+Peter Young It's a combination of all the boss battle themes. Because the world could have recovered from the meteor. Pokemon would still be living, even with time frozen. The world freezing over would lead to a new world. But this was the end of all. The end of everything. Every pokemon in the world would turn to stone. It was not a fight for the world. It was a fight for the existence of Pokemon, life, and the world itself. That's why it's so desperate and epic.
+myName2243 / 1f1n1ty Yeah, but the deal here is: Bittercold's restoring world to defaults so to say was an important plot point. It was elaborated on why one would want Bittercold to do it. On the other hand, everyone was against Dark Matter except those it was directly mind controlling. In other words, despite Bittercold erasing everything, people still could see hope in a new beginning. With Dark Matter, there would be no "new beginning".
+myName2243 / 1f1n1ty Thank you for saying this. Glad there are still people who see the Bittercold the way I do. Even if you have a deeper way of putting it.
IcyLucario Agreed my partner in blue rescue team was bulbasaur(i love bulbasaur) while i am eevee and in sky tower there was shuppet between us and he decides it is a smart move to use bullet seed that goes throught said shuppet defeating it and then he proceeds to kill me with remaining bullet seeds.
i tought pikachu thunder bolt but he never uses it on water pokemon but on ground ones when he does this this is what i say " gese have u ever played pokemanz scub
This battle... It hit home very hard. Watching everything get taken from you.. everything stolen and lost from a seemingly invincible force of hatred and malice. only to get a wake up slap by everyone, your friends, and most of all your partner. That as long as you can fight, NEVER give up. Even when everything seems lost... I have never been this motivated to fight since Dialga in EoT. This was a perfectly executed final boss, THIS is how a REAL game plays out! Especially when it forces you to rethink your morals in the real world...
It's weird. I've always played a game knowing that I would win, and that the good guys would prevail in the end. But this is the first game that made me think 'Will everything turn out okay? Will the good guys even win?'. And it was a Pokémon game, of all things. Kinds weird to think about.
Showing from a final boss soundtrack, it has tons of emotions tied into it. Showing the battle between good and evil, it does well, watching the footage of Dark Matter, it show that the titular characters dont give up and it’s touching. Mystery Dungeon may be bizzare, being sort of unconventional coming from Pokemon, but this song is amazing in all ways, and you could (possibly) learn some life lessons from it.
I love how the PMD final boss themes always portray the hope and will of the protagonists instead of the power and danger of the antagonist. It creates this "It doesn't matter how strong you are, we will defeat you!" feeling so well :3
A iconic song for a iconic game. this game is a deep treasure of mine I will always keep with me. Just played this in 2024 and I got to the final boss it gave me goosebumps it felt good to be back after so long being inactive
This song made my heart flutter when I realized the theme of this game: To never give up. That you are more than your level and stats, and that your strength was in your resolve. I fought this fight using wands to close the gap (Surround and Pounce respectively) each time it broke apart and blew us away. I had no items to harm the boss and didn't think of it as I struck with everything I had, holding only 3 revival seeds. I had defeated it feeling like I only had 1 chance or it was the beginning for me yet...Huh. Turns out you guys have died to it only to come back; welp I feel more satisfied knowing I didn't die at all I guess.
+LevelOneSwordsman That is the best kind of feeling to have against a final boss -- to feel genuinely threatened, yet rise to the challenge and emerge victorious on your first try.
Stratelier It was especially difficult on an emotional level since I did not come prepared nor did I grind. Despite what people question on its difficulty the mystery dungeon games always knew how to make "children" stand up to godlike beings and win. You kinda needed to rely on wands and items. It was what made you different than the enemies you fought. This was my best boss fight in a long time.
LevelOneSwordsman Same here, one of the BEST final boss battles in a while. I can't think of many that reach this particular combination of memorable epicness ("just right" challenge level + emotional investment + awesome music) -- my list includes Shovel Knight, Okami, and (of course) PMD Explorers but not much else.
@@cuttree6509 They seemingly have announced a few months ago a mystery dungeon that has nothing to do with Pokemon.. I think this was the end of an amazing saga
@@IIIIXtremeIIII The end of the most popular pokemon spin-off, lol i don't think that. It's just a troll for the pokemon mystery dungeon fans. This is one of, if not the greatest, final boss themes of all time. To go from complete, crushing defeat to hopeful determination and triumph, it’s powerful stuff. No matter how difficult the struggle against Dark Matter is, when you hear this song, you know that you’ll come out on top if you just keep trying and never give up!
mimicool boy it also exists in every damn indie game since the end of mystery dungeon. UT fandom, HKnight/SSong, BM Phantom Causatum, and even though not an indie game Kirby too.
Still completely blown away by this game from when I played it last year. PSMD still has the BEST OST of any pokémon game, mainline or spin-off. I feel completely out of breath listening to this, because it throws SO much intense energy and emotion at you. One of the most satisfying final boss fights ever, with an honestly really important lesson of love and acceptance and self-forgiveness in a game that emotionally fucking WRECKED me. A story that I will always carry with me in my heart.
Hope Nintendo one day considers porting/remaking/remastering this title for the Switch or it's next gen console. This game more than definitely deserves it.
Fun fact: i wanted to play Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon when i was 9 years old, and got Gates To The Infinity instead. At first i was like "What the hell❗❗" but then i played Pokemon Gates to the Infinity for a bit and i was like "Wow, this is great!", yeah, i could have gotten Super Mystery Dungeon but it's the love put in the gift that counts, and as i said, Gates to the Infinity is not bad as people makes it out to be. Also, one year later in 2016 after finishing Gates to the Infinity i actually got a copy of Super Mystery Dungeon, so i got 2 mystery dungeon games in a row, pretty epic, ngl.
