Having worked with Canadians briefly, they were so cool and in awe of us in our M1151s, and they were in leopard tanks and LAVs. Unfortunately after going as far as they could they stopped and we kept going on our mission. We heard shortly after that a Canadian soldier had stepped on an old Russian mine and been killed instantly, and others wounded.
that's crazy, I had watched a video maybe a year ago about the kid swinging the axe...it never mentioned a taliban attack right after, but had said how the whole kids family was eliminated by the village elders..even crazier is I had mentioned this to my mom today because we had been talking about certain areas/religions customs.

Pilots are usually really good at over verifying before laying weapons down so this incident was surprising to hear about. If a weapons system was being used on the ground to fire at the two pilots, would they not have seen visual evidence coming through the air from the ordinance of that weapon coming at them vs seeing an explosion on the ground only and taking that as their evidence?? The radio chatter between the pilots and the pilots & their ground comms didn't sound like the other pilot fealt threatened by what they were seeing on the ground. So the guilty pilot, without a doubt, seemed trigger happy to me. If it showed it,I didn't visually/audibly see/hear what the pilots altitude was when he fealt threatened, but regardless, could he not have just climbed however many thousands of feet to clearly remove himself from any threat on the ground at minimum to give him a few additional minutes to verify if it was indeed a threat before dropping a jdam??
If the accounts of the Russian solders, also defeated in Afghanistan, had been reviewed in advance, they'd known better than to get involved there. The Russians also thought air-power would allow them to win. The Russians were chased out; didn't pack up and go. So were the allied "NATO" powers. The purpose of the mission was a recon-in-force or more to the point -- a propaganda offensive-- or more to the point a gross expenditure of money that should have been spent on social programs in Canada. There was never any chance of colonizing Afghanistan. Colonization died after the first WW and that's where it should stay. The impression one gets from listening to these people-- is that there was no clear mission goal, they all say something different. The only thing that seems persistent is a revision of the language-- "civilian rebuilding team" "free medical care" (no paid by Canadian citizens). At the end, we are to believe we made things better for them. The people are now x10 times worse off then before we went there. We helped very view of our employees--who were captured and killed later on.
Except someone gave Afghanistan MANPADS in 80s. If Russia was cynical enough to do that when US was there the war would have been over in half the time ans double the casualties
They knew but they thought they were better. And maybe they are, but not good enough to fight a gorilla war with motive related to region in a country far away from home.
It's the hubris for me. Everyone thinks they can win where others have failed but never learn the lessons of the past. As a veteran myself, I can say this war was a waste of treasure and blood all for just one man.
Afghanistan has resisted British empire 3-4 times, soviet's and Americans. Historically the attitude has been entertaining at your own risk as land is not conquerable with tribals. These different factions fight and war regionally constantly so when an outside invader enters they band all the tribes together in a unified fighting force. I.s. knew this it's why their approach was as it was. They knew that if seen as occupation like Iraq....would have been attacked and picked off like soviet's. British was insanity doing same thing over and over expecting different results. Afghan resistance is no joke. Taliban just laid low and even agreed with Americans to resume when void was created. All sadly predictable historically. Special forces operations would have been way to go with hindsight obviously looking at "war on terror" or Iraq/Afghanistan
They should have defended themselves against the taliban and then told their story. If you won’t defend yourself against tyrants you don’t deserve a story. Over $3Trillion was spent trying to make it a workable country and they rolled over in a day.
Situation normal, the country fights itself when there not fighting the usa, canada, uk, russia, etc etc. the middle east is at war 100% of the time in one form for over 1000 years.
Imagine if after the Russians pulled out and we gave Charlie all the support he needed, things would have turned out different there, I believe, but no stupidity won out.
Imagine the level of mental fortitude of MC Paul Franklin - The Medical Technician. Lost both his legs in the middle of an active combat zone, but still got a great sense of humor make jokes and laugh about it.
