Hpi Baja 5b REPAIR - What BROKE?? It Wasn’t What I Thought!! SURPRISING REPAIR!! Unlikely BREAKAGE!!

- In this video I diagnose and repair my Hpi Baja 5b gas powered 1/5 scale buggy. I thought that I had burnt up the clutch in my previous running video with the machine. Once I dug into it I determined that wasn’t the case. I was actually pretty surprised by what actually broke. I do a short running video near the end testing out my repair as well.

Funny how stock rovan and km clutch bells are much better quality and finish than the genuine Hpi one (they are a single piece compared to the latter that are 2 pieces soldered together) lmao

The red clutch spring ia either 8k or a DDM 9500k spring. Thats a unique part fail ill say. Ive never seen the actual clutch bell split in 2 like that lol. Yea your not going to find New HPI stock clutch bells or majority of genuine new HPI baja stock parts anywhere. They have been out of the baja game almost a decade its crazy. King motor and Rovan parts and RTRs are decent quality nowadays from the Chinese. I love all my rovans. I mean obviously its no Rcmax parts or Engines thats on a whole diffrent level of nasty nasty Bajas and thats who i mainly work with but i still enjoy bashong my Rovans! I could of sworn I purchased some 10,000rpm clutches a few years back? You might be right though. I do know I didn’t get those clutches from DDM though. Thank you for the advice! You’re right though i wasn’t expecting the clutch bell to have broken. Especially the way the thing failed. The clutch was still engaging off and on for a few minutes before it actually lost all drive to the wheels. It must of been partially broken and just holding on by a thread or something. Not sure 🤔
Same thing happened to my cluch got it fixed still had to buy a new one

@@RCKnockout what would be a more powerful engine for my baja I have a 26cc in it now I would like to upgrade 2 a 32 or 36 what's your suggestion
@@marklloyd3513 A 32cc or 36cc definitely should be more powerful than a stock engine I would think 🤔
I have one like brand new with tons of upgrades. I think I got it in 2004 or 2005. Need to sell it so someone can enjoy it.

Iv never striped out a plastic baja gear . And thatcau 9000 spring being that it's red. And clutch bell is not a hpi it's part the the motor .
I have some issues with my rovan Baja which is basically the exact same thing just off brand from hpi and I went to run it and it would just start taking off its own so I checked it out and when I hit the gas it started smoking from the clutch any idea what’s wrong with it?
It takes off on its own without you pulling the trigger?? Maybe something wedged between the clutch shoes?? Does it still move when you hit the throttle??
@@RCKnockout it moves when I hit the throttle as usual but when I brake it’s brakes then shuts right off
@@slenderzombie1611 oh..sometimes under hard braking they can shut off…you could turn the idle up a bit..And did you say it was smoking though?

What size shocks go on the rear of these i gotta get new ones and cant find the size to buy