The vocals at the end of Don't Give Up when you break dark matter a small bit is the best transition into a boss fight ever. Psmd is by far my favorite pmd game
Ugh reading what my partner had to say about not giving up before this battle and the start of the music had me in tears I had to take a minute to regain myself
I would've thought Dark Matter difficult if they didn't make it so when you restart the battle, he had the same health just before you fainted. So basically, there was no way to lose. Otherwise, it would've been a hard battle.
+Ethan Salinas Oh, wow, I'm surprised they did that. It makes sense with the "Don't give up" thing, if you think about it, though I still wish they didn't. I barely scraped by without dying on my first attempt, and it was a great feeling. That would have been diminished had I died and been brought back in the same part of the fight.
dude071297 It would've been okay if they made you restart at the dungeon point, like the traditional boss fights. I mean, yes, it's cool that it's in tune with the whole "don't give up" thing, but I was kind of disappointed that the final boss battle was really just for show.
Easily one of the best final boss themes in pokémon history and my second favorite final boss theme only outclassed by dialga's fight to the finish. This game may have flaws, but the soundtrack, story and the huge post-game makes up for all this. This song is no exception.
jeez, guess i now know why it was so easy for me to defeat Dark Matter (my team was the same as you), Algor at 30 and Terra at 31 + Dual Screens + both having 4-range moves + Pounce Wand to escape the big AoEs (though it was probably not even needed, Dark Matter's big AoEs were hitting me for 24 damage when i was evolved so yeah, it was quite weak), i quite literally just stood there sniping the guy and the battle was over on 8 turns or so, not a single reviver seed or oran berry used.
OH! You think because you're culmination of all negativity that you can break our spirit?!? Well I got news for you, buddy: We are the TrailBlazers and we don't give in to that "Anti-Spiral-Absolute-Despair" bullshit! JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE!?!
I actually love the gameplay in this boss fight. Unlike the other bosses where you'd just spam moves and hope for the best, this one utilized the tiles. But I'm bummed that the final boss is just Master Core but in Pokemon. They could've made Dark Matter a shapeshifter and take on formes of actual characters you've met on the way. Heck maybe even make it look like Xerneas or Mew in the final phase.
Holy moly this is amazing, I can’t imagine a better song to stand for hope. I can’t stop listening to this and feeling like such a positive person even in times where I wouldn’t feel that way.
since i played all the PMD games,u didn't have no problem,i didn't lose a single seed on this fight, but the new final boss mechanic was new to me,u didn't know your partner can automatically move into the safe spot on its own till I experiment that after the 6th turn XD
Yeah XD I've only played Time and Super, (I need to get the other two ;-;) Good god, with time on Dialga's Fight, I would instantly die to Roar of Time rip XD
PacNat Chavez explorers of sky was my first one before i had played blue rescue team,i never think about reviver seeds (that you can just get it from the walnauts shop,i think you gotta trade him 10 oran berries for it) i kept dieing XDDDD i sucked i kept dieing,i made it to primal dialga and got stuck so i start over, starting to discover more things in this game, now im thinking logically on the game and become queen of the game beating the game,i even start over for the 4th time just for the fun of it :D after i beat sky, red, and gates i derped hue super is the best game ever so far, especially the soundtrack and the plot it was all suddenly dark and hopeless that give it a suspenseful feeling O3O (btw yveltal is a pain,i didn't lose but i was on my last reviver seed after all the spamming going on)
Say what you may about Super Mystery Dunegon, but Dark Matter (I’m a hardcore Kirby fan btw) REALLY proved to be a huge threat. This thing turned *GOD HIMSELF* to stone.
None of the pokemon in the world can even stand a chance against dark matter in general, I mean do they even have a weapon similar to the love love stick?? Or anything that counters negativity too lol
The moment I realized the song Dark Matter Suite that was used in Dark Travel by JohnathanGD was a Pokémon remix, I realized I needed this. It feels like a remix compared to Dark Matter Suite, but that’s because I listened to that so many times
It's pretty special for me to have discovered this franchise, from the announcement of Rescue Team DX to now, through Red Rescue Team, Explorers of Sky, Gates to Infinity and Super, while being fairly ignorant to the Pokémon license in general. And this intense music gave me such a thrill that I even shed a tear when I heard it for the first time. For me, I considered Pokémon Mystery Dungeon to be a fairly uninteresting series, a spin-off from one of the most popular RPG licenses that I've always considered to be the most boring there is. Now, it has quickly become one of my favorite series of all time, where I want to mention Explorers of Sky, which will remain the work of fiction that made me cry the most in my entire life (although the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series is the only series that manages to force my respect and give me so much emotion to a video game). I consider this franchise to be an unforgettable series, the one that has lulled my imagination, the one that has made the most emotional impression on me, the one that contains my favourite soundtrack of any game ever, and no one can change my mind. I can only hope for a new game in this franchise. I can only hope that this franchise will always have something to say. Thank you Spike Chunsoft, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company.
Regardless of what your take is on PMD, you have to admit that all the music is GOD TEIR AND NOT A SINGLE BEING IN THIS UNIVERSE CAN CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE. This is actually the You Say Run of all of Pokémon, PERIOD. The music is always SUPER Pokémon, and is still diverse enough to where it fits into other game’s music styles (as an example, I thought this was from Kirby until a couple years ago). It’s so built up and epic and AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE IT SO MUCH AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
no there isn't, you're just all too much fans of explorers and so you see the time gear leitmotif everywhere just because you like it, this whole is an epic remix of the partner theme, there's absolutely no reason to have the time gear motif.