My dad was there in both of the “blue on blue” situations.. directly in tarnak farms and was in country during the other! Thank God he was okay and not wounded in tarnak farms and Thank God he wasn’t in the platoon of soldiers where the “warthog” strafed us! My dad recalls running into the area where his good friend ainsworth dyer was to check if he was okay.. he said “ains! You okay?!” “His weapon was still in hand, sitting up and eyes were open.. but the entire back of his head was missing”.. the Americans are absolutely mental! 🤬 my dad has had many close calls.. it’s disgusting to know that so many people’s lives were ruined or ended at the hands of incompetent Americans! My dad went there many times and has done his fair share of deployments! 95-96 Bosnia, 2002-2006-2009-2011 Afghanistan and 2012-2013 the Congo. He served with the 3PPCLI in Bosnia and Afghanistan for 2002 and 2006, then the rest of his deployments were with special forces under CANSOFCOM .. retired fully in 2016.. General Carlson determined that Major Schmidt, an Illinois Air National Guard F-16 Fighting Falcon pilot, “flagrantly disregarded a direct order from the controlling agency, exercised a total lack of basic flight discipline over (his) aircraft, and blatantly ignored the applicable rules of engagement and special instructions.” This “willful misconduct directly caused the most egregious consequences imaginable, the deaths of four coalition soldiers and injury to eight others.” In the reprimand, General Carlson wrote that Major Schmidt “acted shamefully on April 17, 2002, over Tarnak Farms, Afghanistan, exhibiting arrogance and a lack of flight discipline.” The reprimand points out that Major Schmidt’s flight lead warned him to “make sure it’s not ‘friendlies,’” and the Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft controller directed him to “stand by” and later to “hold fire.”
@@JonathanH1253billions spent, thousands harmed and it STILL came down to a couple special operation units with help from The Company. Was it worth it...? Former member of 3 PPCLI, I struggle with this every day now and have been fora while... I got hit over there multiple fractures through my chest, most my ribs, sternum and collarbone... Recovery from that required me to release from active duty, but i did recover.... physically... Mentally... That question "was it worth it...?" takes me to some very dark places...
🇨🇦🇺🇸🫡 to all who served courageously, may there deaths or the people they were,be never forgotten, these stories of peril and the countless acts of heroism all these men and women have done, will not be in done in vain.and there stories will forever live on and remain in the memories and hearts of all that have been spared. these very strong men and women are heroes that should be celebrated in their countless acts of heroism be remembered for who they are as friends, brothers sisters, mothers fathers, mentors comrades. My heart goes out to all of those that have lost the good fight. And may they live on forever, and the hearts, minds,of those that are still alive today. These first-hand accounts and videos and interviews of what has happened leaves me at awe, of the bravery, and selflessness, that we have humans seem to forget to easily. I have been put down by other countries, because of the fact that we love honor and cherish our heroes of the free world. I will always celebrate these men and women, even in the face of adversity, no matter what. There is tons of these men and women that will live on in my mind for the rest of my life for their unbelievable selfless acts to protect all of us.🇨🇦🇺🇸🦅
Well said.
I was only 9 years old in 02. Crazy how we didn't pull out until long after I had become an adult
I was 11 when the war started and I fought in Afghanistan when I was 20
I was 4 years old in 02 and I got blown up in Helmand in 2018
Great doc thanks, greetings from brazil
And we dishonored them all by how we left 😡🤦🏻♂️😡
🤣 Afghanistan hurt son.... no one can beat Pukhtuns... imagine f...king US and Nato together without having a standing army and almost no economy. but US lost all wars vietnam, iraq lol
Facts what a disgrace
Who signed that deal?? And what were we supposed to do, make Afghanistan "Far Eastern America" & stay forever?? Republicans & their nation building BS has never worked, not once, but they sure love to keep trying with someone else's kids doing the fighting
I doubt that.....they would be glad that you made it through.
@emstirling-is4nu nah. that withdrawl was a effing disgrace
War is not the answer. But Thank You for Your Service
Everything these men did, everything they sacrificed, everything the locals voiced and were able to change, the bloodletting over the 2 decades plus... it all seems in vain now that none of that governmental infrastructure still exists. It's... it's just so frustrating to see what became of it all from where we stand today. I want to cry for the lives so pointlessly lost.
