love your videos 💛🌿
Hi Bea, thank you for the kind words. I actually make films for a living but it is very strange doing it all myself and being in front of the camera - this lockdown time has allowed me to finally combine my two passions, gardening & story telling. All the best, Josh.
Hi Chantel, I used some shade cloth as the lining but you could use weed matting or anything like that, it just need to be able to drain from the bottom. If you're not sure about the treatment on the timber you might also want to put some black plastic on the inside of the wood. Paint wise, it was just some left over decking paint. Any exterior paint should be okay.
How are you able to use the screwdriver and hammer to take apart the planks of wood without breaking them? I've been trying but the planks keep breaking :(
I did lose a couple to breakage as well, but mostly the timber was fairly strong. You may need to try something with a wider, flatter surface like a cold chisel?
Of sorts. I actually have a three stage composting system, Bokashi first, that goes into standard compost bins with leaves, shredded paper and sawdust, and then when it's time to turn I use some of the partially broken down compost in the worm farm.
That's right, some are treated, you do need to be careful. If you don't know the origin of the pallet and are concerned about the treatment you can try lining them with black plastic or sitting pots in the frame instead.
Not yet. It's on the list, but with everything else going on I haven't been able to spend much time making these videos lately. Hoping to get back into it as things start returning to normal here.

And use natural sealers and not paint that contains chemicals that can leech into the soil as well...
Good tip! thx
Checked my pallets and they have the stamp to say they are safe and...they are made of cedar 🙂

Good luck, sounds like it would be a great addition!
This is awesome! I've been wanting to find a cool diy vertical garden. And I love how sustainable and cost effective this is!
Thanks Madi! Good luck if you try building one too.

we couldn't get the slats off with a crow bar so we used a jigsaw and cut them

Beautiful
Wow!!! 😮 that's so awesome....well done 👌😁
Thank you!! 😁
Looks fantastic! Covid-19 has me looking for projects and I have the pallets, so I let you know how it turns out. Thanks so much for posting.
Please do, I look forward to hearing about it!
Great video! Can I get a link to that music? Pretty good stuff!
Glad you like it, me too, but most of the people who mention the music on my videos hate it 😂😭😆. It’s all library music from Audio Jungle.
Great video
Great job! I particularly like the double pallet approach model; the single one is nice but as you said, it dries out really fast. Thank you.
Thank you!
Great idea for those of us who don't have much space 👍
I think so too!
Did u know you can use ground cinnamon as a root hormone +anti insect +fertiliser?
Love that you put the silverbeet in too
Interesting. I’ll have to try that!
Thank You
So glad I found an Aussie and based in Melbourne too. I’m about to make one to cover my aircon. Wish me luck. Thank you.
Good luck with your build, I'm sure it'll be great!
Are you Melbourne based too?
The Bite Sized Garden I’m looking forward to it. Yes I am based in Melbourne 🤗
Looks great Josh 👏👏👏
Thanks 👍

Can you do a "simple worm casting compost bin tutorial? I really appreciate how and what you did with this video.Thankyou

Wowww thank you so much for this I have an old pallet layin around... now I just need to find another one hahahahah!
Glad you found it useful. I have a single pallet one that works okay for succulents but the double width would definitely be better if you want to grow flowers, herbs or veggies as they'll need more soil/water.
You could always make one that's half the height of the pallet?..
Wow - nice!
Thanks!
I love this ! So easy to follow, thank you for teaching me how to reuse while I waste less and enjoy my very own garden 🪴🥰
Amazing video thank you so much, off I go In search of free pallets. I’m so doing this.
Glad it was helpful!
Love it thanks 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Nice, next project for me.
Good luck!
Parabéns pelo seu trabalho 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

I agree.😊😉🤗
hi. two questions. what is the name of the lining? what type of paint did you use?
Hi Chantel, I used some shade cloth as the lining but you could use weed matting or anything like that, it just need to be able to drain from the bottom. If you're not sure about the treatment on the timber you might also want to put some black plastic on the inside of the wood. Paint wise, it was just some left over decking paint. A pleasure. Working hard on another build video at the moment, hope you like that too!
thanks for showing vodeo
My pleasure
Can you list the slow release fertilizer and straw like medium you used?
Hi Paula, the straw was sugar cane mulch and the fertilizer was a slow release for pots or indoor plants.
I would love to see how this looked in a month! Great video:)
Did you make your own worm casting system
Of sorts. I actually have a three stage composting system, Bokashi first, that goes into standard compost bins with leaves, shredded paper and sawdust, and then when it's time to turn I use some of the partially broken down compost in the worm farm.
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
dang now I regret not taking the two pallets someone a block over was throwing out..
Keep your eye out, I'm sure you'll see more!
Genius, I love it and I want one! Would sell it??
Thanks, but why not make one? They really are easy!
Can I use any pallets? I heard some of them are treated with chemicals
That's right, some are treated, you do need to be careful. If you don't know the origin of the pallet and are concerned about the treatment you can try lining them with black plastic or sitting pots in the frame instead.
Should definitely cook soil after amending with goat shit.
Nice work though, on both project and video.
Do u have an update?
Not yet. It's on the list, but with everything else going on I haven't been able to spend much time making these videos lately. Hoping to get back into it as things start returning to normal here.
0:57 Since you're talking about safety, you should wear gloves to remove nails from splintery wood...
You're so right. I'm getting better at wearing gloves!
Looks great Josh👏👏👏
Thanks Kathy - you really are Great!