This Soundtrack is amazing at first you hear the cheers of all pokémon that encourage you to move on, telling you not to give up while also hearing bits and pieces of partner's theme. I actually think that this soundtrack is the soundtrack of all pokémon around globe also compared to the first phase this ost is made from positive melodies(bad english i know). I must say they really delivered with this game.
As a final battle theme.. It's really good. Especially near the end, with the high notes from partner's theme. I always feel the tears trying to break through
Dark Matter Ko'd my partner Snivy It was just me as Fenniken, no revive seeds. *Dark Matter is charging for an attack* *Uses Flamethrower, Critical hit!* I won...
I love the fact you CAN die to them, but you can keep coming back and their health bar will be the same as when you lost...it truly gives you the feeling that as long as you are determined, you CAN win this Wish I knew it first playthrough though, haha...
It never really hit me how crazy emotional this song could sound, i was so focused on staying alive the whole time that i didn't realize just how awesome this song was. All i know is that i can just imagine my little Reba (fennekin) giving everything she had to stop this madness while her best friend repeatedly charged in (male pikachu). though i do wish i could have fought as a fully evolved pokemon during this so it would have more density to how strong this guy was, it would also have shown my character having grown up. I used this game to develop a backstory for my female fennekin who eventually becomes a well renown Delphox over her trials and wisdom. while Her matured Partner was her protector. I love drawing these two together.
Chances are, this Dark Matter is probably one of the many dark matters that probably exist in the pmd universe After all, "Void exists in all dimensions"
as a pmd and kirby fan, I approve this joke. seriously, it's pretty sure that bittercold is another form of dark matter (I really feel like if we're doing theories about dark matter from kirby)
Lyrics, written by myself. Let's take a look at this fight. It began long ago In a time that's long gone. But even now It goes on And it comes to a close And even as the end is coming now We are not lying down Yet; We cannot stop now. You say we're weak But we're stronger than you. You have the incorrect point of view. You think we're lost With nothing to fight for Cause our loved ones have been turned to stone. But if that is true, We have nothing to lose! And so we will fight until the end. But even that Is lie We will fight For the lives Of those that are lost and for each other. We are not yet ready to lose. We will fight on until this battle's through. For we still have a hope Of our whole world restored And of it we will not let go! I now accept you here All of you just as you are. For you are a natural part of every person's hurt and hating heart. But even so, we won't let you end our world! And so we'll fight on until you are finished and we will Stand tall till the end! Stand!
Just have a bubble machine like Piplup (bubble beam, bubble) and long distance fighting makes this easy. Add ice beam to the mix, and you have Piplup the projectile machine.
+DDRPenguins72 Fenekin can do that without any TMs even- your starting moveset includes ember and psybeam. Once you finally evolve in the postgame, I threw shadow ball on top of it, and suddenly *beast*.
I had a pretty good combination of myself as Fennekin and my partner as a Mudkip, because that's who my friend chose :3 Fennekin is on freaking *FIRE* with projectiles Flamethrower and Psybeam (I soon replaced Scratch with Shadow Ball in the postgame, and HOE my LlamaGod,) plus the awesome special attack, and if you wanted, you could throw in an extra Attract right there. I kept Scratch so if I faced a Houndoor or Houndoom with Flash Fire or something, I could still take a swing at it. Mudkip's moveset consisted of four different types- Ice, Water, Rock, and Ground. Despite it being a special move and Mudkip is a physical attacker, Ice Beam is dope and froze enemies a lot when I used it, even though it's only about a 10% chance that it will freeze the foe. Water Gun was probably the best Water type move I would be getting before the postgame (or maybe I just didn't train enough.) Mud Bomb and Rock Throw were some good physical moves I had, so I had a total of seven types of moves at my disposal, so a Dark Matter type change wouldn't do anything special.
Okay, for everyone who is confused why people are talking about three things at once... Okay so huge context. Dark Matter is the main antagonist of Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. It is the manifestation of all negative energy in each Pokemon. Dark Matter takes a spherical form with an 'eye'-like core, similar to Dark Matter from Kirby, which is one of the main antagonists from that series, which is a manifestation of negative energy (not like electrons, just bad energy). Dark Matter from Kirby and Dark Matter from Pokemon are similar, yet different, especially because they are both from Nintendo games. Dark Matter's (the one from Pokemon) theme was then remixed by Onefin (known then as 1f1n1ty) as well as a bunch of more songs from Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. This huge remix was put in Newgrounds. JonathanGD then saw this and made a Geometry Dash map with the song, the Insane Demon 'Dark Travel.' This song has been used in maps like 'PRISM' by Darwin, 'INNARDS' by Kaito, and the official remake of Dark Travel 'Dark Odyssey' by JonathanGD. This isn't the first time something like this happened in GD. 'The Lost Existence' by JonathanGD and 'The hidden land' by BlueLite also uses Pokemon Mystery Dungeon songs, the latter being the theme of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.
DaMan56100 “yours” as in the collective you. you and your partner. i was more trying to say that it’s not dark matter’s theme. but if you (the collective you, you and him) really want to split hairs, yes. it’s not “your” theme.
The best pokemon boss, it truly makes us feel like our heros are struggling. Between the fact you spend half the fight dodging, the fact it does ridiculous damage, the fact it towers over you and turned freaking GOD to stone, that it pushes you way back, like if you were fighting a deadly blizzard... everything in this boss makes us feel like our protagonists are having a hard time even remotely damaging the thing. But then, it cracks, and it keeps on cracking more. Until lt is finally shattered. This monster was finally beaten by your character staying determined despite the odds being ridiculously low Truly beautiful
All right, I'll say this: No matter how you feel about a PMD game quality-wise, it's pretty much universally accepted that the soundtrack is amazing.
Yep
Quality wise? Pmd is more fun than main line games lol