What a brave man, the one with the beard and dark glasses respect 🙏 🫡 👏 and also for all the other soldiers 👍 🎉
also, thank you to the Afghan Resistance who continues the fight, and thank you to the Afghans who fought beside us in this war.
As an American civilian who loves hockey and has some friends some friends up north who also love hockey…….DO NOT MESS WITH OLD CANADIAN MEN
14:14 how did I know the friendly fire excuse was coming
I won't forget this soldiers.. when they took my entire family out, while i was kid by then 😢😢..in front my eyes..its hunting me ,everyday in my life, sleepless night.. accused my family. While we re innocent..i can still see them in my heart..the guy with the mask camouflage facee...i was rescued by his mate, American marine,he wear sunglasses.. after they left the house..he comes back 😭😭 and give me food..and took me to a refugees camp..i never saw Him again...life really been though for me . Later i was taken by Black African soldiers, that's was being there as peace keeping, he brings me to his country in Africa, west Africa 😢😢..am really grateful to him ..he really, take care of me as his son's..😢😢😢
Love our brothers up North!!🇺🇸🇨🇦 Thank you all.
I feel that both forces from the U.S. and Canada really sacrificed lives to do what was right and it's just sad the way the U.S. withdrew their forces and lost everything they fought for together with the Canadian forces.
There had to be a darn good reason for the quick withdrawal.....It may have been a blessing in disguise that more did not make it home.
Much respect n prayers for all these men young n older 👍🙏♥️🙏
GOD bless the Canadians.
"America has all the clocks, but Afghanistan has all the time" - Tribal Elder Kandahar province
Quote from Vietnam that gets used for everything now.
Many thanks to the Canadians for all you sacrificed. I had no idea y'all were there and in watching this, I now feel honored for your support. I'm so sorry that it all seems for nothing now after Biden's disastrous pull out. To say Americans are angry is an understatement. Again, thank you for your service.

Canadian Heros ❤❤❤
God bless you all. 😊
Where did spending all the time to type that out get you? Did the 11 likes help you feel better about the situation?
It's the hubris for me. Everyone thinks they can win where others have failed but never learn the lessons of the past. As a veteran myself, I can say this war was a waste of treasure and blood all for just one man.
Yeah. "Spend that money on social programs" That's the most Canadian thing I've heard all day. @jaydenjeffries412
I wonder how ordinary Afghanis are traumatized and who will tell their story!
Special forces operations would have been way to go with hindsight obviously looking at "war on terror" or Iraq/Afghanistan
there is another video about it
They should have defended themselves against the taliban and then told their story. If you won’t defend yourself against tyrants you don’t deserve a story. Over $3Trillion was spent trying to make it a workable country and they rolled over in a day.
@@Giveme1goodreasonI see there's no mention of CIA involvement with Mujahedeen/Taliban in your post back in the late 70s. Typical Yank brain.
Situation normal, the country fights itself when there not fighting the usa, canada, uk, russia, etc etc. the middle east is at war 100% of the time in one form for over 1000 years.
This documentary reminds me of Charlie Wilsons War movie
Imagine if after the Russians pulled out and we gave Charlie all the support he needed, things would have turned out different there, I believe, but no stupidity won out.
we were 2 Commado RCR and Patricias
Spark plugs? I find it quite ridiculous that it was assumed the locals in need of parts, had not already tried to source locally!... pure ignorance.
I’m a grown man (32 years old) and I still say that my father is and always will be my hero. Thank you to whoever else has served in the military! Especially those who volunteered to go to war! You are all a special kind of people and I honestly think it’s those people that deserve millions of dollars! Not people that play around with some kind of ball 🤦🏻♂️
At 27:00 what optic does the soldier use?
I wanna hear and see more from our allies on their pov and experience during GWOT

The testament about having to prove that their injuries are FOREVER makes me so angry. And it doesn’t matter who is sitting in parliament, they continue to prove that they’re incapable of looking after our veterans and their families, and the families of the fallen.
