Melda plugins are amazing and they force you to learn how to be a producer as they do so many things but you have to get stuck in, if people knew this at the start they'd save loads of money and be way better at crafting sounds, this included me, have a great day! ;D

Melda plugins are ahead of the game for sure. Thank you for watching this quick tutorial

It's better if you're after straight saturation but very often one uses a compressor specifically for how it's impact changes over time each time it's triggered. The attack and release controls are there by design and for good reason.
I think this was lost on some of the commenters who took this video to mean "you don't even need compressors, just use a waveshaper" rather than "sometimes you really just want a waveshaper and not a compressor."
I can certainly understand, I know I found compression confusing - not in theory so much but in all the ways people talk about using it, the many types , and the various musical results - and I found it quite hard to perceive at first. However, the effect on sound can be profound even when still subtle and not heavily pumping, and in ways a waveshaper won't give you and it's definitely worth understanding. Anyone unfamiliar with this regarding compressors should watch videos on how to hear compression. Once it clicks you start hearing it all over.
That said, mwaveshaper is a great tool to have on hand and sometimes you DO just want a waveshaper and not a compressor.

This made my master. Now I get the same loudness with less limiting needed. Glad this just saved me from buying one of these fancy plugins, that do the same thing behind the scenes. Melda is great and I already own other of their great tools.

using waveshapers was a big breakthrough for me too

Waveshaper and a compressor are way different tools usualy for way different purposes.
A compressor is reactive and shapes giving contour and usualy helps to perceive transients ou the resonance...
Waveshapers are constant as an EQ and flatten the wave (signal) almost like (soft and hard) clippers...
Compressors are better for one thing and waveshapers are better for other things.
But BOTH can help to increase the sound perception and bring the lower parts way up...
    Thank you for the video!

I thought you had mentioned in noisias patreon that you noticed red lining sounded better than all these other clippers out there? Granted their answer back was incredibly vague. Which video of theirs did they mention this in?

i can't remember which video specifically, but other artists are starting to use this method too. as with anything, if you're wondering what will get you the best result- have a shootout with several different techniques and compare results to find what sounds best to you.

@@ProducerDojo Thanks for asking. I would like to learn more about advanced sound design of drum elements from scratch. For instance the typical RT 707 kick (AHA - take on me) is not just that pitch envelope chat that we already know from tons of tutorials - there must be more to it. It would be an awesome power to do that yourself so you don't have to rely on samples.

The free edition isn't too useful, since the oversampling is missing. Waveshaping requires oversampling, since it will introduce aliasing artefacts otherwise!

Very interesting concept huh?! Lots of ways to do similar techniques. Thank you for the comment!

Melda offer the best tutorials and wonderful-looking software; but the output quality is very poor. Have you also tried their MAutoPitch? It hardly corrects any errant pitch and loads too much artifact. Maybe paid versions are better, but the poor quality of processed audio in the free versions discourages me from investing in them.

yeah, there are other vsts i turn to for pitch.. i can't speak for every single thing in the melda bundle, but mwaveshaper is AMAZING and is worth getting the free bundle for that alone.

Would clipping work in the same way?

    • @two-tone4594
      @two-tone4594 ปีที่แล้ว

Clipping works well for percussive sounds. Not so much for tonal sounds like this. The digital distortion introduced is very harsh and noticeable.