I finished it with a normal one, my partner was melee so no matter what I did it always fainted early in the fight.
I did the whole boss with alliance attacks.
I always spam those on bosses
So, you did a Hold Up followed by an All-Out Attack.
Ok this seriously sent chills up my spine the ENTIRE BOSS BATTLE. This is easily top 5 best boss themes I've ever heard.
+myName2243 / 1f1n1ty But in Gates to Infinity, they say that the Bittercold would create a new world, I think...?
+myName2243 / 1f1n1ty Yeah, but the deal here is: Bittercold's restoring world to defaults so to say was an important plot point. It was elaborated on why one would want Bittercold to do it. On the other hand, everyone was against Dark Matter except those it was directly mind controlling.
In other words, despite Bittercold erasing everything, people still could see hope in a new beginning. With Dark Matter, there would be no "new beginning".
+myName2243 / 1f1n1ty Well it may be true, but at the end of the day, does the dream of death ever cone true?
+myName2243 / 1f1n1ty Thank you for saying this. Glad there are still people who see the Bittercold the way I do. Even if you have a deeper way of putting it.
I love this game to death, but my partner will always be an idiot in dungeons.
The partner's Ai in super is a hellva lot smarter compared to the older partners though.

Even now in my mid to late 40s (I'm 46) this game still gets to me even yet.
i know right? even if super mystery dungeon doesn't has the best final boss in the pokemon series, it is probably the most underrated pokemon game :]
I know right ?
That and M&L PiT are the only games that made me feel that way
watching everything getting taken away from you, leaving you with nothing but your hope and faith left. that was a really strong punch
Oh cool, I wasn't the only one in this boat.
For me that went to Pokepark 2, but that was also a Pokemon spinoff lmao (still an incredible game though)
1:18 is literally the best part of this whole song in my opinion. It's just so well executed with the song.