We had a troop of Canadians embedded with us. Solid dudes man. Very courageous loyal fighters. Love them all! They fought like it was their own country attacked after 9/11. They didnt have to but damn sure did and didnt miss a beat!
General Carlson determined that Major Schmidt, an Illinois Air National Guard F-16 Fighting Falcon pilot, “flagrantly disregarded a direct order from the controlling agency, exercised a total lack of basic flight discipline over (his) aircraft, and blatantly ignored the applicable rules of engagement and special instructions.” This “willful misconduct directly caused the most egregious consequences imaginable, the deaths of four coalition soldiers and injury to eight others.”
In the reprimand, General Carlson wrote that Major Schmidt “acted shamefully on April 17, 2002, over Tarnak Farms, Afghanistan, exhibiting arrogance and a lack of flight discipline.” The reprimand points out that Major Schmidt’s flight lead warned him to “make sure it’s not ‘friendlies,’” and the Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft controller directed him to “stand by” and later to “hold fire.”
Canada THANK YOU. God bless you. Olease thank God for your orecious freedom.
The Bush/Cheney unnecessary war.
It was unnecessary to go after the people responsible for 9/11? 🖕 You can make that argument about the war in Iraq, not about the war in Afghanistan.
Another Bush mess. Just like his daddy.
@@JonathanH1253billions spent, thousands harmed and it STILL came down to a couple special operation units with help from The Company. My money is on the theory that those same operators could have done it without the regular Army (and Marines) in combat operations.
Then, the entire thing was completely wasted by leaving the way they did. That’s what REALLY moves it over the edge of WTF.
So yes, large scale action was completely unnecessary.
Not Afghanistan
@@c1ph3rpunk definitely. But the military contractors, the CIA and wall street couldn't have made a fortune "nation building" if they did that. Remember a few years after we invaded a reporter asked Bush about if they were any closer to finding Bin Laden and Bush got an attitude and said he doesn't even think about Bin Laden?
Thank You Canada in this Horrific war
The medic has incredible sense of humor
At 6:34 what optic is that?
The specific optic name escapes me but I usually see that used on a 240b or some other LMG, never seen it on a regular rifle.
Akog i think

Cia operatives were conducting missions in Afghanistan less than a week after 9/11.
I really really dont envy the medics😥 poor lady lost her husband while she was treating so many other dying soldiers… the pain on her face rly broke me…
As an American tax-paying citizen, I apologize on behalf of the United States of America for those four friendly-fire deaths, for whatever it's worth. My condolences to their families and friends... I only wish it was dealt with more harshly, particularly the guy who smirked his way through the court proceedings... he obviously had zero remorse for his actions.

I was in Baghdad and candihar for 3 years before 🇨🇦 arrived i am a Canadian soldier and the pm at the said we were not there and I called the to give the names SM MCLAREN AND THREE OTHERS INCUDING DEPUTY ON 101ST AIRBORNE
To deny the Canadian soldiers air support while under attack at the White school in my view is disgusting.
Soldiers win battles, politicians lose wars. 82nd ABN. 3 504 PIR OEF 03 OIF 04 RIP my brothers who gave it all
Did anyone fight along side of William JJ Cushley ? He passed in Afghan on Sept 3, 2006?
Salute to the Military Canadian Warriors and RCMP Officers. 🇵🇭🇨🇦
As it turns out, taking your helmet off is not a sign of respect, it's a sign of stupidity.
It wasn't really a war and we should have never been there in the first place
What was it then?
Why shouldn’t we have been rhere?
You know what's crazy? Today Russia and Ukraine lose more men every single week than U.S. lost in the entire 20 year Afghan war. That war is minuscule compared to what is happening now.
if i had to go back there and do it all over again.....sign me up...
Afganistan grave yard of many fallen empires
It seems it was more a case of securing the poppy fields than protecting anyone
*British army lost in Northern Ireland & Afghanistan*
*USA lost in Vietnam & Afghanistan*
Did they ,, ?...
Ya I’d be terrified of the USAF if I were a nato soldier on the ground I’d rather not ask for air support between tarnac and op Medusa a needless waste of Canadian blood