The opening 4 seconds are my favorite.

I love how the PMD final boss themes always portray the hope and will of the protagonists instead of the power and danger of the antagonist.
It creates this "It doesn't matter how strong you are, we will defeat you!" feeling so well :3
well this one is portraying both
Agree 😤
A iconic song for a iconic game.
this game is a deep treasure of mine I will always keep with me.
Just played this in 2024 and I got to the final boss it gave me goosebumps it felt good to be back after so long being inactive
When it started up, I kid you not screamed out "YEAH!" I got so pumped up!
And thus began my love for instrumentals. Still remember this song after 8 years.
LevelOneSwordsman
Same here, one of the BEST final boss battles in a while. I can't think of many that reach this particular combination of memorable epicness ("just right" challenge level + emotional investment + awesome music) -- my list includes Shovel Knight, Okami, and (of course) PMD Explorers but not much else.
***** Moves that hit the entire room have ALWAYS been broken. But at least Roar of Time requires a recharge turn!
20 REVIVER SEEDS, not a single one used
Man they really should let Chunsoft work on the next main series. I mean srsly, the story, the music, EVERYTHING about PMD series is awesome.

I'd argue GTI is on par personally
Came back to listen to this track three years later.
Definitely not disappointed by how amazing it sounds.

God you aren't kidding. this may be a game. But DAMN does it have very REAL effects and very REAL moralities.
Super PMD is underrated, I wish more ppl recognize this game more than PMD EOS
YES!
I’ve played both and I genuinely like Super more than EOS. theyre both really great games, I just prefer Super
I’m… hmmm… I honestly might love both equally. I do agree that Super is criminally underrated though!
Ehh, Super had so much worse though, but I haven't played EoS in a while and am sure same applies there
I was gonna say this is the perfect difficulty for the final boss, until I learned I can die over and over with practically no penalty.
+Ethan Salinas perfect? i thought it was way too easy...
I mean, yes, it's cool that it's in tune with the whole "don't give up" thing, but I was kind of disappointed that the final boss battle was really just for show.
am i the only one who takes likes 20 reviver seeds just in case something happens
Easily one of the best final boss themes in pokémon history and my second favorite final boss theme only outclassed by dialga's fight to the finish. This game may have flaws, but the soundtrack, story and the huge post-game makes up for all this. This song is no exception.
O-O Around 1:06 you can hear the main theme.
That's the partner's theme actually
Hear this: an under-leveled Oshawott and Chikorita, level 18 at the time, somehow beat Dark Matter.

jeez, guess i now know why it was so easy for me to defeat Dark Matter (my team was the same as you), Algor at 30 and Terra at 31 + Dual Screens + both having 4-range moves + Pounce Wand to escape the big AoEs (though it was probably not even needed, Dark Matter's big AoEs were hitting me for 24 damage when i was evolved so yeah, it was quite weak), i quite literally just stood there sniping the guy and the battle was over on 8 turns or so, not a single reviver seed or oran berry used.

Heck maybe even make it look like Xerneas or Mew in the final phase.

since i played all the PMD games,u didn't have no problem,i didn't lose a single seed on this fight, but the new final boss mechanic was new to me,u didn't know your partner can automatically move into the safe spot on its own till I experiment that after the 6th turn XD

Ah yes, an entire remix, that's a nice touch.
Everytime I see Dark Matter...I think of Kirby.
If it where possible, this would be the only reason i would bring the Stockpile set
I keep thinking that dark matter got sick of Kirby's shit and moved onto pokemon
It's as though Dark Matter came from Kirby's world into the Pokémon world. Heh, imagine that!

Second dark matter battle = 100% EPIC.
Don t cry, it s just, a memory of a great adventure
I love how no matter what game past explorers you listen to the soundtrack, there is always hints of Primal Dialga scattered into it.
no there isn't, you're just all too much fans of explorers and so you see the time gear leitmotif everywhere just because you like it, this whole is an epic remix of the partner theme, there's absolutely no reason to have the time gear motif.
This is how you make punching a sphere till it breaks interesting!
As a final battle theme.. It's really good. Especially near the end, with the high notes from partner's theme. I always feel the tears trying to break through
No idea why this song gives off Kirby vibes
Still is one of the best freaking final boss themes out there though
The best part about this game was that you could put close the 3DS/Put it into sleep mode and still listen to the OST.
When you realize that theme isn’t yours, it’s your *partners…*
My jaw dropped when I noticed it, makes the ending even sadder.
I love how this is a straight up remix of your partner’s theme. It’s as if, you, the player, aren’t even the main character. Your partner is.
it makes sense considering the partner disappears instead of the main character for this game

TFW you realize Partner's theme is mixed into this. Man, this game.
You don't fight dark matter.
Dark matter fight your partner.
Lyrics, written by myself.
Let's take a look at this fight.
It began long ago
In a time that's long gone.
But even now
It goes on
And it comes to a close
And even as the end is coming now
We are not lying down
Yet; We cannot stop now.
You say we're weak
But we're stronger than you.
You have the incorrect point of view.
You think we're lost
With nothing to fight for
Cause our loved ones have been turned to stone.
But if that is true,
We have nothing to lose!
And so we will fight until the end.
But even that
Is lie
We will fight
For the lives
Of those that are lost and for each other.
We are not yet ready to lose.
We will fight on until this battle's through.
For we still have a hope
Of our whole world restored
And of it we will not let go!
I now accept you here
All of you just as you are.
For you are a natural part of every person's hurt and hating heart.
But even so, we won't let you end our world!
And so we'll fight on until you are finished and we will
Stand tall till the end!
Stand!
That's deep. *Claps*
Wow. There’s nothing left to say. You have beyond earned my rare like. Well done.
If someone could do a lyric cover of this track with this that would be great.
If only there was the moment where the lirycs play because ei'm too dumb to find it well enough. 😭
I had Fennikin as myself and Piplup as the partner and I didn't use a single reviver it's stupidly easy
fennekin and piplup was a great combo for me. I only fainted once, and my partner fainted once!
Best theme on earth
This song is so good it was stuck in my head before I knew this game existed
JonathanGD also made an epic remake to it, called Dark Odyssey. Both absolutely phenomenal levels.

This monster was finally beaten by your character staying determined despite the odds being ridiculously low
